I think this has a lot of potential. Got a really cool vibe from the trailer.
As for Aurora having a British accent, isn't Sleeping Beauty (the Disney version, anyway) supposed to take place in Great Britain? Or is it France? Either way, the British accent is typically used in movies to represent a faraway, other world.

After watching the trailer I must say I feel like the art direction is compleeeetely off... magical tiny elves and fantasy characters? I would have gone full out on the real life translation of the Eyvind Earle look myself. Not impressed by the look and the angle of the story has me worried...

Heck, they even didn't get Aurora's dress right when she sleeps and pricks her finger.
…That’s not good…..

Those thorns look like they were produced on a TV budget.

Elle in Wonderland....o no wait
And Disney, whats up with those odd looking mermaid-ish/minimoy elves

The only thing that makes me curious is how the famous spindle scene will turn out...

They aren't trying to literally just remake the animated film in live action, that would be dumb. Of course things are going to be different.

It looks better than I thought it would. And it's clear the plot isn't the same as 'Sleeping Beauty'.

Absolutely hate the trailer, especially Elle Fannings awful English accent! (nobody in the U.K. speaks like that I can assure you

)
I also agree with the others that dislike the art directions, it looks like a live action Tinker Bell movie, and the CG of the thorns surrounding the castle just do not appeal to me, at all.
However, I do think Angelina's portrayal of the role is quite fitting. She's seemed to have captured Maleficence's tone and persona. I do however think Maleficent should have more of a green tone to her skin.
Over all I am underwhelmed, Not anticipating this film at all.

... Is it sad that I'm hoping that this crashes and burns?
I do not want the original Maleficent being forgotten, and replaced by Angelina Jolie...
Think what you will. I am not happy. Not in the slightest. And it boils me that they advertise the movie like it's a prequel to the original Disney tale, when it's anything but.

I really love the look of the trailer. The thorns (at least to me) look amazing, and Angelina's portrayal of Maleficent seems very in line with the original film.
Now, I will admit to probably being this film's biggest defender, despite all of the drawbacks that it already has. We know 100% for a fact that the story has been changed form the original. I don't mind this at all. We have the original film, and it's a classic that has already stood the test of time and will be around forever. A new take on the story with different plot elements is just fine by me. The character of Maleficent is by far my favorite thing about the original, so as long as her persona is kept in tact, I'll be satisfied. As far as I can tell, that is absolutely the case. Angelina has the aura and the laugh down, and everything we've seen so far indicates that she understands what makes the character great.
Would it be cool to get a movie that lines up perfectly with the original, sure, but that is not what we're getting. We can't change what the film is going to be, so why waste time complaining about things we don't like, and appreciating the things about it that are good? I'm a huge Maleficent fan, so I'm just grateful that a film like this was even considered, let alone being marketed as Disney's summer tent pole!

Yeah, at first I thought that Oz: The Great and Powerful was going to be an intolerable mess, but when I saw the movie it was good, not great, but not bad either. The teaser is really good especially when Jolie spoke and that laugh at the end was spot on. I'm giving this movie a chance, even if the story is weird beyond belief.

Maleficent was already great as she was. She didn't need a movie where she's painted as the misunderstood black sheep of the family.
They're advertising the movie like it's a prequel, when it's not.

Both Kings have German names and it is full of German symbolism, so for me it will always take place in Germany.

Yeah this is going to be a HUGE misfire. An overabundance of visual effects and a silly approach.
Not looking forward to this at all. The Inception music wasn't helping either. Can we ban that already?!?!?!

Well it IS both a prequel and remake(re-imagining) since the story starts off way before Aurora's birth and then goes through a fractured version of the fairy tale's events.
Personally, I'm on the "
I'll wait before condemning or praising it" wagon. I think she looks and sounds stunning as Mal, but what I've heard about the originally proposed plot sounds stupid. I'm hoping this turns out good, but I'm not holding my breath for it either.

When I first heard about this project, I groaned. "Maleficent given a sympathetic back-story!? NO! She's THE MISTRESS OF ALL EVIL! She has no redeeming qualities! She openly and CHEERFULLY calls upon the POWERS OF HELL in the film," I said to myself.
The leaked images, the poster and, now, the trailer have done little in the way of assuaging me of my wariness... I consider Sleeping Beauty to be one of my all-time favorite animated films. But one thing has actually given me a shred of hope for this film: that fact that it was co-written by Paul Dini.
Paul Dini. The best writer of Batman stories in modern history. Especially when it comes to villains like Mr. Freeze, The Joker and The Riddler. This is the man who MADE Mr. Freeze the towering, utterly tragic and heartbreaking figure he was in the Animated Series. "Think of it, Batman: to never again walk on a summer's day, or to feel a hot wind in your face... To never again know the touch of a warm hand. Oh, yes... I'd kill for that..."
Gah! If Dini is able to transform Maleficent into such a figure, I might just see this film. And if he brings any of the twisted humor he usually supplies the Joker with (Seriously, just read the issue of Detective Comics titled Slayride) then maybe, just maybe, this film won't totally suck balls.

There was a user on IMDB who had seen a screening of Maleficent and said that it was better than he expected (by saying that it was good) and that it differs from the leaked script in good amount of places, also he confirmed that there is a good number of dark humor in the movie. So Paul Dini's revisions must've helped.
