A christmas themed treasures/legacy DVD would be awesome. I'd love to see the original From All of Us again in addition to the Peter Pan themed Christmas show.

I bought the dvd today, watched a few scenes and I have to say the restauration is almost perfect. It's just so good. :)

Does this appear to be one of the best, if not the best, restorations?

I got my DVD @ Target. I'll give my impressions April 8th or 9th. I'm saving it to watch on Easter Sunday.

(Did anyone try to get the dvd @ Best Buy and see if they'd let you use a reward zone certificate? I was going to originally, but I didn't want to risk being told "you can't use the certificate for new releases". )

In relation to the release of the DVD and the interview on here with Margaret Kerry, I did get to meet her last year at San Diego CC. She was charming and delightful to chat with, and though she was often busy, she spent at least half an hour talking with me about the original movie, her relation with people at the studios and showed me many of the pictures she had with her that are featured in the interview. Definitely one of the highlights of being there, and admitedly she was only listed to attend at the last moment, she wasn't originally scheduled in the brochures afair. My girlfriend's sister-in-law also got a big kick out of the signed Tinkerbell picture we got for her as she's a Tinker-freak :)

Just got mine from Best Buy, along with "The Rescuers Down Under" and a Captain Hook action figure, arr!

I haven't checked it out yet, but the DVD condom sure is shiny.

The jungle book restauration is shaping up nicely too I think. On the dvd, before peter pan menu starts they show a little clip promoting the jungle book platinum edition and compare it to the earlier edition. I like it. Wish they could have released it along with peter pan. Now we have to wait so long again! :)

I got mine from Best Buy too, and I also picked the Captain Hook action figure. The slip-cover really is shiny, it makes the cover art look really nice - I like it! I'm about to go watch the film now -- eeeeeeh, I'm excited!

I really don't believe anyone will be disappointed by the video quality and the restauration displayed here, unlike some other platinum editions ahum. All around amazing.

Looking forward to jungle book platinum dvd already! Is there a thread for the jungle book dvd already or too soon?

This DVD is literally flying off the shelves at Target. I got one of the last 5 they had on display, and my checkout lady told me almost everybody she's checked out has bought it.

I can't wait to get home from work tonight to watch it!

Is it me, or is this film looking worse and worse.... Check out how the red of Hook's jacket and the red of Tinkerbell's lips (in the shot where she is glowing red and angry) was once bright and saturated and is now rather dark and muddy.

I think the 2007 version is the best! That could just be me though......

Everything seems warmer, I think, and nice and bright.

At least the really nice transfer and overall strength of the movie makes up for the disappointing special features. "The Peter Pan That Almost Was" is interesting, though, and certainly worth watching. And the review's description of the virtual flight as using a Peter Pan voice akin to "the poor man's Bobby Driscoll" is spot on. I wonder why they couldn't get whoever voiced Peter in "Return to Neverland", I felt he did a pretty good job. Not as though the virtual flight has much purpose, but it's interesting to like watch once...and then never again...

Is the Peter Pan II trailer different from the old 2002 version? If it is different, can anyone please please post?? Thanks in advance to anyone who can!

I had the same question as well.
I think it is just a re-release of the movie as they did with the sequel for Lady and the Tramp. They will probably pour over the same bonus features and add a stupid game lol.

Now back to the Peter Pan DVD: :D

I honestly think the 2002 release had better colors IMHO. sure the transfer now looks more natural but it lose's it's glow to me. It just seems so plan now. I feel we should have gotten this remaster for Beauty and the Beast, and switch BATB's with this one lol. I still like it though. I will be holding onto my Single Disc copy still. :)

Yes, the Bonus Features did indeed stink lol. They were to short and the Exclusive Bonus DVD Disc from Walmart could have easily been poured over plus added more to make this a worth WILD Platinum Edition IMO.
I am still happy with my purchase though. :)

Now the high light of the DVD to me is Paige O'Hara's Music Video and Song "Never Land" She did an amazing job on it! Sure she could have held a few notes a little bit longer but her voice is just to amazing for words! I am also glad I have a Paige O'Hara Music Video to add to my collection! :D

In all, even though this was a very poor Platinum Edition, I am still happy with it. 8)

Maybe side-by-side is better...

Maybe a side-by-side comparison is better. Here are the 1991 Laserdisc and 2007 SE DVD compared side-by-side.

Am I blind, or is the gain in sharpness not worth all the drastic and disasterous color results?

<img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f112/ ... 1.jpg"><BR>
<img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f112/ ... 2.jpg"><BR>

<img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f112/ ... 4.jpg"><BR>

How can anyone think the 2007 DVD is the best? And what is up with Disney putting out the commercials that lie showing an "unrestored" image to the left that is doctored?!

Posted: Tue Mar 06, 2007 1:57 pm
by TheNikki
Well I think it's a beautiful restoration. I honestly think this is the best one yet regardless of the sidebyside caps posted. That's just me though.

I think Disney did a wonderful job with this.

I wholeheartedly agree with TheNikki. Maybe you have to see it in motion to fully appreciate it.
