This is nothing new you guys. Movie studios have used this same trick on other formats. Disney used to do it for laser discs, where movies would sometimes come out on that format about a month before it came to VHS. Other studios used it on DVD, such as Warner Bros, which released The Matrix to DVD 3 month before the VHS came out.

Honestly, Disney stands to make a lot of money from this because the truth is that there are people who either missed the last release or want the new version bad enough to buy a Blu-Ray player for it. I bought my player last fall the same day that Sleeping Beauty came out. I was personally waiting for the classics to start being released before I got an HD player. I don't speak for everybody, but this tactic does work for some people.

Disney's strategy of also including the film on DVD with the Blu-Ray has also been successful and if you haven't noticed, other studios have started doing it as well (Marley and Me). I'm not one of those freaky Blu-Ray obsessed people and I see room for both formats to exist, but I don't think Disney is doing anything terrible by releasing Snow White on Blu-Ray seven weeks before the DVD.

By the way, does anybody think that the seven weeks were chosen so that they would have a week for each dwarf?... Just kidding.

Maybe I just won't buy it at all then... it was never a movie I was wild about in the first place.

I think that almost-two-month-gap is a horrible idea. Luckily I have a Blu-ray player, but I don't plan on upgrading from my first Platinum release of it. It just sucks for those who don't have Blu-ray players and want to buy SW.

Like I've told some people already, I'm 12 films away from completing my Disney collection. I'm not gonna spend all that money and time again recollecting something I just finished. The only films I plan on upgrading to Blu-ray are the fab 4 and a few more 90's films.

I'll think about recollecting everything when the time comes for the next big thing after Blu-ray.

EDIT: This was my 1,800th post! Woo!!! :pink: :D

some of the people on this board are so childish...
do you honestly think that you coming to a message board and saying
"well i don't like that so i just won't buy it" is going to hurt Disney ?
if you don't buy it there are 10 more people that will

they are releasing it WITH a copy of the DVD... so if you want the DVD, either buy the combo pack or wait a few months and stop complaining.

The Blu/DVD combo just comes with Disc 1 of the Platinum DVD not both discs, the main attraction is mainly the 2nd disc's bonus and (rarely) Disc 1 (pop up facts/commentaries)

Why doesn't Disney just offer the complete dvd version (including the second disc of bonus features) with the Blu-Ray version instead of including only the first disc of the dvd? That way they would satisfy everyone's needs with one release, they would encourage sales of Blu-Ray discs and players, and they would make more money for the company at the same time. They could still offer the standard dvd version (without Blu-Ray) at a later date and at a lower cost.
...but why? Then they would be basically giving their DVD away for free, and it would increase the cost of the Blu Ray. I don't even want the standard DVD in my Blu Ray now if it's affecting the price of the standard Blu Ray thankfully it isn't.

Also other companys have been diong this as well...they are a business, they are trying to push a new format if you don't want to adapt then wait. I remember when Nintendo delayed Twlight Princess for Gamecube a whole YEAR becuase they wanted to push it with their Wii console? Was it fair? Probably not, but hey it's business.

But you will all be able to get the 2-disc DVD eventually. Some of you are acting like they are skipping a DVD release all together and that is not the case. I can see why you are upset, but as I've pointed out, this is nothing new. Most studios did the same thing to entice consumers to switch to DVD. While it primarily happened with recent blockbuster films, a timeless classic like Snow White released on Blu-Ray 7 weeks earlier than the DVD will be enough to get some people to upgrade.

Also, what many of you don't realize is that your average consumer of Disney movies doesn't care about bonus features, so all of those parents shopping with kids who want to watch Snow White won't mind picking up a Blu-Ray/DVD combo so their kids can watch the movie now versus 7 weeks later, even if they don't have a Blu-Ray player yet.

I'm not being childish, I'm being practical. I was considering buying the DVD. Buying a Blu-Ray player is not something I can afford right now. I'm like, practically right out of college, soon to be living on my own with no concrete job lined up. Likewise, I'm not going to buy the Blu-Ray combo pack because I don't see why I should have to just to get the DVD. If ten more people will buy it, good for them, that's good business. If not, then it's bad business. I just won't be one of them either way.

I think it's hilarious that people are complaining about the DVD not being available until seven weeks after the Blu-Ray. It's been largely unavailable for 7 years now, what's another few weeks? :P Besides, the title will be on shelves for a good couple years (and it's not like every person who buys it will buy it the day/week it streets) before Disney vaults it again, and some are making it sound like the seven-week delay is one of the biggest injustices that Disney has done. All part of the "I want it now!" mentality.

What does Disney think? That people who weren't willing to buy BD's all of a sudden will rush out and buy it, because they can't wait another month to get the DVD? They could wait for 8 years for the film to come back from 'the vault', yet they are too impatient to wait untill November 24th?

So many regular people are unaware of the fact that dvd's can be played on Blu-ray players but not the other way around.
But the people think, "Hey, if this Blu-ray Snowwhite is the only thing available, it must work on my dvd player, right"? Why else are there no dvd's available? That's what will happen.
Really? You mean you think thre are people who are THAT mindblowingly stupid? :D

I think it is HILARIOUS that DISNEY is doing this.... BUT I think I would work better with a release like HSM3 or BOLT because the "Combo packs" of those movies had ALL the special features that the DVD release had.... (BLU-RAY FAN BTW!)

Well, I once saw a woman screaming at the service desk in Toy's R Us because a Final Fantasy game (for Playstation) wouldn't play in her son's Nintendo Wii, so yeah, I would say there are quite a few morons out there who don't know the difference between Blu-Ray and DVD. That's why the first year of Blu-Ray, they all had stickers on them mentioning that they only play in Blu-Ray players and PS3s.

Disney released the video of "Snow White" about 7 weeks after the DVD during the first digital release. I really don't find it surprising. I like Disney's plan to get people on Blu-ray though. Of course, this may just be a biased opinion since I'm on Blu-ray. :D Haha.

Me too, people are bitching about not getting the second DVD disc 7 weeks later, but not that fact that the film was never put into stores at all since January 2002?

Be glad it's showing up at all people! Not to mention as a reasonably priced combo package (the $40 SRP is BS and I'm sure same day purchases at most retailers will be alot lower like the previous $30 CND deals Future Shop had for Sleeping Beauty and Pinocchio).

Disney didn't always release 2 Platinum titles a year, or put Lady in the Tramp out in March. To be angered by another minor change in the line's release schedule is ridiculous. Especially when this tactic has been done before with Laserdisc/VHS and VHS/DVD releases.

Just in case I'm being lumped into that "Complainers" group (which I might be since I seem to have started it a bit?)

I am not complaining. I just simply feel it's a bit silly to to make one group wait longer over another group, both groups (BD Buyers and DVD Buyers) have been waiting equally long and to say "oh yeah you dvd buyers will need to wait longer, we're going to let BD come out first" is rather frustrating. Could I buy the Bluray/DVD combo? Yes, if I was willing to buy something that's half useless and missing the second half of what I want  there's real logic.

Now if I was complaining I'd make sure you knew it by ranting for more than two posts and I'd also make ridiculous statements and throw out a frew conspiracy theories as well to boot :P

As for the extra long wait, I'm used to waiting. I've been reading the Wheel of Time series for years now and we (the fans of the books) have had to wait year(s) for each book. Now that the final book is coming out this Nov. we find out it's being split into three volumes and the last volume won't be until 2011. Do I think it's silly to make people wait that long? Yes. But I'll stick it out.

Just like I will stick it out for Snow White those extra weeks regardless of how I feel about the extra wait.
