But how do you know it won't be part of a franchise? That's right, you don't.
We have a vague description about it taking place on an island in the south pacific. For all we know it's a fairytale/folklore type of story with a princess. We know absolutely nothing. Hell, it could even be shelved or postponed. *cough* King of the Elves *cough*.
Why are you asking these specific, demanding question about a movie we know absolutely nothing about?

So your saying I have no right in asking questions about R&J's film? And why was King of the Elves shelved? Could it be that film had no "Franchise connections"?

I'm not saying you can't ask questions. It's just that you're already assuming that it's not apart of any of Disney's established merchandise franchises. You can't know that yet, because we don't know what it is. Didn't I already say this? I feel like I'm repeating myself here.
But seriously, ask questions all you want. Just not assume the movie to be something we can't possibly know it is or isn't.
I'd be much more interested in speculation about what it actually could be. Maybe some research into south Pacific Island history.
Or rather, this mysterious new animation it's going to employ.

I would really like to see them explore South Pacific myths and legends, with all the gods and guardians and whatnot. I posted some of Brittney Lee's Hawaiian gods a number of pages back, and even if we never saw those designs, those characters would be awesome to see in a Disney film

You just mentioned many reasons why R&J's film is so appealing. This film a'int gonna be like a typical Disney film, expecially with the "New Animation" there doing.

I Agree.

In 2011-2012, I was called back again by Ron Clements and John Musker to design some development ideas for the next story to replace the last one I can not talk about. Since this is the film they are currently developing, I once again can not say what it is until the movie starts production and hits the official press releases. Don't ya just hate that! But hey, you never want to burn bridges by breaking contractual promises. Trust goes a long way - especially if you want to freelance out of the building!!! And yes, this is a small world and everything you do does get around. Play nice and honest if you want a lasting career in animation.
I just love Paul Gauguin. Don't you?
I paint using Corel Painter and rarely use a pencil anymore.

So much for the hand-drawn look.
If it looks just like ordinary CG, then what's the point of making it a hybrid in the first place?

That is so unfair and a stupid move!

That was my thought.
I'm thinking this project might be make-or-break for Musker & Clements. Since TP flopped and TP&TF didn't meet the studio's expectations, they're probably giving them one chance to prove themselves on the "superior" medium. If even the CG film they make fails to make back a substantial profit, they'll probably be through. Thankfully, they're old enough at this point that it won't hurt them (financially, at least, I hope).

Since the movie doesn't open until 2015 or 2016, isn't it way too early to know what the film will look exactly like when animation production begins?

It clearly won't open in 2015, with 2 Pixar films "Inside Out" in June & "Finding Dory" In November. 2016 it should be.

I was thinking about that too.
Finding Dory will be taking the November spot that usually goes to the WDAS release. I'm hoping a WDAS film will still be released in 2015 despite that.
According to Boxoffice Mojo there are 9 major CGI films set for release in 2015! WOW
Can Disney find a spot for R&J's film?
The Penguins of Madagascar Fox 3/27/15
Trolls (Working Title) Fox 6/5/15
The Untitled Pixar Movie That Takes You Inside the Mind BV 6/19/15
Untitled Illumination Entertainment 2015 Project Uni. 7/3/15
B.O.O.: Bureau of Otherworldly Operations Fox 9/25/15
Hotel Transylvania 2 Sony 9/25/15
Untitled Peanuts Movie Fox 11/6/15
Finding Dory BV 11/25/15
Kung Fu Panda 3 Fox 12/23/15

I think that schedule is going to change a lot within the next year or two. No way is DreamWorks Animation releasing four films in one year. And I imagine BOO and Hotel Transylvania will change release dates.

... If said Peanuts movie is a live-action/animated film like a few certain cartoon adaptations, I swear I will shoot myself.

It's not. Peanuts is going to be a fully animated film by Blue Sky.

But look at 2014's animated films:
Lego WB 2/7/14
Mr. Peabody & Sherman Fox 3/7/14
Rio 2 Fox 4/11/14
The Good Dinosaur BV 5/30/14
How to Train Your Dragon 2 Fox 6/20/14
Popeye (2014) Sony 9/26/14
The Boxtrolls Focus 10/17/14
Disney Animation Untitled BV 11/7/14
Happy Smekday! Fox 11/26/14
The Untitled Minions Project Uni. 12/19/14
That's ALOT of animated films over the next 2 years. Which films are likey to move dates?
