The Princess' look is growing on me but it kinda bugs me that her Mum is more attractive then her. Also they dont really look related. Is this another evil stepmother cause Disney (Pixar) really needs to break away from that image of step mother figures.

Side note: Just realized we never see Andy's Dad in Toy Story. Are we assuming single Mum? What a random thing to suddenly think of lol

There's nothing wrong with Merida's mum being more attractive than her. Honestly, I think movies just need to break away from having all female characters be beautiful (with a few exceptions), while the male characters are not as obligated to be attractive. They generally are too, of course, but they have more leeway than female characters. It really bugs me. So I'm glad Merida isn't drop-dead gorgeous, but instead is pleasant and fresh-faced.

I just saw the teaser, and I thought it was pretty darn impressive. The animation (especially the aerial shot of the horse running) still seemed a tad off, but overall Brave looks like it has the potential to be truly epic. And I do not use that word lightly.

Look and enjoy.

Queen look kickass. Like her.

LOL at Braveheart shoe-in. Considering the setting, they just HAD to have a reference to him.

Sorry I didnt mean that all the characters had to be attractive. Just that the Queen doesn't look like she could be Merida's mother and its kind of an odd look to put out there that the mother seems more stereotypical beautiful and her daughter looks more plain. Not trying to say Merida's look is not a welcome one but her mother is definitely to stylized.

I'm guessing that part of the story involves Merida not being the typical pretty princess, and perhaps she's resentful if it's something her mother expects of her? It would make sense since she seems to be more stereotypically "beautiful" by comparison.

gah, the pic of merida in that like makes her look like shes high or something.

i agree that the queen doesnt look related to merida at all. the queen is stunning though.

SA, thanks for quoting the post with that link in it. :) saved me pages of hunting.

So far from what I've seen, this might just be my favorite Pixar film yet. I like that Merida herself is not really drop dead gorgeous, but more attractive in the tomboyish type of sense. I really hope we get to see more of the other character designs soon, particularyl Lord Cornwallis, Lord MacGuffin, and King Fergus.

As for the debate

I shouldn't have trouble talking my mom into seeing Brave with me. We both like fantasy stuff and she plays a lot of World of Warcraft.

I loved (and probably still do) I Dream of Jeannie (reruns of course), so funny, tries to give him 20/20 vision and he ends up with X-ray vision. I do get some people (the odd work colleague, some family) as well question my tastes - "What Disney, really? or "I'm not buying you the Sound of Music for Christmas" and from the same person "what this is your copy of Pride and Prejudice (BBC)" as apposed to my sister's (brother in law thinks guys should watch these types of films et cetera, I don't care though).

My Mum wants to go and see this as well (Brave - based on the trailer), but it's funny, she's like "Cars 2, nah, that's a kiddies movie, I don't want to be seen going to a kiddies movie (same reaction with Ponyo and Tinker Bell 3)" and yet she had a completely different view when going to Tangled, Wall-e, Rio, the Ice Age movies, UP, Ratatouille, Bolt amongst others. The usual response is, "I'll watch it on DVD" and she usually enjoys those movie anyway.

Soooo... does anyone have any ideas on how the Pizza Planet truck is going to make a cameo this time?

I doubt it. Unless they could find some way to make the Pizza Planet logo into a slight medieval sign.

Hey. They snuck in a satellite dish into Hunchback didn't they?

During Out There where they have they bird's eye view of Notre Dame cathedral. As the directors say, it's in "the lower left hand corner."

Is that really proven to be a satellite dish or did the directors just say they thought it looked like one?

For the pizza planet truck, they could simply stick one in their hidden as usual, but I'd rather a more clever pizza planet carriage (if they had what we would call carriages in medieval Scotland).

By the way, as for Merida's design...I like the concept picture of her, the one next to the queen in that one link, but not her final design in the film, or at least, the trailer we have seen.

Also, I don't think her nose should be so pinched to perfection. It's so weird how they will let girls be fairly different in so many ways, with eyes, lips, and head-shapes...but they still all have perfect little noses with perfectly thin/pinched bridges of their nose. It's just backwards to me that her head and eyes can be kind of round but she still looks like she had a nose job to look as pretty as all the other princesses...

God, no. That has Dreamworks written all over it.

No, the directors said in the audio commentary that they accidentally put in it.
