I think Disney bases the DMR points (ie. 75 vs. 100) on the manufacturer's suggested selling price of the title. We're paying less for The Black Cauldron, so we get less points. Similarly, we pay more for Blu ray titles, so we get more points. Most lower priced Disney dvd's have contained only 75 points. In a sense, we're paying for whatever we redeem the points for with the titles we buy.

I watched the movie last night. Wow! Much better picture quality than the Gold Collection.

Strange thing is: Dutch editions do have a slipcover!

I bought my copy today and I loved the deleted scene! Much is talked about the footage cut just before the film's release but there was alot of animation in that feature and it was very interesting. However, it leaves one really begging for more and this film just demands an edition with more of this archival material. Even a commentary for the scene included would have been wonderful.

Just watched the gold collection version..
still a great movie, I'm still unsure wether or not to purchase the newer version,

gold collection aspect ratio is 4x3 2.35:1
new version .... 16x9 1.78.1

can one really speak of un upgrade in this case

It's already been shown in this thread that the new version is 2.35:1 16x9 while the old one was 2.29:1 non anamorphic. Where did you get your numbers from?

Fellow Dutchie... trust me. Geloof me. Het is de moeite waard. The Gold Collection version is in fullscreen; the new version is widescreen. The Gold one is dark and blurry. The new one is bright and cleaned-up. You'll not regret it. Gewoon doen!

Dear Disney Enthusiasts,

I was finally able to find the movie at a slightly out-of-the-way Wal*Mart store (The movie arrived w/ that cool Trick-or-Treat bag). The deleted scene, and the still frame gallery, are interesting. I wish that The Disney Company had included a special program that was shown on Vault Disney during the late 1990s/ early 2000s; that program featured a 1981 (?) interview with Susan Sheridan (?), but the interviewer from said interview WAS slightly demeaning towards her, because when she expressed an interest in Hen Wen, she was reminded that she was actually the princess...

I couldn't seem to find the original trailer...

I was glad to be able to watch an old favorite again...

just watched the movie an everything except the gallery. it was all good, but the film didnt really meet expectations. good flick, though.

Got it the other day.

Other than the deleted scene which was vastly superior to one in film( i duuno what lead them to that stinking decision), and update pretty pictures(lol ratio aspect/pic quality-tards), The whole package it self isn't all that different from golden edition. Gallery is even the same. With 8 years in making, you would think this film could bring in a lot of backstage history & contents about this movie. Eh, just greedy exec being fuck-heads

Anyone else notice the white lines that occasionally popped up around the characters black outlines? I don't own the Gold Edition of this movie and I've only seen it previously via youtube, so I was wondering if these lines were on the last version? I'll take some screen caps if I need to better explain myself.

I just want to be clear on this. Did the US version come with or without a slipcover?

I saw something white but it seems like excessive grain.
