I understand the age is a big issue / topic pertaining to this accident.. However, I would feel that a parent would feel that if his/her child met the requirements of any ride, that they would be safe and sound..

Another question to ponder.. Did the mother ever visit before, was she familiar with the ride.. She may have thought it to be harmless..

It's a said situation for the family overall.. I feel bad for the mother cause she will ultimately put the blame on her for taking her child on the ride in the first place, she has to live the remainder of her life feeling like she killed her son..

I can't imagine any sane and caring parent having to live with that..

Another question off topic but on topic..

If your child died, and a company was liable for the death, would you sue? What are you going to gain? would you feel right suing for millions and millions of dollars? would it ease the pain any? Would you look at your new found fortune and be able to smile that your rich now? Would it be a constant reminder of your childs death?

Would profiting off your childs death be a good thing in any way?

The only way I could see a lawsuit being good is too sue to have the wrong righted if it was a ride, or a vehicle or something that caused the death..

I just want to point out that my CBS local news did a quick report on the accident. The verbal information is the basic "kid passed out, kid was four, kid made the height requirement, kid died." It added pictures of the ride, and the information that there are air sickness bags.

UPDATE: I just saw the story on national news (again on CBS). There was much more information this time--but more on the specific ride, age requirements and the statistics about deaths/injuries at theme parks.

I've riden this ride twice and both times I had to sit outside for about 30 minutes for my body to calm down. Although the ride is not for me, my husband loves it. I don't think the ride should close but I do think the age limit or height requirements should be raised.

If you've never ridden Mission:Space, CNN.com has a story with a small pic of the capsules you strap in to. Basically, you are one of four people and a roller coaster-esque restraint comes down over you head and shoulders, virtually ensuring that you are secured and that your head remains fairly motionless.

They said there was no trauma to the child.. More test are being run to find out the cause of death.

Unlike most people I say that it's better to let kids go by height instead of age. Because there can be people aged 6 but can be too short for the ride. Yes it's sad that boy had to die, but nobody knows why. He probably had a sickness of some sort. But most little kids go on big rides but end up safe. In fact my 4-year old cousion went on Tower of Terror and he was perfectly fine! Even though after the ride was over he was pushing people out of the way to get out of there!

That's too bad. I never went on that ride in Epcot. The book we had said to skip that ride and come back at the end if there's time since it's not a must ride.

I have yet to go on the Tower of Terror. We didn't go to California Adventure last summer and when we went to Disney World in 2000, I was afraid of it. If I ever go to California Adventure or to Disney World, I will definitely ride it, though.

Back to the original topic, they should probably have requirements for both: you must be this old and this tall to ride.

I believe the ride shouldn't have been opened so soon after the 4-year-old's death.

This is kind of off-topic but it does ivolve an amusement park. Have any of you heard of Galaxyland at West Edmonton Mall. Galaxyland is an indoor amusement parkI believe it was June 14, 1986 that an accident happened and there was death. It was the triple loop roller coaster and one of the cars derailed and three people were killed. I can't remember if he was the only one that died. If I find the article I'll post it. I believe the ride was closed for an indefinite period of time for investigation and to make sure the ride was safe.

That really too bad. I hope thay find out what did it and that M:S is back in full speed soon.agin The parents and sister must feel awful.

Tower of Terror is the BEST RIDE EVER! Definatly go on it sometime! You won't be disappointed!

As fro the having requirements of both age and height, I guess I can't argue with that.

I saw a video of the ride from a newspaper website and the people were explaining the ride and the G forces and such, and it looks scary, so I think when I go to wdw, i'll skip that ride. Somehow, I don't think my ears could take the pressure, nor the rest of my body.
