To me, dubbing isn't really bad as long as the original version is included along with it, and that the dub is good. I see too many japanese shows and movies that get butchered in the dub. I think most people dislike dubs because most of the japanese anime brought into America have terrible dubs. But Disney tries hard with the Ghibli films and I think that all of their dubs are excellent, especially when compared to many other dubs.

I mostly don't like dubbing in live action movies. I hate that! Its ok to dub during animated movies, as long as the voices aren't corny or stupid sounding (you get that in a lot of badly dubbed kung fu movies). I was perfectly fine with the dubbing in Spirited Away. Daveigh Chase did a great job potraying Chihiro!

The Cat Returns is not a Miyazaki film, hence its not part of Amazon's deal.
If any of you are planning on buying all 6 of those (I have all of them, yay ), I'd suggest buying them seperately... Just buy wave 1+Princess Mononoke for 15 bucks each and you can probaly get Nausicaa and Porco Rosso for around 30 bucks each so that adds up to about 120, compared to Amazon's 140 deal.

Laputa's dub is golden when compared to Kiki's.

I really don't understand people that think it is OK to dub cartoons but not live action. I wonder if you people also watch B/W stuff in color? I just think you guys are funny. Anyways the only reason I'm buying the region1 DVDs is because I want the dubs since I already have all of them subbed. So in a way I'm just as guilty as you guys. I always think of the subbed track as the charcters real voice.

Yeah, saying it's OK to dub animation, but not live-action makes no sense whatsoever, but whatever. I'm not saying that I hate animated dubs, because I actually enjoy them and they're the only ones I know, but I'm just trying to make a point that it's just as bad anything else, regardless of whether or not we "enjoy" it.

Animated dubs sound better than live action dubs. The dubs in lots of kung fu movies is really bad but the animated dub in spirited away is really good. Animated dubs sound more realistic.

Well, sort of like Renata once said, all animated films are dubbed in the sense that they're using audio from a tape. Insomuch as Miyazaki's films are very visually powerful, some of that power is lost if you're reading subtitles the whole time.

Well, blame that on the dubbers of the films. A live action film dub can be just as good as an animated dub if they tried. If the actors do a good performance, it can be just as good as the original.
