Loomis, I more than LOLed at your top 10 list.

Bootleggers are really annoying me as of late (not that they haven't always, but I digress). They're engaging in blatant robbery- especially if they don't let the innocent consumer that they've decided to prey upon know that what they are buying is a bootleg (but then, if they did know it was a bootleg- they wouldn't be innocent).

Well, honestly I can't tell. The 800 number at dvd replacement said that since it did not have the lot number on the back of the disc (in the clear before the center) that it was a bootleg. But it's in Chinese so I wouldn't know the lot number if it was there! lol Do Asian editions have the lot number and info in English? Here is a link to my auction:

They were a new seller when I decided to give them a try. As their feedback stands now, I wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole. Live and learn, I guess. What's everyone think of the pic?

I've just avoided any dvds from china or asia. If it is a bootleg at least you only spent $8 on it!

You can always email them and ask (or try to make) them to let you return it to them for a refund. I haven't done this before, but I know there are steps to take if it isn't advertised as a bootleg DVD... or even as an Asian DVD.

With the proliferation of non-authentic / bootleg Disney DVDs on the market (eBay in particular), I thought some further info would be helpful to others searching for and buying OOP DVDs. This problem seems to be most prevalent with the OOP titles which have a higher value like Toy Story 1 & 2, Little Mermaid, Jungle Book, Tarzan, Mulan, Lady and the Tramp, etc. I’ve been in contact with Disney’s legal/piracy dept several times. Per my conversation with Disney, it is illegal to sell bootleg or Asian import Disney DVDs in the USA. They are very concerned about this problem and are serious about pursuing offenders. Here are some guidelines ….
1. Factory sealed DVDs should have the Buena Vista logo stamped on the shrink-wrap AND the white security seals on the case.
2. The majority (if not all) of the single disc DVDs are in a white case.
3. The case artwork will have rounded corners. If the corners are square, beware.
4. The disc artwork on bootlegs can be a different picture or inferior quality when compared to an authentic disc.
5. Be leery of case artwork & chapter index inserts that are on glossy, slick, heavier stock paper.

Then there’s the Asian import issue. On eBay some are identified as such but most are not.
1. As a general rule, if the seller is from any Pacific rim country, they’re selling cheap Asian imports.
2. Some will have Asian characters on the case.
3. Some will have a totally different picture used for the case artwork.
4. Some will have subtitle options for Asian countries.

If you’re buying off eBay, ask the seller questions before you bid, check their location and check their feedback! When asking questions, also ask them if they can email a photo.

Welcome PhilMo. It's nice to see you here at Ultimate Disney. Thanks for the advice about bootleg Disney DVDs. It's sort of a big issue sometimes here. I'm pretty sure that the members here who buy stuff on eBay will try to remember your advice.

Canada and the USA are Pacific Rim countires. Does that mean sellers from these countries are selling bootlegs as a general rule?

I buy tons of DVD'S from Canada from a Wholesale Warehouse up their and i always get Authentic New DVD'S for a whole lot less money then what Amazon.com charges.

Also when they Have Oriental Symbols on the covers that usually is a good sign of Bootleg. Also don't buy DVD'S that look fake. And before you buy check the internet to see if these are actually available for purchase and check to see if the cover art is right. And when the image is like a cut and paste from Amazon.com or a Stock Photo take ware. It might be authentic but it might be a bootleg.

Another thing that I've noticed on Asian/bootleg import : The "Disney DVD" logo.
You will notice that the "DVD" letters on authentic BVHE DVDs are in bold characters, which is not the case on the Asian/bootleg imports, where the letters lokk thiner.

I only buy from US or canadian seller that have a 99% of feedback or more. I've buy over 40 movies with no problem whatsoever.

I am totally astonished. What grade are you in? Canada and the US border on the pacific ocean as well. You know what - I am looking at the Pacific Ocean as I type this and I live in Canada. Canada and the US are most definately in the Pacific Rim. In fact here is the link to Yahoo's listing of countries in the Pacific Rim. Countries that are on the Atlantic ocean that are also Pacific Rim Countries - Canada, USA, Mexico, Guatamala, Nicaragua, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, Columbia and Chile.

Ahh found it, its called APEC, The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) organization and includes the US and Canada.

You should most definately feel stupid for posting that, because Prince Ali, you are most definately stupid. Pay close attention to points 2 and three. You really covered off #2 here and #3 in response to Karlsen's warning about DVD Pacific quite nicely today.
