In this case,

to Full Frame. Both films were animated in the 1.33:1 ratio. Return of Jafar is presented properly as such, but King of Thieves is matted to a pseudo-widescreen ratio of 1.85:1.

Hmmm...

Well, okay, I guess that sounds better.

:D
I'd rather have it presented properly than..."crap" (is that a useable word for this forum. i'll apologize in advance if not.)
I guess I'll just set my TV to "Panorama" to make it look widescreen

Well, I remember RoJ was a bad movie, the characters look horrible: especially Jafar

But I remember my face in the the videoclub when I saw it there

:my favorite movie, the first time ever Disney did that, they brought back Jafar which was extremely cool (he wasn't my favorite character back then, it was Genie).... I tought I was dreaming.
When KoT came out I was like

: never tought I'd see another Aladdin movie again, it was the first to make a trilogy... but was also

because I knew it was going to be the end of the story.
But still I'm going to buy them on Tuesday. I'm an Aladdin fan after all and Jafar is back (in a very disturbing way

) These are going to be the only sequels I'll buy.
The Lion King 2 was very good but to me just so so...
The Lion King 1/2 was very promising and nicely done but lacked charm
The Little Mermaid 2 was very good in almost every aspect but the story was the same backwards...
And the rest of them, I'm not even planning on getting close to them, especially Hunchback 2 ; I remember my friend saying: "I didn't think Quasi could look uglier.... Disney proved me wrong"

In my memories, I never noticed the lesser animation quality of the cheapqualls, but the two alladin sequalls I liked, but after Lion King 2 I was very dissapointed.
Lion King 2, just lacks the charm of the original movie, I think this came because different colours where use, and the lack of music in the style of the first movie. That's why I like the Lion King 1 1/2 more than 2, 1 1/2 just feels more like a lion king movie, coluring and art style are , more like in the first movie, and the re-use of the music from the first movie makes it better, especially the background music.
I think that they should remake the lion king 2, with a budget that match the budget of movie 1. So you can hire Elton John and Tim Rice and Hans Zimmer for the music again, and more people of the original team, and you can let it draw by toon disney studios, because they can draw , we saw it with the LionKing 1 1/2 where the animation wasn't far from the quality of the original movie.

I got them today. Couldn't wait so I went to Spec's that sells their movies on Monday. It cost me $35 tough.
At least I'm done with all the Aladdin movies.
The box art look beautiful and I'm sure their going to sell very well because of the way they're packed. They truly stand out.
Now I have a question for Luke, why don't you think Disney decided to release them with slipcovers like The Lion King's?

Ok, would someone know why Disney put so much effort into KoT and not RoJ:
1) a new video video format (altough wrong)
2) a better use of the 5.1
PD
I LOVE THE POCAHONTAS JOKE on KoT

.........................................................
My opinion regarding these movies:
1. RoJ was way better than I had remember. I thought the movie would really suck but no. In fact, I found it better than KoT. It has very nice and catchy songs and "You're only Second Rate was nicely animated but I'd would have make it more spectacular.
Just 2 bad things stand out:
-the animation: it wasn't as bad as I remembered but still it was horrid.
-the story was nicely done but had Disney stretched the movie 20 min more, they could have made Jafar's scheme more suspensful and stronger for the audience
2. KoT: didn't like it that much; I'll watch it again today to see. In this case I'd have to say and admit Genie's the one that make it work; he has better jokes here than in the original movie. I'd have work more on the story and the pace (the concept was good but in the end the movie felt lacking of something).
Here 3 bad things:
1. The songs were extremely weak, especially in comparison with RoJ: "There's a party here in Agrabah" needed not to have been cut so many times and more work, "Out of thin air" was promising but in the end felt lacking of something. The only ones that stood out were: "Are you in or out" and "welcome to the 40 Thieves"... the "Arabian Nights" reprise was terrible
2. There was a problem with the colors; the Sultan's choice was the worst. He looked like rusty metal.
3. Jasmine needed more screen time. Whenever she was there, she truly shined.

It's realy time for disney to remake the first 3 cheapqualls. I woud have liked it if they just used the same recordings and just redrawed the hole thing. And like I said before, witch the lionking 2 they may change besided the animation a few mirror things, like use background music from the original movie, let Zira commit suicide at the end, like in the cut scene, and Rewrite most of the songs.
I would have liked If they start with a other version of the circle of life , same music different lyrics, and put They live in you , instead of we are one. Oh yeeh defenitely trow upendi out, or see if you can hire elton john and tim rice , for a few songs, and make the story a little darker, because my main complain against this cheapqualls are that they are made for the younger childern and the orginal movies are more for any age. If disney does did, we actually can make from this good cheapuall, a pretty good sequall. And the alladin sequalls, Just needs to be redrawed. You than make a special edition DVD, on wich you can put the original version and this new version on it.
Oh yeah some of

I went around to several different stores at lunchtime and found some descrepencies in the packaging of this set. At Best Buy, the set was in a box set with a nice box. At Wal-Mart and Costco, the set was side by side as shown in the pictures we've seen here. Anyone else noticed this? I'll probably pick it up on my way home at Best Buy for the box.

YES! At Circuit City and Best Buy, they have a box for the Two DVDs!

Sadly, Wal-mart, Target, K-mart (and others) only have the side-by-side packaging!
Circuit City is the cheapest at
$19.99 and if you're lucky you could get the free genie plush that comes along with it!
I'm very happy with this purchase (regardless of it being full frame!)

Luke wrote:My review probably won't be done until sometime tomorrow, but it's worth pointing out that despite what the press release said, King of Thieves is in the same oddly-framed 1.85:1 aspect ratio it appeared in for the recent Region 2 reissue.
Are you sure? I went to Blockbuster today and looked at case for the rental copy of
King of Thieves, and it said the movie was in 1.33:1. Maybe disney corrected the cropped UK release when they were doing the North American one. Has anyone watched the region 1 DVD? Is the insert just wrong?
I'm very happy with this purchase (regardless of it being full frame!)
The movies were originally in fullscreen; why would you want them mutilated just to suit widescreen TVs, which aren't even in a majority of households yet.
