I'm SO angry because of this...
No Cinderella for 2003...
No new release date...
No new release date?

I was looking forward to buying Cinderella.

Great, that means the earliest I'll be getting Cinderella on DVD is when I'm about to graduate from high school.
Thanks for finding out all the info for us, though, Ric.

You are just the eternal optimist today, aren't you Hooky?
As you suggested in another thread - we have ONE or TWo possible other DVDs to keep us busy in the meantime.
Any more announcements this year and I'll have to get another credit card

Ahh... Loomis, if you only knew how hard I try to be optimistic.

However, I do not like the name Hooky, I prefer Cap'n to that.

Loomis, stop making me laugh, my sides are aching! All right, you can call me Hooky.

Yeah, I'm a regular riot

I should come with a warning label: Caution - May Split Sides.
I'm glad you're cool with Hooky, though - it is a tribute to Peter Hook, the bass player from New Order

I'm glad this POST has got over 1500 views

I'm really happy that this post has got over 1500 views now... (althoug I think it won't get anymore replies, since the news about it are over)
I think these will be our "platinum topics"
Sleeping Beauty and Lion King related topics are the ones with most views, like "Sleeping Beauty Cover Art"...
The record goes to "Lion King Press Release" with almost 4000 views!!!
I think this indicate which issues about disney dvd's and which releases this online community cares the most.
Still the "Just Wondering / Disney Story" has a great number of 1800 views, and this one was to get to know us better... (I'll make my reply for that soon...)

An small conclusion
A RAY OF HOPE:
*** Since the DVD is ready to be released, it's logical to think that Cinderella will get an early 2004 release (in Mexico)... maybe February or April... like Sleeping Beauty did this year. ***
*** Since Aladdin is beaing released on IMAX and it's confirmed to be the next platinum, maybe Cinderella (Region1) will get the first spring platinum release in 2005, just a year after the R4, let's remember that Sleeping Beauty premiered on R2 early 2002 ***

Interesting observations, and ones I myself have made (to myself) at some points.
It helps that the Lion King Press Release thread comes up near the top of google, from time-to-time even ahead of Disney's official site.
I think the "Just Wondering"/"Disney Story" benefits from two things: repeat views (a number of us are interested in new members' stories and will check out the thread from time-to-time) and of course the generous "sticky" status that keeps it at top.
If I were to put together a short list of the most popular items that are covered on the site...
5) Finding Nemo/Sleeping Beauty
4) Disney Treasures
3) Upcoming Release List (which incorporates all of the other elements too - amazing to think that I didn't have this page until it was suggested by members a couple of months ago)
2) all things Lion King
1) the "Circle of Life" Music video performed by the Disney Channel Circle of "Stars"; Unbelievable, yes, that the hottest thing on a Disney DVD site wouldn't even be a predominantly DVD issue...but hey, those Disney Channel stars (who are just like us, by the way!) have their fan followings and that's cool.

On Sleeping Beauty, you are correct. For Peter Pan, Oliver & Company or The Santa Clause, "Special Edition" isn't quite the same at all.

First of all, NO!!!!!!!!! Sleeping Beauty is NOT Platinum!!!! It is SE! I suspect the SE's of Alice, Pochahontas, and Lilo, will all be very similar, that does not make them Platinum....
For now, it should just be assumed that the Platinum titles are:
Snow White
Beauty and the Beauty
The Lion King
Aladdin
The Little Mermaid
Cinderella
Bambi
The Jungle Book
Lady and the Tramp
101 Dalmations
I know disney may seem to change their plans on occasion, but the Platinum calls for
one title every
October and a second title every
March starting 2005!!!!! Sleeping Beauty is niether being released in October, by itself, or in March of 2005, it's being released next month as Special Edition!
End of rant, sorry to be so uh.... direct, but the fact that this is even still a question boggles my mind!
Anyway back to the situation at hand... I voted October Platinum because, while the rest of the world might get it sooner, I would bet everything that it will make it's debut as an
October Platinum, now I think Mermaid will be released Oct 2005, and Cindy Oct. 2006, but that was the closest thing to it....
Cinderella is too big a title to be released in March, atleast that is my opinion....

Yeah, but that's part of the problem with the two platinums a year-people will start to think that the March platinum isn't quite as good as the October, and eventually cause some sort of change in the schedule, or the name etc...
How about both Platinums be released in October? Anyone?
If they pit something like Treasure Planet etc. against Cinderella etc, maybe Disney will finally realize what the people want!

Well, if you think about it, Mermaid is gaurenteed to be 2005 October Platinum following a Special Edition I-Max release, Cinderella and Bambi are the 2 remaining titles not yet released to DVD therefore they should be October released following the original Platinum plan, The last three already have DVD releases, so a March rerelease would be fitting...

Well, here's what I think could possibly happen:
October 2004-Aladdin
October 2005-The Little Mermaid
March 2006-Bambi
October 2006-Cinderella
March 2007-101 Dalmatians
October 2007-Lady and the Tramp
March 2008-The Jungle Book
Then I think the supposed "new" platinums-Pinocchio, Fantasia, Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty-will instead become 2-disc special editions which is the route Sleeping Beauty seems to have went. Therefore the following could happen:
January 2004:
Alice in Wonderland
Pocahontas
Lilo and Stitch
January 2005:
Pinocchio
Fantasia
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
January 2006:
Peter Pan (I believe this will be last considering it was just on DVD over a year ago)
(insert two other SE candidates-anthology features, perhaps?)
