Over simplistic.

I don't think he is making the big call on every single release.

Anyways, here we go again, with people inevitably condemning a film without having seen it yet.

Yeah, I can't stand these companies that give us free entertainment.

How dare they clog up the airwaves with their own scheduled programming!

Again, maybe someone should SEE THE SHOW FIRST before saying something is wrong with it.

I posted something like this before "the loss", so here goes (to paraphrase myself):

Out of all the Feature Animation films not based on existing literature series (such as The Great Mouse Detective or The Rescuers), TENG is the one most suited for a sequel. This is mainly because, when all is said and done, the film was about personalities more than story. The story was just a means of keeping the characters together and creating "wacky" events.

With characters as well defined as Kuzco, Kronk, Yzma and even Bucky the Squirrel, and Pacha as the "straight man" you even have a nebulous Looney Tunes cast.

I must say, there are literally hundreds of things that could be written about, taking inspiration from the time, the setting, Kuzco's position and most importantly how the characters would interact with each other.

You know, nobody complained when Warner Bros. made the same cartoon three times (the Duck Season/Rabbit Season "trilogy") and nobody should complain about a TENG series as long as the feel, fun and pace of the original is maintained.

While I don't mind if Yzma is turned back into a human somehow, it would be a shame if the Kuzco llama gimmick was kept. There's no really need for it - Yzma's a witch(ish). I'm sure she has other poisons and potions she's itching to use! Still, the odd llama reprise isn't going to hurt if done sparingly.

As for the proposed animated series, I think the idea of sending an adult Kuzco back to school to pass his diploma to retain his kingdom is incredibly clever (if this is the series premise as rumoured). Not only will there be automatic conflict, allowing even the "reformed" Kuzco to complain and rebel while keeping the viewers sympathy (after all the target audience will be school-attending children), there's lots of scope for mischief from Kronk and Yzma out to distract him and steal his kindom! Of course, I'm sure there will be the odd non-school centred episode too.

I can see such a series being a huge smash hit.

people!! i need INFO on this movie!

post! post! everything u know!!

it's strange... according to imdb... all the original cast is returning which is weird because it gets me wondering why disney decided to make the focus of the movie about kronk if they got the rest of the cast signed... also though.. imdb is still calling the movie by the old title "The Emperors Newer Groove" which means that there is a good chance that it's not very up to date and the original cast may infact not be coming back... any1 know anything??

only to never trust IMDB in regards to upcoming movies. But I think maybe the Kronk idea just popped out and replaced whatever original plans were made for Emperor's Newer Groove

Kronk is the star of the original movie. So Kronk getting his own movie is awesome :) I sure hope that, like Lilo and Stitch, the animation will be up to the quality of the original. Kuzco would say: "bring it on"

I really love Konk's silly humor and lack of brain. I think this has potential.

yes but i mean do you think an entire movie can be basewd solely on that kind of slapstick humor? because if that will be the case then it wouldnt even slightly reach the standards of the first because it would be lacking in wit and cleverness.

hmm good point... well... i guess sequels ARE being released in theaters... only new animated films... so disney's just trying to get around their "no 2D" oath by doing a lot of sequels...

sooo... i guess we're back to the original question... why not go theatrical?

The Pooh franchise is very popular in the USA and in other countries + it's easy to get the voice actors, since Winnie The Pooh gets a new animated movie every year (or even more). Any Pooh movie is bound to have a high box office number. The Emperor's New Groove was not that popular in 2000 and most people will probably not remember the story from the first one anyway to make them see the sequel. I honestly don't know why Lilo & Stitch 2 isn't getting a theatrical release, as it is also bound to have a high box office number too... Guess they're affraid that they are starting to promote it too late...

Well, see maybe disney ISNT releasing 2D in the theaters after all... except for pooh for some unknow reason... i dont think stitch isnt getting a theatrical release because it's too late to promote... they've known about this for a lonnngg time and hey... it's disney.. they can promote anything in any situation.

disney likes doing that... taking a minor character from a movie and then giving him a movie of his own... strange how the disney mind works. they're sur that every sequel has to start in a new direction instead of just keeping on with the one the original set.

Also, what more can be said of Kuzco? he lived happy? he got a new theme park on the other hill? he was a older brother of a little llama?
I will like to know what happened to Kronk--after Yzma´s cat-astrofyc ending--and the squirrel[/quote]

Maybe David Spade wanted a raised or is to busy doing 8 simple rules.
Disney could also try to do something different like for example Pooh's spin-off Tigger and Piglet.

Well, it wouldn't be the first time that this franchise has changed tactics in the middle of the film.

The entire concept on the original TENG was changed from a boring-sounding epic, to the fun film we have today. If this proposed sequel is half as fun as the original, then we are in for a real treat.
