Wow, this thread has accumulated 3 pages in like 2 days... wowza!! Maybe even if Disney really wasn't planning to release it before, they'll see this and do it now. I like Mulan a lot and anticipate this release. I think it would fit in best with the Masterpiece Collection, which seems kind of destined for 2-Disc releases of Disney titles that don't fall into Platinum or aren't new releases.

The 2-disc Special Edition is legitimate. It is previewed on the Ghosts of the Abyss DVD. Here are some captures from the preview. The information has been updated on the front page.

Awesome to know that it's indeed coming. I really hope this set turns out be extensive. Since there's no previous laserdisc to fall back on, all of the DVD features will have to be newly produced (the non-archival stuff, that is). This slightly worries me because after what happened with Alice in Wonderland, my trust in Disney creating a commentary track and new featurette/documentary for Mulan is sliding. I'm hoping Disney will pleasantly surprise me, though.

Very good news that is legit. Isn't it nice to have solid DVD releases to look forward to? For Mulan, I'm just looking forward to have it on DVD, though... the special features don't attract me as much, maybe because it's not a favorite of mine (I really like it, but I like it for what it is- a B Disney movie, imo :))

this is very good news. a very good film getting a very good dvd treatment (hopefully). another reason i'm so psyched for this release, is because it was the first fully animated feature from my "alma mater".....Disney Studios Orlando :)

quite comical, though, is the idea that there is newly discovered footage from this movie that was released less than 6 years ago. i appears disney lost/forgot about this film and recently discovered new footage  to go with it

well, the disney catalog titles are already definitely taking a dive in my pocketbook, so why not add another 2-disc dvd in just for the fun of it.

i must say, the thing that i'm most happy with, is the quantity of releases disney is scheduling for this year. however, the problem is going to be keeping consistent quality with each and every "special release".

Holy fuzzy, October is going to be like DVD overload month for me. Aladdin AND Mulan. I think I'm going to have a "Home Simpson happy" moment. The one where he's like "mmmmmmmmmmm donuts." For me it's like "mmmmmmmmmmmmm DVDs." I wonder what the special features for the Mulan DVD will be. I've been waiting to upgrade from tape to DVD for quite some time.

I too already have Mulan single disc Gold Collection DVD but with me, if there is a double disc set to be had of a previously released single disc, then I must get it! Also helps that Mulan is my favourite of all Disney movies!

I've been holding off the comments on this till I knew this was for real.

WOW! That's awesome news! I'll have to pull my bid from a crappy Gold Collection release of over 50 bucks on ebay! Mulan is a fairly consistent film worthy of te title 'Animated Classic'. Orlando Disney artists rock!

Enough with the excitement.... This is turning out to be an expensive Disney year. Hopefully, quantity won't reduce quality, but knowing Disney I won't try to keep my hopes up to high. Although, I'm still wondering whether this will be a Masterpiece Edition or just simply a 2-disc S.E. Also wonder if Disney gonna give us a slipcover... I can't wait to see the cover art and full specs. Here's hoping for the best! :D Thanks Luke for the screenshots.

They certainly are cramming the last half of the year, aren't they? What are your thoughts on how this will effect sales? As we pretty much established in previous posts, Aladdin will sale well no matter what. Will other Disney releases suffer because of it? It especially seems like Mulan and Aladdin- both 2-Disc special editions of 90s animated classics- might clash with one another.

There's probably enough room for both to see this year. I think this fall, we can expect other DVDs as well. Last year, Disney had Lion King, Finding Nemo, and Sleeping Beauty. This year, it looks like there'll be the same amount(am I counting correctly? Aladdin, Mulan, Mary Poppins). I don't know how popular Mulan is going to be though. Is this the first re-released DVD for Disney? It seems like most of their other stuff hasn't been release on DVD yet. Mulan is the first one to be brought back from moratorium.

FINALLY... I wonder what the dvd cover will look like. The GC had the same cover as the vhs... I think there's really been only one cover so far. Hope it's a good one :)

This is great news ... very much anticipating the release! I've never seen Mulan in its entirety, but what I did see, I liked (and I just love the three Orlando Disney films, anyway). And I couldn't find the Gold edition, so it'll be really nice ... to own on DVD, add to my collection, et cetera ...

I'm actually looking forward to this ... more than Aladdin, though I'm excited about (and will be getting) both. I guess I'll be getting a lot of Disney DVD's later this year! LK 2, Home on the Range, Mulan, Aladdin ...

Though I do hope the Lilo & Stitch and Pocahontas Masterpiece Editions make it out eventually ... as I'm sure they will, sometime next year. As I'm quite eager about those, as well ...

What happens to Mulan II now? I can't imagine that Disney will release both in the same month (they are waiting almost a year to release Lion King II after re-releasing Lion King last year).

I think that sales will be just fine. There is not one UD member so far that has said they will not buy both. Thanks Luke for confiming. I am very happy that I will not have to drop 50 $ on ebay for a barebones DVD.

I would have agreed if Disney also had released the Pocahontas Special Edition this year, but as it stands we are only getting 3 re-releases/special treatments of Disney Classics. Considering there are so many "Gold" only releases... sighs... it's going to be a long time before we see respectable releases that these classics deserve.

Awesome!!!

Aladdin and Mulan in October!!!
I can't wait!!!
Mulan deserves the upgrade as does Aladdin.

What's next The Rescuers, The Great Mouse Decetive, The Hunchback or Notre Dame, Hercules, Tarzan and Emperor's New Groove Special Edition?

I hope so!!! :D

I was almost sure the DVD wasn't just a rumor, but it is GREAT to hear a confirmation (thanks a lot for the screencaps, Luke!).

But I still wonder... why the heck can't they release "Pocahontas" and "Lilo" this year?! And what about the rumoured "Dumbo" special edition?!
