I haven’t watched any of the second season, but Rey and I binged on season one recently and have really enjoyed this show.

I think a company like Disney has a hard task to overcome while trying to become more diverse and inclusive. They have to walk a thin line between maintaining the audience they already have while introducing new ideas and content that may be “unfamiliar” to their audience. The LGBTQIA+ Community is a minority group after all, and as a member of that group myself I can understand Disney taking a sort of wade in the water approach.
Personally, yes I would be over the moon if they introduced a Drag Queen Princess tomorrow, but I can also see why that’s considered a risk. I just don’t think it’s really fair to say the company is pandering to the LGBTQIA+ Community when they have obviously taken strides to create more content for our community, and plan to continue to do so. We went from the mere suggestion La Fou was gay in the Live Action Beauty and the Beast because he danced with a guy at the end of the movie for 3 seconds in 2017 to MacGregor in Jungle Cruise having a full coming out scene with Frank (The Rock, one of the biggest stars in Hollywood and one of the most heterosexual-normative men on screen) and Frank validating him just 4 years later. For me, that’s Disney putting their money where their mouth is.

You make a good point, singerguy04. I still think Disney should make a gay couple do romantic things in a feature already, but you still make a good point that gives them some good reason to slow into that. Lol Drag Princess that was funny.

Cute. I've seen a lot of images like that, pairing male Disney characters in fandom images or gender-bending characters sometimes. There was a really good one that did that with Gaston and Eric. Still, it must've been fun for the person who actually animated these two characters to do it.

The thing is that Disney makes so much of their money overseas and many people seem to forget that in a LOT of those countries, being gay is not okay at best or it could get you the death penalty in the worst case. So, not only do the Disney execs have to appeal to the conservative crowd within the US but also to the one in other countries.
I mean just look at how Russia handled the remake of Beauty And The Beast when it came out.
At the end of the day, Disney is a business and even though they might care about art and good storytelling ,their first goal is to make as much money as possible and by alienating some important markets overseas, they would just make a lower profit so I don’t blame them for taking their time with it.

I never really watched that show much back when. The wide-eyed Disney channel brand of acting was really bad on that show, which was probably why. So I don't know if it would've suited the show if the character had been made LGBT. I can understand if she thought maybe the character didn't necessarily need to be exactly like her.

They have no problems alienating foreign audiences with recasting races so they should have no issue doing the same with changing sexuality.

It's a scary world right now, especially with the likelihood those people will gain power again soon. In a few months, abortion could be illegal in 3/4 of the country. LGBT has always been the front on which Disney is the weakest and, unfortunately, the public is not as energized against this kind of thing as they were when Trump was president, so companies aren't really feeling the heat to take a stand as then.
I think the difference between Iger and Chapek also had to do with Iger having political aspirations that haven't panned out. That balanced out with his desire for $$$, whereas Chapek is only concerned with $$$.
