No, I'm thinking the same thing. People had issues with the songs in the Jungle Book, it's gonna be the same thing over here but much worse. I've been against this film ever since it was announced and I'll probably be annoyed with this until it arrives on cinemas.

yeah its just they did such a good job making lifelike CGI animals in JB. Its like, imagine you're watching Planet Earth and then the animals start breaking into these big boisterous musical numbers. Its different in animation b/c despite the animals being depicted in a naturalistic manner(as opposed to anthropomorphic like Robin Hood) they still have human facial expressions and characteristic, like the way Timon walks like a human on 2 feet or when the lions & hyenas briefly gesture with their hands. It makes for a smoother transition when they start singing. In a "live action" movie where the animals are being depicted with realistic natural movements? its gonna look awkward.

I still don't see the point in this movie (hello to Eisner and his idea of remaking WDAS features as CGI features) but I will certainly change my mind if they include some Broadway songs (He Lives in You, Shadowland and Endless Night) and ideas.

And those issues weren't without a reason. They were simply the worst part of the movie (and yes, I know that I'm repeating myself, but it's a relevant comment).

But though I've never been too keen on the songs from the Broadway version, it's still nice that they will incorporate some songs from the stage show in the movie.

Beyonce makes sense considering she was Disney's choice for Aida in the now scrapped live-action version of that. I hope Disney decides to bring that back one day.

That would be the best option, but a lot of racism would be sadly brought up, not to mention the 90s babies complaining about "omg why aren't they lions muh childhood ruined" and honestly most of these remakes are pretty much too creatively bankrupt to think something like that...

They wouldn't want to directly adapt the stage show, nor could they get away with it. The stage show relies on puppets and seeing the sticks and puppeteers becomes part of the charm. That would just get laughed at in a movie setting. I'm thinking use other ways to evoke the idea of animal personalities and instincts.

And not to mention that she wanted the part for Tiana without even auditioning. But Beyonce has never done anything Disney, so perhaps now's the time for her to do so.

I've would've rather preferred the animated version that was scrapped. But oh well.

Same. 90s Disney could have pulled it off well but I wouldn't be interested in seeing it now in CGI. Not to mention Aida is closer in tone to Hunchback, Pocahontas, etc. rather than Frozen or Tangled so even ignoring the medium, I can't see it working well as an animated feature of today.

I just hope they don't add any Lin Manuel Miranda crap. His Moana stuff sounded like Hamilton Goes Polynesian. (Anyone remember Gidget Goes Hawaiian?)

Couldn't agree more. That's why I'd much prefer a live-action adaptation now over an animated one. It's odd we know so little about the animated Aida though. No concept art from that project was ever found. The only piece that's widely available is fan-made.

Agreed. It would've been interesting to see it in the 90's or even in the early 2000's.

I personally thought Frozen was just as serious in tone as Pocahontas and Hunchback. Though perhaps not as po-faced, but it have enough drama to be perceived as serious. Heck, there were some reviewers who complained about the unevenness between the comedy and the drama (which really was my concern with the movie in the first place).

No, it had nothing to do with that. It's said that Elton John didn't want to make another animated musical so soon after The Lion King and so Disney opted to adapt it into a stage production. Disney bought the rights to Leontyne Price's book in 1994 and by mid-1995, the project was already being reworked into a stage musical. So, it spent less than a year being developed as an animated feature.

Yes, that artwork was created by Ben Balistreri as part of a class assignment on character design.

OK. Those designs had a quite Disney-esque vibe to them (though they frankly seemed more suitable for an Disney animated series than for an animated feature).
