I was literally just about to reply with this sentiment! She'd be much more effective in that role. If it's that kind of actress they were going for, Idina Menzel would have worked better. Really Kristin Chenoweth is about the most wrong you could cast the role while still casting someone talented.

And a big to anyone insinuating that this version or the OUAT verison will be preferable to the Jolie version. Honestly I think those versions COMPLETELY missed the point, and while that argument could be made about the AJ version motivation-wise, they are at least getting the style and persona of the character correct.

I agree, Menzel could've been a better choice because she can pull off the role of someone with power and presence; Chenoweth, while a talented lady on her own right, doesn't have what it takes.

Heck, Kristin would even be a pretty good Aurora. Yes, she has a squeaky voice, but her soprano is gorgeous. Heck, even Rapunzel with the pixie hair as a wink that she was originally cast as her.

And she would have been a great Cruella! Or Yzma. Or Tinker Bell. Or Snow White. Or the Fairy Godmother. Or Fauna from Sleeping Beauty. Or the Blue Fairy.

Of all of these Disney roles that Kristin would be perfect for, Disney Channel somehow thought she would be great for the Mistress of all Evil.

And yes, Idina went into my mind. With the Frozen fame and her "Wicked" role and from what we heard from her as Evil Elsa, she would be a great villain. And better yet: WHY NOT LANA PARRILLA?! OMG, SHE WOULD BE SO PERFECT AS MALEFICENT. If I somehow read that Disney deliebary chose a Tinker Bell fairy over the evil Queen from OUAT for Maleficient....

Maybe the PR at Disney made a mistake - he said Kristin Chenoweth when he really meant Kristen Stewart. There are a ton of "Kristens" in Hollywood, after all...

OH PLEASE! The haters need to BACK OFF! Kristin is known for more bubbly roles but that's not ALL she's capable of. She's a Broadway veteran so she can definitely pull off an over the top and dramatic role like Maleficent.

Besides, we don't even know what kind of character Maleficent will be in this movie. Hint: Probably not like the animated version since it's a completely different world about the children of the villains for crying out loud. That's a ridiculous concept in and of itself so I don't know why anyone has any hope for this piece of shit in the first place. In fact, Kristin being a part of it actually gives me some hope that it might be decent. Can't WAIT to see her as Maleficent even if the writing will probably be ridiculous and character-ruining.

You know, I wasn't that interested in Descendants before. But now, I've got to see Kristin Chenoweth as Maleficent. That's not something you see every day. I think she could pull off a classic Maleficent, but Disney's probably going for something different by casting her. Either way, it should be interesting.

Could see Idina having a spot since her popularity at the moment and her awesome portrayal as Elphaba in Wicked. Although she does seem busy with If/Then

Is Hans going to be in it? I mean the Descendants sounds very fanfictiony to the point that Jack and Elsa babies could have cameos. Why would the High School Musical not consider Hans' babies to attract fangirls?

I don't think Frozen is even going to be in it. It's too recent, give it some time.

Dianne Doan (who was in Once Upon a Time) will be Mulan/Shang's daughter and Sarah Jeffery will be Aurora/Philip's daughter. Kathy Najimy will be the Evil Queen and Maz Jobrani will be Jafar. (Great choices for Jafar & the Evil Queen, why couldn't Maleficient be like this?)

Yeah, but it's also based on Disney characters and the Disney movies, so it's more than a DCOM. Different than what we have. So, that's why I'm posting updates, especially the casting.

I think a lot of the hype is also due to the bizarre premise that sounds like fanfiction. I'm hyped just to see how they handle it, and to laugh at it when it finally airs. Just the premise (and Kristen Chenowith as Maleficent) sounds "so bad that it's good". Plus, it's Disney Channel. Most of their TV movies are pure cheese, good or bad.

Unless it actually ends up mediocre or boring. Then I'll actually be very disappointed.
