And surely you look at this way too small and overly compressed shots on a properly calibrated monitor, right?

Just making sure that the top image is the Blu Ray and the bottom is the DVD
If the above is correct, The Blu Ray is very bright and clear while the DVD looks to be a bit foggy to me.
Again, this is assuming that the top is the blu ray while the bottom is the DVD

To reiterate, the top image IS the Blu-ray and the bottom image is the DVD.

I'm a a great fan of this classic film , and I'm really looking forward to seeing the differences in picture quality from the DVD wrought by the clever technicians at Disney when I buy my copy of the Blu Ray on Monday!
Twenty five years ago I had the wonderful experience of looking at the archives at Disney Studios when I accompanied my friend Brian Sibley on a trip to the Studios when he delivered the draft screenplay Mary Poppins Comes Back an as yet unfilmed sequel to the original movie!

You know Brian Sibley personally!?

That's impressive!

it looks like original audio in UK edition will be a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track rather than DTS
master audio 7.1 in the US
Does anyone know for sure?
Also the US release has the theatrical audio I believe.

Where did you get that from? The packaging says DTS-HD HR 5.1, which isn't lossless, but it is still a thousand times better than Dolby Digital 5.1. I doubt anyone without a very good ear and a multiple thousand dollar expensive surround system would even hear a difference between a DTS-HD MA and HR track from the same source.
That being said, I'm not sure the information on the packaging is even correct. I can't see why Disney would use a 5.1-track on European releases, when there is a 7.1-track. They only did this once with Peter Pan and that one was released much earlier in Europe, probably before the 7.1-track was ready.

I have to make a correction. The UK bluray is now out and the audio in that release is DTS-HD 5.1 rather than the 7.1 the US will get.
Sad but true they did not use the same track for the two releases

Just a heads up that the Amazon price went down to $24.99, so if you ordered with the coupon your total should be $19.99!

There was an Amazon-exclusive coupon that was available with the pre-order for the first few weeks it was available for purchase. I'm not aware of any current coupons offers.
In slightly related news, I read that the movie comes with movie money towards Saving Mr Banks through DMR, but I'm not sure if that's all copies or select vendors.

I know it's been confirmed that the Blu-ray restores the original Buena Vista logo, but can anyone verify if the DVD included has the Buena Vista logo as well?

I scored my copy of Mary Poppins 50th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray/DVD, Digital Copy pak for $16.99 at Tradepost Entertainment. With stores all over and very inexpensive p&h costs, you might think about saving money and looking into what Tradepost has to offer.
