The Diamond collection is dead in half of Europe though. :)
and after Peter Pan, in the other half of Europe we can throw all previous editions in the trash, it no longer makes any sense

It's not according to Disney Germany.

Really? I thought it was just in France who dropped the line after Snow White. Do you know which European countries don't have the Diamond line?
In France, The Lion King and other editions from Diamond line after TLK have a new label - chef-d'oeuvre

and in Italy, for example, all editions are "special" - "Edicione Speciale"

It doesn't matter how they are labelled in some countries. Until now, the blu-rays itself were exactly the same, except for the language options. With Peter Pan, I expect this to change. I think, in Europe we won't get new features, probably not even Disney View. And the menu will most likely be static.

I guess, I'll buy the German blu-ray and import the US set in addition, as soon as possible.

Hmmm, why is Lady and the Tramp getting re-released? (Susi und Strolch - Diamond Edition (2012) - Single Edition [Blu-ray] | 24.01.2013) Is it just losing the DVD copy?

Anyway, I don't really care what edition Aladdin is, I just want it released early next year. If it is a Diamond Edition in Europe and not the US, it will be interesting to see what Australia will get. We seem to have a mix of both markets - double packs for FATH and Pocahontas like the US, but also a 101 Dalmatians release like Europe.

maybe Aladdin will get a fall release in the Diamond Collection (not next year and with a 3D conversion) to be just like the releases of The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King, since these films formed the new golden age of the studio and three of them get a similar treatment in the collection

But both in the Finnish and the German trailer for the Aladdin Blu-ray, it's not referred to as a Diamond edition.

Lets make Aladdin a Diamond release

Nah it's didn't sell too good back in 2005

But that was seven years ago, lets make it Diamond..

Peter Pan sold more ! It would be unfair for the Peter Pan fans !

Nah but Aladdin is getting it's fanbase back, make it Diamond.

Peter Pan !

Aladdin !

Peter Pan !

Aladdin !

Lets make it Peter Pan it would sell better because of the kids show.

Okay, lets make it Peter Pan then and Aladdin just a release...

Peter Pan Diamond 2013 !

You know we should make Aladdin a Diamond as well..

I guess you could say the Aladdin Diamond release has had the rug pulled from under it :)

Maybe they took a vote on which movie had the better song about flying and Peter Pan won out?

This is probably just wishfull thinking but after seeing the Peter Pan cover and how tasteful it was done, I wonder if they delayed Aladdin to up their game in the presentation department. Actually putting some effort into the cover art, disk art, extras, transfer etc again.

Edit: Just watched the trailer, pretty well put together I'd say. Why is it that the best trailers for other parts of the world?

Sorry to nitpick, but it was released in 2004. And how do you know that it didn't sold so well?

I'm not sure where you can find the actual sales figures (they are floating around on here as well), but Aladdin did undersell quite massively compared to the other Platinums.

I have seen a recent argument on here saying it was partly due to it being massively under-promoted in the US; almost to the point of being ignored.

massively under-promoted is really pushing it. Who is making this claim? There were trailers, TV spots, a Boxed Set. From what I recall it received the exact same treatment as the previous Platinum Editions.

The only difference was that it did not get an IMAX re-release, ironically, because The Lion King in IMAX underperformed. But with TLK's recent explosively successful re-release, they might give it another shot.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were prepping it for a 2014 3D re-release.
