				This isn't the
Monster's University thread...

@Duster: I know a lot of people don't like Merida's design, but even if she is ugly (to them) that doesn't negate the queen's bland design.
@FHanger: That meet-and-greet costume
is adorable! If I had a little girl, I'd totally be buying some of those dresses though...especially the dark teale one. Whenever I do have a child, it'll really be a shame if they hate Disney.

Got pics I took while watching the Cupcake Champions Brave episode last night!
First, the winning entry of the third and final round!

Pic of it during work-in-progress stage:

Pic of it with the show host Justin Willman (in a kilt) and the judges:

It won against this entry in the final round:

Pic of second placed entry of the final round with Justin Willman and judges:

Close-up pics of detail:

Ladies standing with their final round entries:

Adorable cupcakes from round two made by that blond lady up there who lost in the final round:

I want to add: in round one, one group had to include mutton in their cupcakes, another group had to include oats in their cupcakes, and two groups had to include whiskey in their cupcakes. A person from each group had to shoot an arrow at a target that has rings labeled with ingredients to get their special ingredient they have to work into their round one cupcakes.

Is anyone else kind of bothered by all the fans saying Merida is too ugly to be a Disney princess?

I say that she isn't ugly but I think she looks unique as a Disney Princess. In fact that makes me love her even more.

Yeah, I think it is really unfair; ugly is such a mean word, anyway. I think some people are calling her so simply because she's so stylised. She may not fit the standard princess beauty quota as described in the Disney Princess Bill of 1937, but that's really because Merida, like all the characters who inhabit the world of
Brave, is caricatured to fit into a particularly stylised world. She would look out of place in
Tangled, but likewise Rapunzel would look out of place in
Brave. In short, I think that Merida is beautiful in her own unique way.
I really do agree that she shouldn't become an official Disney Princess, though. The main reason is that she isn't a WDAS character in the first place, but I think we can all agree that Merida wouldn't fit in with the pink, fluffy world of the Disney Princess brand without sapping her completely of her personality. It's bad enough having the likes of Ariel and Belle becoming Stepford wives, let alone a feisty teenager from feudal Scotland. Overall, though, I would say that the marketing and merchandise so far have been quite good. Whether the film becomes a hit obviously has yet to be determined, but the marketing doesn't seem to pander too much to certain demographics. Shame that
Tangled and
The Princess and the Frog weren't given the same treatment...

Erm, excuse me? I do not appreciate being called a jerk when I'm certainly not one; it's quite frankly insulting. What I wrote was simply meant to be a satirical take on the "original/unoriginal" arguments going on. Nothing intentionally mean or spiteful, as far as I'm concerned anyway. Are you looking to cause arguments? Seriously, behave yourself and don't be so needlessly reactionary.

Wondy said it best: Merida is not "ugly", she is simply not designed to be the idealized fairy tale princess the Disney Princesses embody in their own franchise. This is a different type of story, one that is darker than what we have come to expect, so of course Merida looks differently from the other characters.

I'm not finding her ugly at all, but I think I'd have preferred to see her design done as hand-drawn, like we've seen with some of the clip art. But that's just my personal preference.

Yes, she does looks better hand-drawn. Have you seen any 'Brave'
coloring pages? Definitely an improvement on both Merida and Elinor. They look better in hand-drawn clip-art and storybook illustrations as well.

Ooh, thanks for the link!

I glanced through some of the books (including a coloring book) while I was at Target the other day but didn't pick anything up yet.

^I like those storybooks with stylized art ala Little Golden Book. I haven't bought any storybooks either though since I'm saving up to get "The Art of Brave".
In case anyone's interested:
Disney/Pixar wrote:Brave co-director Steve Purcell will be at @E3Expo. Send your questions using #BraveE3 and look out for a video response later this week.

Also
Subway is promoting Brave and offering some sort of Brave-related gifts.

I like those too! I'm just waiting until the movie comes out before I decide to pick up anything.
