I'm excited about this release! TLM is the first Disney movie I ever seen in a theater...or seen anywhere for that matter. I was 7 when it was released and then I went back in 1997 to see it again. So looking forward to seeing it in 3D in 2013!! Third time's a charm!

"Retail sources also tell us that Disney is planning on releasing The Little Mermaid as a 2D and 3D Diamond Edition on Blu-ray sometime late this summer, following a planned theatrical re-issue in 3D."

I never thought I'd live to see Disney actually make amazing cover art again.

Before I get too excited, is it a reliable site? It's just odd Disney would use a 15-year old cover for such a big release - but don't get me wrong, I'm all for it, it's a stunning picture!

I've always loved this poster so I would be perfectly fine with Disney using it for the cover but I'm wondering if it's more likely a placeholder for the final cover, it seems quite early for Disney to release the cover.
Regardless I am so excited to not just finally be able to own my all time favourite movie on Blu-Ray but also the fact I get to see it back in theatres!
I hope there will be some decent new content in this release unlike
Cinderella!

Very curious about the restoration. It must have been a big one, seeing as how the 2006 restoration sucked and this had to also be converted to 3D.
The previous dvd had grain and all kinds of flaws.

I wouldn't get too attached to that cover as it is. Horrible clip-art of Flounder and Sebastian pasted in there can't be TOO far off...

To me, a new restoration is the most important thing!

Unless you want missing/overthinned linework the grain has to stay.

Splendid preliminary cover artwork bound to be altered along the way

As far as the restoration goes, it can hardly be worse than what was given to us in previous outings

Wasn't it confirmed to be fanmade cover art, like months ago?
I doubt the cover art would be 'released' almost a year in advance.

Is
The Little Mermaid coming out on DVD/Blu-Ray before it’s released theatrically?

I didn’t keep up with B&tB's and TLK's Diamond releases, so I don’t know if that’s how it went down with those. If so, that's really...strange. If not, how could the Diamond be getting released this summer "following a planned theatrical re-issue," if it's going to be in theaters in the Fall?
I probably have a detail off somewhere.

It's not far fetched to think we should be seeing cover art soon.
Lady and the Tramp was released 2/7/2012 and included Cinderella's Diamond cover. Judging by Disney's past it's completely reasonable to think that the cover art will be released in just 1 month in Peter Pan's Diamond Edition.
[I'm not convinced that's the cover btw, but I would LOVE it if it were.]

....yeah, I can vouch that the cover is fanmade...since I made it.
I actually posted it on this forum a while back in Milo's Custom Covers thread. I also posted them on my tumblr. That must be where it got picked up from.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news (Though I appreciate the compliments)
Here is the other one I did using the platinum cover Ariel and the original theatrical poster versions of Flounder and Sebastian...

Although I like the teaser poster artwork, that art would never pass the Marketing department because it veils the main character. It is not obvious from the packaging what the movie is about or who is in it.
Your second cover is more like something we will see. Primary characters very prominent on the cover so that you know exactly which movie it is, even if you can't read.

DancingCrab, those covers are amazing! The second one is absolutely beautiful. I bet the official cover would suck compared to these.

I do love how there was a tiny bit of news about the upcoming release, and people go post - mad with excitement for it ...
Power of the little red-haired mermaid is still strong

As long as we're posting fake covers, here are fan-made French ones:

Wow, really love the third ... something like that would be beautiful!
I think there may be hope for Mermaid's cover, judging by how gorgeous the Peter Pan Diamond is for the US.
