Thank you, Luke, that's exactly my point. DVD is a huge upgrade from VHS. From DVD to Blu, however, is not as noticeable a difference. DVDs used to have all of the wonderful bonus features, and now they usually have very little thanks to Blu-Ray. Call me unsophisticated if you like, but my Disney movies are my simple pleasures in life. I don't need to see them in 1080p to see how beautiful and special they are, and I am very satisfied with DVD quality. Now all I need is a decent making-of and an audio commentary, and I'll be very happy.
To say there is no noticeable difference between DVD to Blu-Ray is really ignorant. I'm sorry you are either blind or just in denial! I am not trying to be a dick either. Blu-Ray is the new medium, and people just need to get over it! No one is forcing you to buy DVDs, and no one is forcing you to buy Blu-Rays either. I remember people were moaning and bitching when VHS was slowing dying to DVDs, and here we are again x amount of years later with the same argument! Times are changing, and so is technology, if you can't keep up with it, it just suck for you. Disney is smart for when they are doing. Yes I am the consumer, I make the decisions, and to spend a few extra $$ on getting the Blu which comes with the DVD too is just the best way to go.

Lordy, lordy, I wish Santa would give everyone a bonus so we can all upgrade to Blu and end the versus debates once and for all. :(

And, yes, I am taking a mini-step forward this Christmas with a new PS3 (after 2 years of asking). I’ll no longer be buying DVD. Commence the snobby classism. Sorry, other poor people, I am above you now. :)

I'm excited that the release will contain the theatrical teasers. When was the last time a new Disney movie came with its own trailer on DVD? I don't want to have to put in a Blu-Ray or DVD for Movie N to see the trailer for Movie W. And the trailers are the easiest bonus feature to include, especially since Disney loves including trailers of *other* movies on releases. Dump those and give me the trailers for the movie on the disc. Then I'll be happy.

Way to twist Margos' words. When did she ever say there was no noticeable difference between DVD and Blu-Ray? She said there isn't *as* noticeable a difference between the two as there is between DVD and VHS. And she's absolutely right.

You can buy a good blu-ray player for $65 at Wal-Mart. (well at least mine has been selling an LG one for weeks now).

There's no reason not to upgrade now, but if you have a standard TV, you won't see much of a difference. So I do understand the thinking of, I'll buy a blu-ray player or PS3 when I save up enough for a decent LCD/LED television. But yes, there really is a huge difference in quality from DVD to blu-ray - particularly with animation.

Upgrading at this point honestly has nothing to do with how noticeable the difference in quality is. At this point, it's time to upgrade simply because that's the way it is. Like I said before, Disney is not going to start backpedaling and putting more bonus features on DVD again. It's just not going to happen.

So, the simple truth is this: if you want bonus features, then upgrade. If you don't care, then stay in the past with DVD. But the rest of the world is moving on now. That's just how it is, whether any of us like it, agree with it, or see any difference in the two options. What WE want doesn't matter in the slightest. The behemoth that is The Walt Disney Company are making more money doing it this way, and so for the foreseeable future, that's the way it's gonna be. End of story.

‘Tangled’ 3D Blu-Ray Tops Amazon.com Sales Charts with Release Date Unknown
http://www.stitchkingdom.com/disney-new ... ease-date/

Although no official release date has been announced, the 4-disc edition of Disney’s Tangled is dominating the Amazon.com blu-ray sales charts in the #2 position, bested only by Inception. Across all formats, it’s also second only to Toy Story 3.

umm... in terms of the menu features, chapter selection, bonus feature sections, etc DVD was a larger step from VHS than DVD is to Blu-ray in that regards. The fact that we went from analog tape to a digital disc is a large jump in of itself.

No need to be so hostile toward those who dislike Blu-ray. Whether or not the improvement is enough for them is all that matters. The improvement in audio and picture was why I upgraded to Blu-ray. Doesn't mean everyone is going to find that improvement worth the money for them.

For those of you buying the Blu-ray edition of the film: will you be buying the standard Blu-ray or the 3D Blu-ray set?

I'd be especially interested in knowing if anyone WITHOUT plans to get a 3D TV anytime soon will be buying the 3D set "just in case."

I haven't decided which one I am going to get yet, but I honestly don't think I'd ever own a 3D TV unless they somehow become the new standard (meaning all TV's came with 3D capability). I saw Tangled in 3D at the theater and honestly didn't really feel that it was necessary for my enjoyment of the film. Still, there is the part of me that thinks I should just get the 3D copy of Tangled just so I have all the bases covered.

standard blu-ray. I don't plan on getting a 3D TV at all. I get a headache after seeing the movies in 3D anyway so I don't think I'm missing anything by not watching it in 3D. Standard Blu-ray is more than enough for me.

Standard Blu-ray combo pack. I really don't want to spend a lot of money just to watch 3D at home when I can just go to a movie theater to do that.

I haven't decided...but I THINK I am just going with the blu/dvd. 3D home entertainment is still a ways off before going main stream and I am convinced they will rerelease a much more snazzy edition of 3D Tangled by the time I ever can afford to upgrade to a new tv.

3D Combo Pack. And the reason is at some point in 5 - 6 years I might invest into a 3D TV however would I buy one right now if someone gave me the money for it....heck no....my big thing is you can't use sony's glasses on a samsung 3DTV or visa versa....also my dad got a 52 inch Pioneer big screen tv and honestly i'm fine with it...but just in case the 3D Blu ray does work out the kinks and also I would wait fot he price to go down. The main reason besides that is it has a Digital copy which I do like having on my Itunes...which I value I'm just frustrated how Disney's digital copies basicly become coasters for a drink compared to how Warner Brothers has the DVD and the Digital copy on the same disc on a good majority of their releases which make me question why the heck can't disney or other studios do that...I mean they wanna go green and all but you get the drift. Plus I got it pre-ordered for $21.99 plus free shipping on amazon with their $8 coupon. :D

I'm getting the 3D set, even though I don't have a 3D tv; it's just so incredibly cheap on amazon, why the heck not? Maybe someday I'll get the right setup to watch the 3D version; if not, eh, whatever.

I am not being hostile, it might seem like that, but I am just being honest! How long are people going to complain about it? It's not the end of the world, and Blu-Ray has now been around for a while to merit itself as the BEST medium for watching movies. How many years are people going to complain that they didn't get what they wanted on their DVD when you spend maybe 5 dollars max to the the features on Blu with better quality, sound, and even digital copy, and oh yeah a DVD just in-case you still don't have the Blu-Ray player you keep lying to yourself you wont get, but will eventually get. If these features are so dam important to someone, that needs their fix for extra features they will shut, up and shell out the extra few bucks, if not, then people need to shut up, don't buy the DVD or Blu-Ray! End of story.

Is it "THE BEST?" How about in ten years from now, when you're going on and on about how "Griin-Ray" is "THE BEST," because it's got smell-o-vision and 5000p definition? Look, I'm not saying that DVDs are the best. I'm just saying that they are good enough. I am not going to re-buy movies that I've already spent money on in a completely different format. To ensure uniformity, I also will not buy new movies in this completely different format. I say let the definition fanboys have their fun, blu-ray has its place in the market. But there are plenty of us who still see DVD as viable and reliable. Not too fancy, mind you, but certainly satisfactory. I just feel that BVHE ought to recognize this fact, and should try to persuade the highest number of customers to buy their products. Sure, there are people who want Blu-Ray, but for those of us who want DVD, it is entirely unfair to skimp on bonus features that exist and would easily fit onto the lesser format.

So what happens to your uniformity in five years when Disney uses only the blu-ray combo packs, and is no longer releasing DVDs on their own?

I'll be getting the standard version. I don't plan on ever investing in a 3-D television set and I'm fine with my 2-D Blu-Ray player.

To be honest, I thought the Blu-Ray for Up did an excellent job of giving the same 3-D vibe I got from watching Up on its theatrical release.
