Benjamin Button, Zodiac and The Social Network all have a lot of CG shots that you couldn't pick out unless you knew how they were done, so Fincher would definitely be the right man for the project. I'm glad this project wasn't shelved. Disney's version was good, but it's pretty obvious that David Fincher would take this in a completely different direction. One of the few remakes (if you want to call it that) I'm looking out for.

Unfortunately, as late as 2011, the Finnish Broadcasting Company (Yleisradio) aired an ugly pan&scan print of this trailblazing CinemaScope treat. Here's what the Finnish people were forced to watch, with corresponding screenshots from the Special Edition DVD:

Hollywood executives are reportedly on the cusp of signing a deal with the federal government that will see the biggest blockbuster ever to be made in Australia, a mega-production remake of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo.

And with Brad Pitt keenly sought to play the lead role of Ned Land, according to industry sources, the deal may see Pitt, his wife Angelina Jolie and their children relocate to Australia.

I really don't care about a remake. I just want the original on Blu-Ray.

Disney has brought their 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea project back, now with James Mangold directing.

Interesting enough, Bryan Singer is directing his own 20,000 Leagues adaptation at 20th Century Fox. I guess Disney decided to revive their version, possibly to beat them to the punch. Although it's funny how both Singer and Mangold are currently working on new X-Men movies right now, too (Singer with this year's Apocalypse and Mangold on the next Wolverine).

The project's still on track for some reason. If this ever gets made, I predict it'll be a big flop for Disney à la John Carter or The Lone Ranger.

The 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea project Bailey was going to produce is now called Captain Nemo, and Logan helmer James Mangold is attached to direct it.

HN Entertainment has learned from a source that the studio’s remake of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is back in active development despite some radio silence of late, while it’s currently uncertain if Logan director James Mangold (who took over for David Fincher) is still attached for the Jules Verne adaptation.
