Speaking of Limpet....

I always thought the fish who almost gets caught at the beginning of The Little Mermaid looked alot like Limpet.

Not a rip-off, but an homage, maybe?

You can see him in Under The Sea.

I understand what you're saying pap64, but when the makers of those cheap films deliberately make the DVD cover similar to the cover of a Disney film (even though the film itself may be different) that is most definitely a rip-off.

Actually,I have seen this movie before and it's a rip-off,they called the mermaid Ariel (I"m not kidding),the witch Ursula and the prince's name might be Eric but I"m not sure, and there's a dolphin *very* similar to Flounder.

I've also seen it, and that's not true.

I have seen on TV and they ripped-off the names.
Edit:In what language have you seen it? because I"ve seen it in Hebrew and they ripped-off the names.

Ariel's Prince is obviously the biggest cheap Disney rip-off. He's just ripping-off Prince Eric.

I won't argue that logic. Here's an update on it...

Cheap movies with original covers: Cash in

Cheap movies with cover artwork that rips off the original cover: Rip off

I know. That caption made me laugh to. XD

Goodtimes is a horrid media company.

That caption was just pathetic. I remember owning another animated TLM besides the Disney version.

I own the Goodtimes' TLM and it's really stupid. But I don't think it's a rip-off of Disney really. The only thing they have in common is the happy ending. And, to be honest, that's what you should expect from any children's re-telling of the HCA version.

A couple days ago, I was really bored, and this thread inspired me to watch some clips of the Goodtimes films on YouTube. What I watched was laughably bad...one member posted a bunch of songs from the various films. It was obvious that the movies were rushed- their version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame has a song about Esmeralda, and the animation was obviously rushed- the whole song, besides a flashback or two, is Esmeralda dancing in front of a background. Ugh. And some of the lyrics in the songs of those movies. Just horrible.

The mall used to have Kay-Bee Toys. Kay-Bee Toys went out of business. In its place is a store called...wait for it...TOYS. Yes, a toy store called Toys. It, in and of itself, is a rip-off of Kay-Bee Toys. A LOT of the merchandise there was rip-off merchandise. Some examples:

Look at the Toy Story 3 logo. Look at Buzz (I wish there wasn't a glare). Obviously look at the princess (fake Ariel has purple eyes, fake Belle has blue eyes, and fake Cindy has long hair). The princess playset uses Disney's font and Cinderella's font. Lightning McQueen's hood says "Rush at". the fake Wall-e and fake Cars toys are just poor, just like Buzz. There is no mention of Disney or Pixar on these- they are as fake as fake can be. How can companies get away with this? Honestly, isn't there anything Disney can do to take action? Not only is it taking money out of Disney's pocket, people will associate Disney with crap. :(

well, the names and characters are trademarked so they should be able to get them there! I think that it's just really hard for Disney to keep up with everyone who does this. Maybe you should actually try to send these pics to Disney themselves.

That's really good advice- I just used DCP's "Contact Us" form on their website, and I pasted the link to this thread, so they can see the different things mentioned. I hope that there's something Disney can do, but it's likely that they know that this goes on. Maybe they think that it'll be a waste of money because, once they close down one company, another will pop right up and make fake Disney toys or movies. :(

I simply don't understand the thinking behind cheap rip-offs like those that have been recently posted. I mean, do those people have any pride in their own work?

All these rip-off companies are doing is more harm to the environment. I'd like to see all of them shut down. I guess those rip-off toys are coming from China no doubt.
