First of all, I want to apologize for bumping this thread without having a legitimate "update".

I just wanted to inquire, since I refuse to buy a bootleg of any type no matter how well done, what I can do to voice my opinion to Disney about releasing this title officially. I have signed many petitions. I guess I'm looking for a specific address that I could send a written letter to - not an email. I'm sure I could find a "standard" mailing address for Disney, but is there a more specific department name or specialized address that anyone knows about?

Thanks so much. I really just want to add this movie to my collection and share it with my kids. Going to Splash Mountain once every 1-2 years just doesn't cut it. I don't agree with the basis behind Disney's decision not to release it (it is a period piece IMO), and my family is part of the "target" base they would supposedly be offending.

EDIT: After thinking about it for 1/2 hour, I realized I'm going straight to the top. I wrote Bob Iger a letter and found his address online.

Not to be a negative nelly here, but doesn't Iger know that this movie needs to be released as they recently sat down and watched it again when he took over. The problem is how do they go about doing this, giving it a proper release w/o getting negative reactions from different groups. The obvious solution is to include it in the WDT series w/So Dear to My Heart, but they aren't looking towards that. You would think that if WB can release the LT series that releasing SotS wouldn't be hard, but for some reason they can't seem to work this out. I'm just saying that Iger and the Disney Co want to release this movie, but they just don't know how to do it. I think we need to write to him possibly w/suggestions, or at least let Maltin do the talking on our behalf.

I read an article that suggested to make a featurette about how African-Americans have played a big part on Disney's development as a beloved company and fine provider of great entertainment. For example, include the short "John Henry" as an extra, sneak peeks at 'The Frog Princess', make a feature about Disney Channel's young black stars (like Raven Symone and Kyle Massey), so on and so forth. Show the public that Disney, along with society, has evolved and see African-Americans as a vital part of our nation and that the movie is just a representation of a forgotten time, not the reality.

I think the featurette is a great idea! I hope they realize that it needs to be released, unfortunately I can't see why it would take so much time to make it happen. What are they waiting for? Blue Moon #227?

I hope he reads my letter. Most likely it will be put into a file with all the other letters requesting Song of the South's release. Sigh.

I saw the movie a few days ago and while it does have some sensitive moments it ain't that bad. In fact, most modern movies are worse, with the N word being used like it was going out of style (I'm looking at you, Boondocks!).

Disney CAN release it. They just need to treat it and its audience with the respect it deserves. Like its been said, having featurettes about Black history, many warnings by Leonard Maltin, focus more on the light hearted aspects than the racial history, so on and so forth.

It CAN be done they just need to plan it very well.
