Aaaah. Blu-Ray. Now if only the prices on players and full HD TVs were a bit cheaper. And most importantly, if only I had somewhere to put them.

Same here. I'm surprised I had never bought it on video as a kid, and I didn't have a DVD player when they released the Gold Collection edition. In fact, I'm surprised that Disney has waited so long to re-release it again. Seems like that and Fantasia haven't been out of the vault in like seven to eight years.

Oh yes, I definitely look forward to the Pinocchio PE. I have a VHS-tape, but it doesn't have any extras and I would love to see features on ' The making of' and design etc. I hope they won't stuff the DVD with childish games and a 'hip' pop-version of 'When you wish upon a star' or suchlike

I liked Jimminy Cricket but I think that Pinocchio is most boring Disney movie ever.

lol to each his own I guess. Pinocchio is as good as it gets when it comes to classic Disney in my opinion.

I've only seen the film once myself, and I thought it was rather strange. Overall, I didn't care too much for it, outside of "When You Wish Upon A Star". However, as I have stated many, many times - the Platinum Edition line has a tendency to make all of the films really shine. I have grown to love/respect some of the Platinum Edition Disney titles more than I did before, through watching the bonus features and learning more about the story and the making of the film. With that said I am really excited for Pinocchio's Platinum Edition debut, because I'm looking forward to giving it another once over and watching to bonus features. Maybe then I'll see what all the hype is about.

Pinocchio is probably Disney's best film. The animation still is probably the most impressive the studio has ever done(waaaaaaaay better than Sleeping Beauty), the plot, voice-work, messages still hold up 68 years later and represent Disney at it's finest. And who can't love the music?
I don't see how anyone can sit through the same boring princess story over and over again and not find some brilliance in Pinocchio.

I can certainly understand T/P Fan and Patrick's point of view about Pinocchio. It does stuff that no Disney film has ever done since. Although not a fairytale as such, it captures the feel of the threat and jeopardy of classic Grimms' fairytales in a way that none of Disney's animated fairytales ever has.
It has a wonderful darkness that... hold on, I'm going to underline that I feel it so strongly... it has a wonderful darkness about it that I can't help but feel is missing from modern day Disney (and the detriment of today's children's having a fully rounded emotional development). But… and it's a big but… I don't actually like the film.
Mainly because I don't like Pinocchio himself. For everyone who hated Chicken Little, I bet I hate Pinocchio to the same extent. And it's hard to like a film when you just want to slap some sense into the main character. Yes, I know that's the point of the story… Pinocchio learns. But sorry, it just doesn't work for me.
Still, the supporting characters… especially the villains are well realised. The animation has the same "feel" as Snow White, but is undoubtedly superior. There's plenty for people to admire and enjoy. I just wish Pinocchio himself was more likeable.

2099net: For a wooden boy, Ponoke is plenty likable! It is part of the plot for Pinocchio to be strugging between being good and being bad, and since he is made of wood, I think having a somewhat flat personality kind of goes with the territory! Personally, I think the personality they gave Pinocchio is a perfect fit for the story.

Simba3-I also don't care about it exept the character of Jimminy Cricket,it's pretty boring and the plot is just not moving.
The animation isn't good,it's just a story about a puppet that learn in the hard way that he should go to school,it's pretty boring.
And no,there's nothing boring about Princess films.

That makes no sense since "Snow White" and "Fantasia" already have a mass amount of bonus features that were released here in the U.S.
"Pinocchio" only has the trailer (I think) and it needs a definite upgrade more that "Snow White" or "Fantasia" does.

Well if you put it that way ANY story can sound ridiculous, you may just have to look back into that and give it another chance; in my opinion Pinnochio is one of the best things to ever come out of The Walt Disney Company in any way you want to judge it;the animation could even be compared to some of the later animated classics and the story is amazingly entertaining...but as we all have learned on this forums, we can't always agree on everything.

I'm not even sure if I've seen Pinocchio throughout, but I'm sure I have. I remember almost nothing, except the whale scene, and even that's a scarce memory.

I'm guessing Ariel's prince hasn't seen Pinocchio in a long time because it really is a wonderful film.

Either that or else she hasn't seen enough other films with which to compare.
"Pinocchio" is nothing less than excellent.

Well, I personally don't care for "When You Wish Upon A Star". It's a nice song and all, but can be painfully boring to listen to at times (which is why I always skip it whenever I watch
Pinocchio). The many covers out there of that song are equally depressing, though the only one I can really stomach is the version in "Wishes" at Magic Kingdom. Mainly because repeated listenings/viewings have embedded it in my brain as the version I'd prefer to listen to if trapped in a room with only one song that played over and over again.
netty wrote:I just wish Pinocchio himself was more likeable.
The problem with Pinoke, IMO, is that throughout most of the movie he comes off as too much of a dumb sheep being led around by whoever has control over him. He's a nice guy, really, but is too easily swayed by whoever becomes the self-imposed authority figure over him. It's only when he learns Gepetto is missing that he finally shows some balls and makes a decision on his own (to find Gepetto), even considering leaving Jiminy behind.
Jules wrote:Sprince wrote:The animation isn't good.

Because there aren't any dancing princesses.
Sprince wrote:it's just a story about a puppet that learn in the hard way that he should go to school.
Dear lord, are you sh!tting me? "A puppet that learns the hard way that he should go to school?" When was the last time you actually saw
Pinocchio? It is so much more - and I'm going to copy netty and underline -
so much more than a boy that learns he should go to school. It's about the eternal struggles between right and wrong, the value of honesty, timeless themes of sacrifice, loneliness, and humanity, and the all-important examples that show smoking, hooky, and talking to strangers as being great big no-no's.
A puppet that learns he should go to school is the LEAST of Pinoke's worries!
T-SoD wrote:"Pinocchio" only has the trailer (I think)
You think correctly regarding the R1 release, but forgot to include "Film Recommendations", a couple of useless menu screens that pimp out the other 8 titles in the Limited Issue series.
I have a feeling that the
Pinocchio Platinum Edition won't be brimming with features the way that
Snow White,
Fantasia, and
Aladdin have. If anything, it'll likely follow the recent Platinums pattern and just have a 30-40 minute documentary, two related featurettes (perhaps a serious one on Collodi and a fluffy one Jiminy Cricket), art galleries (the laserdisc had a LOT of stills), a ton of useless and silly games, and a music video made simply to piss off people who like music. And if we're lucky, the trailers. And if we're really really lucky, a commentary track.

As is the case with most of Ariel'sprinces posts, he seems to post just about anything to seem to "Agree with everyone else."
Unless, of course, it's the endless discussion of "Is Aurora a damsel in distress or herione?"
(Which, for the record, is the latter.

When I watch a movie, I like to see it from beginning to end
without any interruptions or irregularities that mess up the natural flow of the film. If possible, I also like to view the end credits till the very last frame of film is elapsed.

Pinocchio > Anything else Disney has ever done or will ever do.
That being said it isn't my favorite Disney movie. It's near the top, but not number one. But you personally liking something is different than recognizing it's greatness. For example I hate Picasso paintings, but I know that they are amazing regardless of how much I despise them. Just like I know Atlantis: the Lost Empire is a terrible movie despite my love for it.
