They canceled it because it was too much of a departure from the movie? That's never stopped them before!

Yeah, thought this series seems too much departure.
I don't understand why they wanted to kick out Duchess and O'Malley from the series

and why they're walking on 2 feets? i don't like this desgin and the new characters.

All of the sudden I find myself a billion times more thankful for John Lassater. Bless that man!
The whole concept for that show is completely off. The Aristocats takes place in 1910! There is no way that any of those cats would have acted/looked/dressed the way they were.
Now as for the sequel, something along the lines of the kittens being older and then a whole new situation arising, maybe Delancy trying to court her and making a sort of Romeo and Juliet storyline out of it , but with no death, could've been interesting. I bet the concept was a lot more like the show though....
I think that jimhillmedia has a point though, this would have been great material to put on this special edition. Especially since now I'm very curious.

Agreed,i also didn't liked them acting like humans.
What was the sequel about?.
And there were other deleted sequels exept Chicken Little 2 (i wonder what was that about),Hercules II,Meet the Robinsons 2,Snow White II and Dumbo 2? i also heard a rumor about a Sleeping Beauty sequel but maybe they were talking about Enchanted Tales.

I'm pretty sure that Hercules II ended up just being a rumor, and Snow White II was also a rumor but because of it a lot of fans sent a lot of hate mail towards disney, which reinforced the bad idea. I did hear once that Disney was concidering a Dwarf franchise and that they would create a sort of prequel to the original film explaining how the dwarfs found each other and all of their background stories. Possibly even telling us why and how they got their names. I would've actually backed up this idea!
Dumbo 2 by far got the futherest into production before being canceled and in my opninon should have definately been a prominent special feature on Dumbo's Big Top Edition.
I'm willing to bet that Chicken Little 2 and Meet the Robinsons 2 didn't get much farther than some concept art and a basic script before being canned.
I'm also pretty sure that a Sleeping Beauty sequel was just a rumor as well. I think this would've made some big news.
All of this would be interesting to see as special features on future releases though.

I also heard about the Disney Dwarfs franchise and i hope that the franchise will be out

i also heard of a Disney Mermaids franchise, and i"m happy that Snow White II was cancelled.
I also think those were rumores and i think that Enchanted Tales was mistaken for the Sleeping Beauty sequel.

Thanks for posting that link, Pasta67! The screencaps comparing the two releases in the UD review aren't nearly as different as the ones in the DVD Talk review- the second set of comparison shots in the DVD Talk review shows how hugely much is cut off on the new widescreen DVD! I can't even believe how much is cut off. Granted, it's not like a cat got cut off, but, if next to Duchess there were a cat, instead of that chimney pipe, then that cat would've had his or her head cut off! I'm very glad that I'm keeping my Gold Collection disc and not buying the new edition...

Admittedly, a bit is lost, but I much prefer the overall picture quality on the new release. Much sharper.

Fascinating stuff about that Aristocats TV show that thankfully didn't happen. They could have made a fine series that didn't change anything from the film, but I guess that wouldn't be hip enough for today's kids...
I thought this idea looked a lot like the 101 Dalmatians series, though even more of a departure of course. Considering how long it took me to adjust to the slight changes of the 101 Dalmatians series, I think the Aristocats series would really have thrown me for a loop. The 101 Dal series was kinda good after I got used to it, but the character design changes and other little changes did bother me. Those Aristocats series designs, by the way, also reminded me of Pink Panther and Son (meets class of 3000, actually). That cat they were sticking with Marie reminded me of the one from the Paula Abdul video (M.C. Koolkat?) more than Thomas O'Malley, ha.
I personally am not against the idea of using Disney's library of characters/films for new films/stories, but some are more suited than others and I don't approve of big redesigns or departures. A Hercules sequel seems like it would be a fine idea if they would get the original voices back. It's all in how good of a story they can come up with though. You can really make a good sequel or series for ANYTHING, but you can't get lazy with the writing or cheap out on the production, and that's usually what happens.

Thanks for the pics, this film had no BV logo, just like my VHS "Masterpiece" copy and my Toon Disney copy from last year recorded off of TV on my DVD-R. I will give you these pics later on. It does have the Toon Disney logo on the bottom left of the screen.
On the first pic, it has the 1990 WDP logo instead of the new one. Many of these had the 1990 logo in a number of Platinum Edition DVD's.
I'll post the same pics with the Toon Disney logo later on. I recorded last year off Toon Disney right before the Special Edition DVD came out last week.

"The Aristocats" did the same quality used for the 1997 VHS release, but as I said before, this film does not have the Buena Vista logo, but it only shows the 1990 Walt Disney Pictures logo in the beginning and end of the film. This was the last time that the 1990 WDP logo was shown on that DVD since it got retired. "101 Dalmatians" PE DVD does have the new logo.
Is that true? I do have my DVD copy of that film recorded off of Toon Disney last year before the DVD was released.
