i was just on a reliable harry potter site called mugglenet.com and a page count for america has been confirmed, i repeat, a page count has been confirmed. the book is 784 pages long makeing it the SECOND LONGEST book in the series. i think it should've been longer like 400 pages longer. do you guys think this is too long or too short or just right

I think the length is fine. JKR says it's her favorite, so I'll side with her .
But I was thinking this book would surpass OOTP in length.

Which begs the question, what is the longest book series in America?

i really, really wanted it to be, like, 1000 pages

I know OOTP is the longest HP book in America...

If your asking volume-wise, I still don't really have a clue, but I would think these all are fairly exensive collections.

The Left Behind Series and its spin-offs.
Animorphs.
All the Star Wars fiction.
The Sword of Truth Series.

In any case, I'm willing to bet that the largest series is a kid or young adult series. Those authors can usually write more because their audience is easier to please.

Volume-wise, I'd say "Goosebumps". I'd be reluctant to count the "Star Wars" fiction because much of it was not written to be as a series, save for a few like the "Heir to the Empire" and Yuuzhan Vong story arcs.

Star Wars has 105 Books and growing- I have read about 100 of them

Well, here's more Potter-related news. It's not related to further news about the book release, but that of the movies.

Warner Bros. has publicly announced yesterday that Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson will reprise their roles for the final two Harry Potter films, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The press release also has quotes from Dan, Rupert, and Emma saying how happy they are to finish out the roles they started in 2001. The final two movies will be produced by David Heyman and David Barron.

I saw this on Mugglenet yesterday and was like, "YESSSS!"
I'm so glad they're not changing the principle cast (even though Dan can't act his way out of a box...but I'd rather have him stay on tha have to get used to someone else).

Not a major subject, but I'm curious: What are your opinions on publishers, or Scholastic at least, labeling Book 7 with "Year 7"?

Me, I always thought Year 1, 2, 3, etc. referred to Harry's years at Hogwarts. It's just not the same if Harry isn't going back and they still label it with a year number.

The way I see it, even if Harry doesn't return to Hogwarts (which i think he will...at least for a little while), there are still just seven books, so he will "graduate," as it were.

So seven books does actually mean seven years at Hogwarts.

well when she first wrote the books it was supposed to be Harry's years at hogwarts all the way but because of circumstanses she can't.

More Harry Potter movie-related news...

I found that Amazon listed the original motion picture soundtrack for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which is slated to hit shelves on July 10, the same week that OOTP is released in theaters. There's no news on contents or track listings yet, but it will most likely be a score-only release (or a score-dominated album with a few songs) like the previous four soundtracks.

The composer for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is Nicholas Hooper, a British composer who has collaborated with director David Yates on previous projects. He'll be required to use John Williams's themes for the fifth film (or at the very least, Hedwig's Theme) and probably some Doyle material from the fourth movie.

Can't wait for the soundtrack release. Considering that up and coming newcomers to mainstream films almost never disappoint, I have high expectations for the score too.

To this day, I'm so angry Doyle threw out so many of the themes from the previous Harry Potter films Williams laid out, and composed new ones. I wonder, is it possible for Williams to come back for a future Potter film? I guess he doesn't want to come back for he already missed one film, but I don't find that to be a legitimate reason.

I wish John Williams would come back...I don't want to say anything negative about the new composer, obviously not having heard his score for the film yet, but apart from like two tracks in "Goblet of Fire", there was nothing there I liked. If I could get another soundtrack like "Prisoner of Azkaban"'s, I'd be content.

Oh, and hopefully this one won't have any songs...the "Do the Hippogriff" song in the fourth movie was so bad...

I think if Yates doesn't come back for the sixth film and if Cuaron or Columbus return for either of the final two films, Williams would be brought back on. He did mention in an interview that he missed scoring the Harry Potter films. (The reason why Newell picked Doyle to score GOF is because Williams wasn't exactly at the right place and at the right time during post-production when he needed him.)

Now that he is in his '70s, one might expect Williams -- who has written more than 300 scores -- to slow down. But he is so prolific it's hard to keep up with his work. When I asked him why the latest Harry Potter movie didn't have John Williams music (much to the disappointment of me and my children), he explained: "It was a schedule problem; ... of course I would've done it if I could, but it overlapped pretty exactly with Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and War of the Worlds. The Lucas-Spielberg relationship took precedence on my schedule, and I had commitments to both of those films earlier on. I must say I miss doing it."

Or if a new director to the franchise is brought on and if he doesn't have any previous composer collaborators, Williams would come back.

Thank God it's not because of some law suit problem that's keeping him from coming back. But wow...70 years old?! I hope he still continues to compose as long as he lives!

Apart from the release date, I'm anxious to what the cover will look like. I'm betting it will be all black, or all red because the last two books have been blue and green...and those three colors that go together so well.

It's not as good as I wanted it to be, but I love it anyway.
I definitely wanted it to be a different color with more characters on the cover.
There are so many interesting things going on, too!
For starters:
Harry and Voldemort are facing the same direction (almost like they are fighting together??)
Niether of them have wands in thier hands.
The curtains make me think of the viel.
There are shadows in the background that look like people.
Harry has something (Horcrux?) around his neck.
