I doubt it. There were a large amount of haters after Pirates 2. A Large amount. I think it'll earn less than Dead Man's Chest. It happened to Matrix Revolutions.

Revising my prediction for Meet the Robinsons slightly: $112 million.

Today's the last day to revise predictions on MTR. I've upped mine to <b>$113 M</b>, so now I'm sure my original gut instinct will be correct. Full updated numbers to come after this weekend.

did anyone catch the news about National Treasure 2?

Helen Mirren joins the cast. I think it's time to up predictions on that one, I see a Dead Man's Chest-like increase over the original film.

JoBlo has learned that Oscar-winner Helen Mirren (The Queen) will play Nicolas Cage's mother, Emily Gates, in Walt Disney Pictures' National Treasure: Book of Secrets.

The site says that Emily will help link Gage's Ben Gates to his family's connection to John Wilkes Booth and the mysterious Knights of the Gold Circle.

And the bad guy this time around? Four-time Oscar nominee Ed Harris. He'll play Jeb Wilkinson, who has some information about Gates' father and aligns himself as an ally.

Returning for the Jon Turteltaub-directed sequel are Diane Kruger, Justin Bartha and Harvey Keitel.

Upping Meet the Robinsons slightly to $110 million.

uh-oh, you're losing faith in Pixar!

but yeah... I should probaply lower it too. I'd have to think it over, the new trailer is being very well received.

Not losing faith in Pixar as much as realizing the uphill battle they have. Comparing to <i>Cars</i>, a movie which had less then overly enthusiastic pre-release buzz, <i>Ratatouille</i> will most likely not have the popular soundtrack artists angle or the widely-held thematic interest (I doubt this will attract culinary fans the way <i>Cars</i> enticed NASCAR buffs). What it will have is even more competition, between the three big May releases, that <i>Surf's Up</i> film opening right before it, the new <i>Harry Potter</i>, <i>The Simpsons Movie</i>, and other things I'm surely forgetting. Furthermore, the latest trailer isn't doing much for me.

People that recognize and respect the Pixar brand will probably go see this, but how many people (parents and kids, especially) are even able or savvy enough to distinguish between Pixar and other computer-animated movie makers, even with the requisite "From the Makers of..." disclaimers? Plus, for a movie that's opening in a little over two months, I don't think that audience awareness is where it needs to be. Obviously, it's calculated and there will be toys, books, games, constant marketing, good word-of-mouth, and probably favorable reviews by the time June rolls in...it seems like the CGI market has been watered down to the point where even <i>Cars</i>' gross will be hard for a non-sequel to reach in the immediate future.

I'm afraid you're right. This summer is so crowded and Ratatouille is definitely sandwiched between highly anticipated/destined to be blockbusters.

I still think it has a fighting chance though. I definitely believe the $244 million that Cars brought in was mainly Pixar fanbase and family crowd.

I'd say eventhough the family crowd will continue to decline seeing as they can't tell the difference between who made what, the Pixar fanbase should be enough for $180-$220 million.

Wich basically brings me to the same conclusion.

I have noticed as well, from reading user review off Yahoo, that people really don't know the difference between Pixar and Disney and other CG animation studios.

I see many reviews about Meet the Robinsons saying 'Pixar's done it again!' and also 'Pixar really blew this one'....

It's sad. It makes me realize how different we all are from the average movie-watcher. Why take the time to post a review about something you obviously know nothing about?

I also feel Ratatouille (and animated movies in general) have too much competition saturating the movie theaters. I have stopped seeing movies in theaters that aren't Disney/Pixar. I will not be seeing Surf's Up, or TMNT, or the like....until DVD at least. I do usually (didn't catch Flushed Away) see Dreamworks' stuff though. I probably will be seeing Shrek the Third and Bee Movie in theaters.

Well it looks like I was right in lowering my prediction for Meet the Robinsons after all. I did have the feeling that regardless of quality it wouldn't perform to well. The question is, did I lower it enough?
