As much as I'm opposed to disney prequels in the first place, I think I'll keep an open mind on this one. Considering the fact that they did manage to make a series about it that was set before the actual movie then maybe the idea of it being a prequel could work, could being the key word lol. Maybe its not set as far in advance as everyone is speculating? Or has it already been confirmed that the story is about a younger ariel? [/i]

I opened an article for "The Little Mermaid III" in Wikipedia but they deleted it, saying that the project was cancelled. Some of those Wikipedians are really stupid...

No, it hasn't. But the word prequel has most recently been equal to a younger age: like Tarzan in TarzanII and Bambi in BambiII.

The thing is, both Tarzan and the Bambi sequels showed a version of the character which had already been introduced in the original movies. We've never seen a "young" Ariel, apart from the slightly younger one in the animated series. I would put money on the prequel being set in the same period.

This achieves everything Disney would want to do with the sequel. It allows the "iconic" Arial (i.e. with fish tale, the look most people associate the character with) to be the star, and it allows children to "spend more time" with a character they have already been introduced to, and are familiar with (just like children already knew and liked the child Tarzan and Bambi).

Hmm a prequel for The Little Mermaid could be faily interesting. I guess I will hold off judgement till I've seen the trailer.

I dug up this old thread, kinda surprised that this one hasn't been merged with it. . .

http://www.ultimatedisney.com/forum/vie ... 574e7f845a

Anyway, even if the fans had any input, it would be too late by now for it to matter.

Um, I kinda liked this idea from that thread though. . .
Sunset Girl wrote:This is how I always envisioned a little mermaid prequel:

Ok, let's say that Ariel's mother's name is Andromeda, and let's assume that Ursula was a member of King Triton's court with her eyes secretly set on the throne. (After all, she did mention that she once lived in the palace!)

BTW, why the name Andromeda? Besides the fact that it starts with an "A," it means "to think of a man" from the Greek element andros; "of a man" combined with medesthai "to think, to be mindful of." Andromeda is also a constellation in the northern sky which gets its name from a mythical Greek princess: "The beautiful Andromeda of ancient Greek legend was chained to a sea cliff as a sacrifice to a sea monster, and was rescued by the hero Perseus."

Anyway, to get back to the story. . .

Ursula definitely had something to do with Andromeda's death/disappearance. Andromeda had a fascination for humans, even telling her daughters stories about them. She had been saved by a human when she was just a child, and being an authority figure on the arm of King Triton, she'd want to be a peacemaker with them. Triton would remain suspicious of the fish-eaters though, and would want to enforce strict rules against any human contact.

Ursula could see this as an opportunity to get her out of the way. Being a trusted member of the royal court, she could secretly offer Andromeda help in contacting the humans, both knowing that Triton would never understand any sympathies toward the fish-eaters unless he saw proof of the compassion that Andromeda had once witnessed. Either Ursula takes the opportunity to kill her herself, or she lets the humans take her away.

(Which brings up a scary idea. . . what if Andromeda is still alive in some circus side-show? Disney, please ignore what I've just written. . .)

Once she is gone, Ursula would explain that she wasn't able to save his beloved wife in time from those dangerous barbaric humans. And with her out of the way, Ursula attempts to win over the grieving Triton until she can get him out of the way, and assume the throne for herself.

Imagine the frivolity of Ursula trying to play mother to all those little mergirls while trying to impress Triton! Of course, Ariel is the youngest, which explains why she'd have no memories of this.

But his rejection eventually brings out the evil in her, and Triton discovers that she had something to do with leading his beloved wife to her doom with the humans. Ursula is exiled. All of the kingdon is told to stay away from both Ursula and any humans, as they are not to be trusted.

And you know, Ursula would find it to be poetic justice if Ariel's love for humans proved to be Triton's downfall. . .
   8)

Oh yes, that was a great idea! There is also a thread called "Write your own Disney story" in "Polls and Games". You can find my tlm3 fanfic plus some artwork. But I guess yes, there is no chance for us fans to inspire Disney with our own fanfics. What is more, it seems that the official plot has been finished already.

The prequel is about Ariel being kidnapped in a ship with her baby Melody. Here's the script:

I'm so stupid! I never figured that out! I'm so sorry......I don't have the faintest idea because it's beautifully written. But personally, I hated the script.

I didnt like that script at all.....my reasons
1. Ariel didnt have enough lines
2. I dont like the story at all....its boring and it seems too seriouse some of the lines I can't imagine Ariel or Eric or even some of the other characters saying.
3. It seems to take place completely on dry land? Was Ariel a mermaid at all in the script? lemme go check again...
4. Id much rather have TLM3 be a prequal with no Melody...I mean I like Melody an all but Id rather have Ariel the star and before she got married and had a kid an stuff...cuz yeah...but yeah I just want to see Ursula again and to see some something before the first movie...where we learn of how Ursula was banished an what happend to her mom and hey maybe we learn about Prince Erics life while Ariel was a kid or something...

Flounder: "But Ariel you already have 19 of those
Ariel: "I have 19 thingamabobs and this one makes twenty"

but yeah

Just looking at that menu screen again, which says 'The Little Mermaid 3: Musical sneek peak'. Does the term 'musical' mean that a new song will be presented, or will it simply be a trailer set to music? Or! Maybe it's the disney stars singing a synopsis :P .

Hmmmmm that got me thinking about this in a new way too. Maybe they don't mean a movie sequel to the sequel at all! Maybe they are referring to the Broadway Musical, and calling it a 3rd TLM since there was the original movie and the theme park stage show. Could this be a preview for the Broadway musical?

I don't think it's a trailer set to music. A lot of trailers have music so they would just call it a sneak peek and not bother adding musical. I'm pretty sure musical means this is something special. What that something is though, I hope it's not Disney Channel stars singing about the movie; that'd be such a disappointment.

Yeah, you might be right there Kram. I wish Disney would just release some solid facts :( . This is the most mysterious 'prequel/sequel' ever  .
