Even though we miss you since you were dead in 1966, I will say happy birthday!

I don't think there is anything odd in wishing someone who has passed a Happy Birthday. Just because someone is no longer with us, doesn't mean the date they were born didn't happen anymore. It's just another way of keeping them alive in our hearts and minds. so with that...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WALT!!!!

I always wondered how long Walt would have lived if he didn't smoke. I know someone that's currently 102 and still has a sharp brain, and does stuff on his own, so who knows, maybe Walt could've made it to 110.

I too wonder that. Maybe he would have lived at least into the 1990's? I wonder how different his company would have been had he lived even that long? We'll never know. But what we do know is that he was an amazing pioneer in entertainment, theme parks and story telling. Yes, he had his faults, all of us do, but when he was great, he was the best. I'm just sad he died sometime before I was born.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WALT!!!

I used to wonder throughout my teen years what life would've been like if Walt were still alive. If he would've gone thru with his EPCOT plans. What kind of animated films would he have proposed?

It is comforting that many of his ideals have survived long after he passed: The Disney Renaissance of the 1990's, and the founding of Celebration, Florida to name a few things.

So, Happy 110th birthday, Walt Disney!

I don't think it makes any sense to wish Walt a happy birthday, but this is still a good day for wording our appreciation of him.

His vision broadened filmmaking, and that most of the films he oversaw enjoy more acclaim today than they did in his lifetime speaks volumes about how foreward thinking he was.

Was he an anti-semitist? We'll never really know.
Did he care more about making the films he wanted to, or making money? We'll never really know.
How would he feel about the films made after his death, and the company's present state? We'll never really know.

What we can agree on is that he was a creative genius to whom many owe lots of nice memories :)

Happy late Birthday Walt!!

But to me... Walt is still alive, through his work and the theme park he created.

He was a normal man, just like any one of us, but one of creative genius who constantly inspires me everyday, not just his creativity, but also his work ethic.

His bravery is astounding to. Hardly anyone would have the audacity to put their company on the line to release a full length animation, knowing full well it could quite easily bomb and the company would be utterly bankrupt. That kind of sacrifice, bravery and self belief is what you need to get successful in life, I have found.

You inspire me everyday Uncle Walt.

I didn’t know where exactly to put this, but I came across some interesting (to me) Walt Disney trivia today.

I was reading a recap of 1966 Disney history and it said that the last Walt Disney animated classic to be rereleased in Walt’s lifetime was a rerelease of Bambi (1942) on March 25, 1966.

And the last film released during Walt’s lifetime was Follow Me, Boys! on December 1, 1966.

I love learning stuff like that! I hope some of you do too.

Not birthday related, but this i guess is our catch-all Walt thread.

I started reading "Disney In-Between: The Lost Years 1966-1986" by Stephen Anderson yesterday. In 1966, Walt Disney was making $300 a paycheck (I assume they got paid weekly). I thought that was interesting, that the (I assume!) highest paid employee was making a salary of $300 a paycheck (I'm sure he brought in a lot of money from other sources besides just his paycheck but)!

$300 per week in 1966 would be worth $2912.41 per week in 2024.
