This just illustrates perfectly why I hate most of today's 2D animation so much. And I don't mean the Princess and the Frog kind of 2D when I say that.

What does that have to do with whether or not that cat is allegedly Figaro?

Well with the way those shorts look, it's probably hard to tell anyway.

I wouldn't think that cat is Figaro. Black and/or White cats are actually the most common breeds to see in Animation, it seems. Also, the one time a short featured two film-specific characters in a gag, they were much more faithful redesigns.

I have to agree with you. I'm getting tired of disneyphilip's aggressive posts all the time. Why are you so angry/hostile? Try to learn how to express yourself respectfully and please refrain from using these -> :x  there's really no need for it. Thank you. :)

Getting back to the more positive sides of this topic... The series is even going to have a THIRD season too, according to this article:

Yeah, even I don't really use them as much as that.

Yep.

2Disney4Ever wrote:Uh, no they don't. You really think that Flash style with the thick-outlined, cardboard cutout characters is better and more appealing than how the characters were traditionally drawn? Despite obviously trying to take after the classic old school designs, it's just another awful way of trying to give these beloved characters a "new look" that isn't anywhere as appealing as how they had been done before (and not even as artistically good as the old school shorts it's trying to emulate). This is also why I didn't like the designs on The Looney Tunes Show when the Looney Tunes were being drawn just fine before.
(buzzer sound) Wrong! You are entirely incorrect once again.

Mr. 2Disney4Ever, stop annoying everyone with your hand-drawn animation fetish and blind hatred of CG, the new Mickey shorts, etc. because your points are completely moot and your whole argument is extremely futile and one that you know darn well you'll never ever win.

You also need to stop asking for Andreas Deja back--it's just an excuse for you to hate anything not done by him. Plus, he's a feature film animator, not a TV show one.

And quit your Paul Rudish-bashing! He's a much better artist than John K. will ever hope to be! Plus, unlike John K., Rudish is actually talented and not a butt-head!

Disney has copied Figaro's design on different occasions.

Just look at Dinah from Alice in Wonderland. She follows the same basic structure, and they're even less shy about it in the books...

As for the kitty in the Mickey Mouse episode, that's not Figaro. They probably would've used Cleo as a complementary character, but even with the character references made thus far, they probably had more fun with two miscellaneous characters.

Its really not reasonable to expect theatrical quality designs/linework on a show with this quick of a turn around.

Maybe not, but I think it is reasonable to want to see TV scale animation look the very best that it can, which cartoons like these new ones and their crude character designs don't really try to do. There's a major difference between how well 90's cartoons from the Disney Afternoon were drawn and how well this is drawn.

Theatrical quality had nothing to do with this. I was merely wondering how those cats are one and the same.

I only quoted you to keep what 2Disney4Ever said in context. I was only referring to what 2Disney4Ever said.

You're still as dead wrong as ever, 2Disney4Ever, and you know it!

Plus, even though some of the Disney animated shows of the 90's and early 2000's (particularly movie-based ones like Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, Timon & Pumbaa, Lilo & Stitch, House of Mouse, etc.; plus the direct-to-video cheapquels), regardless of how good or bad they were, tried a little too hard to mimic the Disney animated feature style on smaller budgets (TV shows and direct-to-video productions are usually given small budgets to work with, compared to theatrical features and shorts). The characters would often look off-model, the colorings of the characters would often be inaccurate, etc.

So, things like the new Mickey Mouse do a better job on the smaller budgets. And the new Mickey shorts ARE well-drawn and their character designs ARE NOT crude in any way, shape or form whatsoever.

And it certainly is not reasonable to expect theatrical quality designs/line-work on a show with this quick of a turn around--same held true for the shows I just mentioned. Stop asking for too much, stop being unreasonable, stop being oblivious to reality and stop forcing your unhealthy hand-drawn animation fetish down our throats, 2Disney4Ever.
