Steel Magnolias - I just watched this for the first time today. I thought it was a bit overrated, but it was still really cute and sad. Sally Field gave a fantastic performance, along with Dolly Parton and Daryl Hannah, especially. Recommended.

Hairspray (2007) - I love this film! I saw it 5 times in theaters. Haha. Recommended.

The Shawshank Redemption - This was my first time watching this film. It was SO GOOD! It might be in my Top 10 Films list, but I'll have to look at what other films are on the list before I add Shawshank. Haha. I'm gonna watch it again soon.

All About Steve - Nothing to really summarize my thoughts except "Oh, dear god...." >.<

Hopefully, I can see Extract tomorrow to wash out that awful taste All About Steve left me with.

Cheers,

It's Shirley MacLaine and Olympia Dukakis who really make this film for me--and cut through all the sweetness. Their dialogue is outrageous!

Milk on dvd. Good to learn something about this episode in USA history and the battle of the first openly gay politician. Sean Pen again shows he's an excellent actor.

Did you catch the permire of Jonas Bros' vid for Keep It Real??

As for me, I recently watched 3 films in 3 days (that's a new record for me)

Day 1 I watched the following film bout the ORIGNAL family band The Jackson 5

The Jackson 5: based upon the history of the Jackson family, one of the most successful musical families in show business, and the early and successful years of the popular Motown group The Jackson 5 and the bits of Michael Jackson's solo success.

This film was deeply amazing and quite well thought out. The actors/singers portrayin the Jackson 5 were perfectly casted, especialy Wylie Draper's portrayal of Pre/Adult Michael was perfect. The film is in 2 parts (dvd/tv wise) Part 1 focuses on the Parents and alil bit on the Jackson 5 then part 2 really starts off with the success of the band/Michael's solo act and ends with a great bang. The performance of each song was entertaining, I hummed along with "Rockin Robin" and "ABC". Highly recommend this film if you wan'na know bout Michael Jackson's life before he became MICHAEL JACKSON.

Day 2

After watchin a few episodes of that story of a lovely lady who had 3 very lovely girls and a man name Brady who had 3 boys of his own....I decided to watch The Brady Bunch

The Brady Bunch: The concept of the film is that although it is set in the 1990s, the Brady Bunch family are still portrayed as their 1970s television incarnations and are unaware of the disparity between their lives and their surroundings.

If you need a good laugh I highly recommend this film, perferbly if you've seen a few seasons/episodes of the show. A couple of plot points could've been strong along with a possible semi meancing villain. The culture clash works superb in this film. There's also plenty of nods to the show (I.E The famous "Marica and the broken nose" scene) and a few cameos from the origanl cast like Florence Henderson (orignal Mrs. Brady) as Grandma Brady, Ann.B Davis (orignal Alice), Christopher Knight (orignal Peter) and Barry Willams (orignal Greg) makes a apperance as well.

Then on day 3.... I watched a sequel to the Brady Bunch and it was A Very Brady Sequel

A Very Brady Sequel: The Bradys get a shock of a lifetime....Carol's 1st husband, Roy Martin comes back into her life, when he was thought to be dead at sea.....The kids warm up to him and give him a "Brady" good time, much to his dismay...yet he's actualy on a misson to buy a highly prized horse statue and is using the Bradys' hospitaly to his advantage and retrieve the horse statue (the Bradys own the statue) once his plan is almost foiled, he kidnaps Mrs. Brady and escapes to Hawaii with the Brady family on his trail....

Fairly good, not great as the 1st film, I was kinda let down by it cause I assumed the 1st 15-30 mins of the film would stay in the Brady's hometown then they'd win a trip to Hawwai, yet I was pleased with some of the acting, it's a lil stronger this time, think they could've brought back Mr. Dittmeyer(The villain from The 1st Film) as a supporting villain to team with Roy... Again there's various nods to the show, including 3 Brady Kids songs, (if you count the theme song) and the "possible" relationship between Greg and Marica (which happend during the real show's run)

Overall I highly recommend all 3 films if you just want a good solid entertaining movie or relieve a past show but in a semi update.

Mason, there's also a second sequel, entitled "The Bradys in the White House" if you're interested.

Yeah I heard of it and I think I might've saw it when it permired...again I don't remember... but there was gon'na be another direct to tv Brady film, A Very Brady Shipwerck where the Bradys meet the cast of Gilligan's Island along with Carol's 1st REAL husband, Prof. Roy Hinkley.

That plot would've had a strong chance of succeding at the box office if done just right....So many possiblities *laughs* I can see Jan/Marica comparin themselves to Ginger Grant and Eunice "Lovey" Wentworth Howell while Greg and Peter rub shoulders with Skipper, Gilligan and Thurston Howell, III

Yesterday I picked up Ghosts of the Abyss on DVD at Walmart and watched that. Very well done movie. This was the 2nd time I've watched it. Not a sequel, but a great followup to James Cameron's own juggernaught Titanic.

I was hoping to also pick-up Cameron's Aliens of the Deep as Walmart had a few copies a few days ago, but when I got there, they were all gone. :( I still haven't seen Aliens of the Deep, so I'm looking forward to tracking down a copy and finally watching it.

The Other Boleyn Girl - Wow. Just wow. When I told my friend I was watching this movie, a discussion sparked about the Tudors, and since she was kind of a Tudors geek, I learned a lot, and watched the film whilst doing so, so that definitely increased my inerest. Natalie Portman gave a spunky, touching performance, and Scarlett Johansson gave a haunting, beautiful one. I think I prefer Anne Boleyn to Mary, and my love for Natalie helps that a bit. Eric Bana was also great as Henry, and the film as a whole was gorgeous. Recommended.

Yup, I did! I was actually a little disappointed with it, but since it's a video for the TV show, essentially, it's okay if it's a worse video than their others. It just seemed rushed or something. And the live concert footage was 2 years old...I found that strange.

I still haven't decided if I want to watch that movie. On one hand, I detest 'costume dramas'. On the other, it has Nathalie Portman *and* Scarlett Johansson in it.

It's a tough decision...

Agreed. Even though I love period/costume drama this is a title I've never felt particularly compelled to see. Maybe someone here could convince me otherwise. I just don't happen to like Eric Bana much :(

Honestly, Eric Bana isn't in the movie NEARLY as much as Natalie and Scarlett are.

UP for the second time.

and Earth for the first. I agree with the critics on this one! It really is something, and I'll be picking up the BBC series soon, most definitely.

The Cat Returns (Saturday) - Even though Miyazaki did not work on it, this was an okay japanese animated film.

The Shaggy Dog (Original (Sunday) - I thought it was okay, but I skimmed through about 70 minutes in.

The Singing Detective ('04) - HORRIBLE. Honestly, one of the worst films I've ever seen. Not even Robert Downey Jr. or Katie Holmes could save this borefest.

Inglourious Basterds – Screw historical accuracy, this movie is terrific! The story, the performances, the music were all spectacular. I was on the edge of my seat from the opening scene (which kind of made me wish the movie was a drama through and through) to the chilling finale. Since the relationships between characters and their motivations were fantastically explored, and since I loved all the scenes with Shoshanna, I wonder if Tarantino will ever make a romance movie, but one that, you know, doesn't end in a bloodbath.

Up:up:! I posted my thoughts about it in its respective thread.

Alien / Aliens / Alien 3 / Alien: Resurrection – It's been a long time since I've seen any of them, so I decided to throw myself a small xenomorph marathon. Long story short: the first two are classics, the other two aren't. They're not really bad, but rather disappointing, No. 3 even more than No. 4 (you gotta love psycho Ripley in that one).
