The release date for Maleficent has been moved earlier to May 30th, 2014!

Has anyone on here mentioned that Paul Dini is another writer on this movie? I think that it was SMART of Disney to get Dini on board.

His work on Batman: The Animated Series is probably his most well-known accomplishment. He notably created the character Harley Quinn and also helped turned Mr Freeze into a serious, tragic character. He was also a writer on Tiny Toon Adventures, Freakazoid, Animaniacs (Minerva Mink was his creation), Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League and Duck Dodgers. So, yes, he's definitely a great writer.

A few pages back I said I saved a copy that was on the internet. Disney took it down, though I don't feel comfortable posting the exact thing, I'll repost a quick description of the events in the script. The Fairies reject Maleficent because they think she killed her mother and they say her father is a devil worshiper. Also She feels left out because her wings are huge and she has troubling controlling them and they are black and feathery.
She feels like a reject and feels alone. However there is a half fairy half human named Stefan. Maleficent loves him, and when he tells her he's going to the human world to meet a King Henry she isn't happy but lets him go.
King Henry strikes a deal with the fairy King and they share the land however King Henry says he will manipulate the fairies to do what he wants. Maleficent finds this out but the other fairies don't believe her because they say she's a born liar. King Henry I think finds out about and has Stefan an offer.
Stefan goes back to Maleficent and says that he loves her. Maleficent is thrilled however it's a trick ans Stefan drugs her, and rips her wings off and brings them to King Henry. In return King Henry let's Stefan marry his daughter.
Maleficent has a talk with her father and decides to take the fairy throne. However if the stone on the throne screams it's not the right heir, but if doesn't they have found the rightful ruler. The stone screams when she takes the throne.
Maleficent does end up cursing Aurora, however something happens between then and the curse.
Stefan tells 3 fairies to take Aurora and live in a cabin. They don't like it and don't want to take care of that child. Stefan however orders them to by a threat of some sort and they take her.
Maleficent somewhere frees a crow and transforms him into a man and calls him Diablo. However when she gets sick of hearing him she says turn to a crow and he does.
Also she spies on Aurora growing up, and one day she confronts her and begins to have caring feelings for her and they become friends. At one point she does decide to lift the curse, however the other fairies made a counter curse and it still happens. Aurora does fall asleep however Maleficent wakes her with the gift of true love. Also it is revealed that she is the rightful ruler of the fairies. Maleficent helps Aurora escape and before Stefan is about to kill Maleficent, Aurora finds Maleficent's wings and frees them and they some how re attach themselves to her and they escape. She declares who the rightful ruler of the land is and when Aurora sits on the stone throne and it agrees.
Diablo tells Maleficent that she did the right thing, but jokes because of some her actions she should be called The Mistress of All Evil and they laugh. It ends.

All signs have pointed to real, however that was in the beginning of January and since then Disney has brought in some new writers so it's possible this got some facelifts done to it and improved it, hopefully

Things are ever so quiet on this film, only one still and a plot summery, along with blurry pap shots of Maleficant in a field.
Am craving to see more on this, with hopefully the dodgy script being all worked out!

Maybe that leaked script's awfulness was why Disney hired Dini.
Why would Linda write something this horrendous (even more than Alice) is beyond my bewilderment.

This film, for a such a major tent-pole, is remarkably under-wraps. MANY signs point to their being a tremendous amount of re-writes on this film (provided that the leaked script is real). The only things that we know of for sure are based on what's been officially released. The ONE official still (I mean, what kind of fuckery is that? Releasing an official still in the summer of 2012 and then NOTHING over a year later?) looks a lot like the animated character. All descriptions of the clips from D23 indicate that what was shown was amazingly like the original film. While this could merely be showing the fans what they want to see and hiding the rest, I'm deciding to take it as a good sign.
Additionally, I would like to point out that a LOT of complaints have been directed towards the fact that it's showing Maleficent sympathetically. The reason I'm okay with this, is because unlike Wicked (at least the musical) it doesn't seem like Maleficent will be misunderstood once she "turns" evil. It's not like she's going to accidentally curse Aurora and cast the wrong spell and turn into a dragon as a mistake. She'll be consciously doing the evil deeds we've known her to do, we'll just be getting a different take on them. I find that to be interesting. We'll see how it turns out.
Now for my final point of this post. Dear Disney, do you realize how poorly you've become at marketing anything that doesn't have the words "Princess" or "Jack Sparrow" involved with it? Well you should, because you barely need to market those aforementioned properties any more, they do it themselves. YOU NEED TO START MARKETING THIS MOVIE ASAP. There are a lot of people who could get interested in this movie if they find out it's actually going to be released within the next year's time. This is a risky property to release as a tent pole, I respect you for that (especially as Maleficent's biggest fan), but you HAVE to sell it as an event. If you give this the John Carter/Lone Ranger/Prince of Persia treatment, it's going to flop. This will then lead you to deduce that no one is interested in Disney Villains/Maleficent/Angelina Jolie, which I guarantee you is not true. But the only way you can prevent this is by effectively marketing it.
You released a shot of Jolie over a year ago which got a lot of legitimate buzz. Great. It's been FIFTEEN MONTHS, your movie now comes out in EIGHT! You have eight months to convince people to see this movie. It really shouldn't be that difficult. You've got one of the biggest names in Hollywood playing a character that most people grew up watching. I understand wanting to keep an aura of mystery around it, but that ship has sailed. I think over a year of mystery on a movie is effective enough. It's great that you showed a room full of people who were definitely going to see this movie anyway an effective clip, but that's not who you're selling this to. You need to get this to the casual Disney fans who watched it when they were growing up. I'll give you a hint: that's most everybody. There's still time Disney, you could have a huge hit on your hands, and wouldn't it be nice to have a hit movie that you didn't have to buy the rights from another studio to distribute?

How over-dramatic is that?
There's eight months time. Why do we need trailers and posters that far in advance? It's nonsense.
This movie will get a LOT of free press, since it's Angelina's return to the big screen after a four year hiatus. The opening weekend is going to be huge regardless of when they start advertising.

I'll concede to being over-dramatic. I agree that, at this point, there's still time to successfully market this film as it needs to be, but what are the chances that Disney will do that? Disney's marketing team has dropped the ball a LOT over the past few years. It's obvious they think they can sell movies based on things like it's star or source material that few are familiar with. I can't help but worry that the same will happen here. Sure the star and source material are pretty strong here, but it's not enough to get it to match the $200 million it reportedly cost to make.

Patrick, I think you're forgetting about Angie's voice work as Tigress in Kung Fu Panda 2. So technically, that would make it
two or three years since she's had a big screen role.
