Why can 101 Dalmatians get a fuzzy cover and no other Disney classic gets something that cool? A see-through "glass" cover for Cinderella...

Well, I've picked up the DVD today. Although the DVD isn't packed like some previous Platinum Editions, I've always thought if we can't have quality AND quantity, if we can have at least some quality, it'll be ok. The documentary was VERY well-done and I learned just how Disney did the Xerox technology. (I always assumed they did it just like we do modern photocopiers. ) And I enjoyed the major batch of trailers and demos/alternate takes/etc. And from what I've seen, the transfer, as always, is delicious. Can't wait to finish viewing all the good stuff on the DVD.

Got my copy today, doesn't seem quite as good compared to the earlier PE's but it seems to be on-par with Peter Pan and The Jungle Book. The Collector's Book that came with it is MUCH better than The Jungle Book's with sketches, storyboards and production pictures. The Jungle Book's was just stills from the actual movie.

Picked up my copy along with the plushie at Best Buy. Was impressed with the picture and the sound right off. The extras are plentiful, and the missing songs are all very cute. Can't wait to really get into this and watch it all from beginning to end.

So, the slipcover's furry? That's a bit strange. In seven years Ariel's tail might be scale-y.

Aw, well. I hope everybody's enjoying the Platinum. I can expect mine from March 24 to the first of April.

I bought mine from Target but I'm thinking I might as well have bought it from Best Buy as it's only a dollar more, and I could've used my Rewards Zone card on it (not to mention I would've preferred the plushie to the zipper pulls).

Oh well, time to just enjoy the movie as what's done is done... xD

It's above Oscar winners and live-action films! Of the three animated films, it's the only traditionally animated film on the list (which is Disney's fault..), and it's number ONE! See Disney! You don't need CGI to get people's attention! JUST RELEASE YOUR GOOD MOVIES!!!! Besides, I doubt a lot of little kids shop on bn.com anyway.


The fact only 2 DVDs were released today mean nothing...

I would just like to applaud UD for the excellent review; very informative. Amy, you did a fantastic job in the interview, it was wonderful. Lisa Davis seems like she really enjoys being a part of 101 Dalmatians. I hope everyone was able to get a copy of the film. Happy Platinum Tuesday everyone!

Unfortunatly, I won't be able to get my DVD until March 19.

But on the bright side, it's a day before I go to Walt Disney World! So I get to watch it on the plane ride!!!

I just got it and will pop it in my mac right now.

Since I price-matched, I could not get the plush from best Buy.

Got mine at Best Buy. Picked up the Jungle Book also so I could get both plushies!

I wonder if 101 Dalmatians will be the last Animated Classic to appear on Blu-ray Disc ?

To stay on the topic, I snagged my copy at Best Buy and got a Lucky plush. Those bone squeaky plushes were not cool and those were they only ones they had out when I went in. I quickly asked if they had any more of the dogs. A nice employee went and pulled another box of Lucky. He claimed they had no more Penny. I'm happy with what I got!

I got the movie @ Best Buy. I didn't see any of the freebie plushes, but since I price matched (Circuit City had it $2 cheaper) I doubt I would have gotten it.

I obviously didn't look at the press release. NOW, I see that this was offered to us in Full Screen Mode.

Was the movie originally shown at the theaters in widescreen format?

I just spent my evening watching my copy of 101 Dalmatians: Platinum Edition. Before tonight, I hadn't seen this movie in probably about 5 years. I forgot how much I really love this film, I am so glad it has finally received it's Platinum Edition treatment.

My favorite part of the DVD, besides the film itself of course, was the "Redefining the Line: The Making of 101 Dalmatians" segment. Though I thought it could have been a little bit longer, I thought this was a really great segment. The segment was very interesting and full of a lot of great information. I found the part about the Xerox process especially interesting. I knew that 101 Dalmatians was the first film to use the Xerox process for the entire film - but I didn't really know much about the process. I also found the part about the model of Cruella's car being used in the animation process really cool too.

The "Cruella De Vil: Drawn to be Bad" sequence was great too. Though it was very short, I was just happy to have a segment dedicated to one of Disney's most infamous villainess'.

Overall, I would have to agree with the other people who reviewed the DVD that said that it was a little lacking. I would say that the overall content of this Platinum Edition is better than that of "Peter Pan" and "The Jungle Book" - but not by much. The bonus features are pretty good and it is a decent release overall. I'm just glad to finally have this film in my Disney DVD library.

Every time I get a new Disney re-release it's always a big treat because, even though we still have a VCR, I have always stepped away from the movies I have on VHS. Unless it's something I really, really want for some exceptional reason, I just can't make myself settle for VHS quality on anything anymore. So usually I haven't seen these Platinum movies in several years. Not for lack of owning them or wanting to see them, but for lack of owning them in a decent, suitable format.

So, while I do remember them in broad strokes, the memories are just vague enough to make the movie new to me. It's almost like I am seeing them "for the first time again." And I'm always thrilled and reminded of just how good these movies are. Tonight was no exception, and I'd even venture to say 101 is one of my favorites among a long list of fantastic films. Its beauty is in its simplicity, both in animation style and plotting. It's a lesson in how to make a lean, mean, effective movie: a good, solid story, characters who really engage you, dry humor and a dash of action, but not too much of any element. Everything comes together here, and it's such a sweet story. Of course, it doesn't hurt that I love dogs, but wow. And Cruella...I can totally see why she terrified me when I was a kid. What an inspired creation.

Sadly, my moments of rediscovery for these films seem to be over since we're getting, now, into reissues of things I already have on DVD. I will still rebuy all the Platinums from this point forth (this time on Blu-ray), but it won't quite be the same thing because I rewatch these on DVD a lot. If this pleasnt tradition must end, 101 was a great title with which to cap it.
