I think Cinderella is top princess is because she's simply the most popular with little girls. And I also heard Cindy, Snow, Aurora, and Belle are seen as the perfect babysitters, while Ariel is seen more as a mermaid than a princess (probably why most merchandise featuring her is by herself) and children are actually intimidated by Jasmine's spunk.
Random but...

The lantern scene was probably the best scene in the movie. It had the best music, the best animation and it was romantic

Well maybe not. I would expect Rapunzel would still want to get out of the tower to see the lanterns even if they were on another day. Plus she probably wants to get out period.
I think most people just say she looks like Ariel. I haven't heard as many people say she acts like Ariel. Plus, most of us haven't seen the movie yet so it is premature to say she acts like anyone really.
I don't think Rapunzel is going to be the alpha long haired blonde. Her hair is too long to be a really classic princess image. Long hair looks great for individual things, but it doesn't really "fit in". Cinderella will still be the top princess, and Aurora will still be a classic princess look. Rapunzel, will be big for a while, but she will settle into place.
I don't see how Cinderella always gets to be the top princess. She's not too special.. i'd think Ariel would make a better top princess, because she's unique with the mermaid stuff and all. But i guess her movie came too late for her to be on top. Offtopic: I've always hated Cinderella's hair when it's up with the blue hairband. Looks like yellow poo.
You can blame Disney Marketing for the color reassignment. Cindy's hair is supposed to be amber (and her dress was silver, not blue).
Regardless, if you took away the fairy tale aspect, there's not much to Cinderella either. Like with Sleeping Beauty, the movie seemed to be about everybody else
except Cinderella.
I always thought Ariel was the unofficial leader of the Disney Princess lineup. Just as well, because she's my personal favorite.

The horse is stealing every scene he's in thus far (of what I've seen). He looks pretty similar to a few horses in Disney lore, but the animators did a fantastic job perfecting his expressions and nuances.

at that new clip!!!!!! So funny!!!! I'm a little disappointed in the background characters' designs, I won't lie...but very funny!
I think that's the whole point. I think hey want Rapunzel to stand out, so they make really dull background characters (There's a scene right after this one that explains this...)

For some reason, I thought I detected a Tiny Tim Look-alike there.

Well, what do you expect? She never even knew he was the Prince Phillip that her 'aunts' told her she was betrothed to. And she knew he was coming to meet up with her later that night.

That scene had far better background character designs than the opening "Belle" song in Beauty and the Beast.

Bytheway, Tangled (or Rapunzel as they call it in here in holland) gets released on 1 december here. But so far i have seen NO doll commercials, NO trailers, No marketing!
I think there's about 20.000 people here who know there's coming a Rapunzel movie. And there are 16 million people here.. they better get started promoting it!

I am not a big Cinderella fan either, but she seems to have taken over. I hate to admit my age, but when I was a kid there was only Snow White Cinderella and Aurora, and of the three Cinderella appeals the most to kids and adults. Snow is just a wee bit too old fashioned (although I actually love her more than Snow and Aurora). Aurora is not featured enough in her film and is so idealized it is hard for some people to relate to her sometimes. But Cinderella is reachable, everyone can imagine being in her shoes (forgive the pun), and she has that perfect "rags to riches" or "ordinary to extraordinary life" story we all sometimes long for in our life. So she is perfect as the ideal princess.
I don't think Ariel is a perfect "princess" because she is too mermaidy. I know that might not make sense, but she isn't real enough to be the perfect princess. She is rooted in fantasy farther than Cinderella because of it. Not that a fairy godmother isn't fantasy, but Cindrella's world is more our own than Ariel's. Plus a mermaid doesn't feel very "princess". Although she is actually my favorite princess (unless Rapunzel is amazing). I really do love Ariel.
And Cinderella's hair is a mousy light brown or dark blonde...I don't know why it became "blonde" but even as a little kid everyone I knew thought of her as a blonde. And her dress is silver!
But anyway, I don't think Rapunzel will be pushing anyone aside. Her hair is too long and even people with long hair can't get length like that so it will be hard to relate to her. Girls will still want to be Cinderella or have Cinderella's dream.
Edited for spelling

Oh, I love character animations on a white background–Pixar did a bunch of those for
WALL-E. The Flynn one is funny; I love their dynamic. <3

Megamind drew in big sales for it's opening Friday, coming in at #1 with $12.5 million. But is was close to Due Date though, so either could come out on top after the weekend.

Just watched Tangled Pantene commercial and loved the scene where Rapunzel runs her hands through her hair. It looks amazing, but I don't recall it being in the movie. Could someone else who's seen the movie clearify?

Is it just me, or in the 2nd trailer when Rapunzel says "I've met someone" (in the English version of that scene,) it sounds like, "I'm living in Candyland."

Anyways, nice animation, but why is Flynn in front of the Pub Thugs trailer and Pascal in front of the Gothel trailer? Shouldn't Gothel and the Thugs be in front of their own trailers?

It's actually 'Ich habe jemand kennenlernen', but yeah...i can see why it would sound like Candyland!

I decided to create a more romantic soundtrack cover for my itunes, that harkens back to the style of the original soundtracks for The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. I figured I might as well share it in case anyone else wants to use it... I did one of each with the films alternate titles.
