I can see the potential but this tells me absolutely nothing. :(
Er . . . I'm not really sure what more you'd expect, this is pretty typical for Disney clip art.

Seriously, is it just me or is Disney's toy department completely at odds with the marketing folks? Or is it just because even though they're trying to make it appealing to boys, but they know the dolls will still sell incredibly well?

Enigmawing, I love your new avatar! You should add Rapunzel to your sig (which is also really nice by the way)

I know, but it's awfull and pretty sad that this is the first thing we have to see, I hope we get to see some actual still frames or clips from the actual movie soon, so we know the actual look of not only the characters but also the movie!

Especially for 2D clipart of 3D films.

Ah, thank you!

Ok, here's my shot at them . . . I left all the ones Disney put in out of laziness . . . not sure what was up with the silver heart but left that there too.

I'm surprised that those dolls based on Disney's, "Rapunzel (which I recommend besides Disney's, "Tangled")," did not change the title from, "Rapunzel," to, "Tangled." Who knows, maybe Disney MIGHT come to their senses, and change it back, even though changing the name is official.

I don't know why, but there's just something in those pictures that make me like Rapunzel instantly. Must be her pose... She looks like she's got attitude. I like that. It also made me realize how I would have liked it to be in 2D...

Ah well...

They're still recording lines?! Is that normal? They've already started animation... I thought the recording was done first thing after they got the story all set. Hmmm. Maybe they'll not be able to finish it by November and they'll have to postpone it a few months. That would actually be fine with me. Give them time to make it a better movie...

or to contemplate changing the name back......

Might have a different process with the voice recording since Tangled is a CGI film.

Why? It's a different tool, but things are still done the same. The animators have to lip sync the animation to match the recordings of the character's voice. The lip syncing wouldn't be the same if they were to use the temp voice from the story reel. It's strange that their still recording voices this late in the game.

No. They're probably just touching up some scenes with new dialog or doing more takes on existing lines. I recall the girl who played Kida saying they kept calling her back to do more. Plus, animation for Ratatouille was very unfinished 5 mo. before it's release, so I doubt they're already lighting every single scene in this movie quite yet.

And in the Lilo and Stitch Documentary, they showed deviegh chase doing lines for a scene already animated and being projected behind her.

Thanks for the comments everyone! Maybe I'll try to squeeze her into my sig (not sure where without rearranging ) but maybe I'll make a new one soon. :D Here's a bigger version without the logo:

Image

I basically wanted a hand-drawn-looking version of Rapunzel for an avatar but we still have so few images of her. I did a lot of guessing and leaned more towards the sketches I've seen rather than the CG. I'm still really dying to see more official pics, even if it's just clip art so we have a better idea of her design.

About the voice work, its perfectly common to still be recording dialogue at this stage. animated movies are in a constant state of change, even after animation has started.

and remember, not every line has to be seen spoken, any time theres a line said by a character off screen or their head facing away from the camera they can add lines there in post production no problem.

but even for lip sync, thats usually done after the main animation. and its not like all the shots are in the same stage of completion, they probably have a handfull of finished shots, and some only partly blocked in.

Beautiful work! I like that in your version looks more sweet....just as a Disney princess should be ;)

I don't think that's true, is it? It makes sense about the off screen dialogue, I didn't think of that... but for lip-sync, they have to match the animation to the spoken words. That's part of why they use such things like timing charts, to work out the syllables and sounds. Maybe they rerecord SOME dialogue to better match the animation, like in the Lilo example, but I don't think that's how it's usually done. At least, that's certainly not how I've been taught to do it in my three years of animation school...
