Maybe they didn't plan for already publicly announcing the release date, and someone who controls the online marketing didn't get that memo. Either way, I don't thing Disney would pass up on the opportunity of marketing this together with that new Sorcerer's Apprentice film coming to dvd/blu-ray in december. I wouldn't worry.

I know, it says right on there it's relative pixel dimension comparison at 2.39:1 aspect ratio (letterbox taken into consideration). I was just using it as a visual to give him/her an idea of the sheer difference in resolution. I never stated it was a perfect representation, just wanted to get my point across that Blu-ray is not even close to the resolution theaters currently have with 35mm films (common misconception the public has, as they're trained to think HD [marketing's favorite term] is as good as it gets and that "old" movies wouldn't benefit Blu-ray because they weren't filmed in HD).

Well, actually Blu-ray is close to it. Film's 'resolution' degrades every time a copy is made, so the film you're watching has more or less 2K worth of information, roughly the same as Blu-ray. Digital projection has the same resolution.
Of course that's about film that's several generations removed from the original. The original does have 4K worth of info, generally (unless a 2K DI is made).
And the 'myth' that older movies wouldn't benefit from Blu-ray is laughable, indeed. I always let them read the reviews of The General on Blu-ray. If a silent movie that old can benefit from BD, any movie can.

Yeah but isn't the negative used when possible? Prints several generations away aren't really first choice (necessary when negatives are gone, like Singin' in the Rain and King Kong) but yeah, more or less. Some films were on finer-grained film stocks and could provide better 'resolution', while some techniques like VistaVision add a little information by going horizontal (The Searchers and North by Northwest look AMAZING on Blu-ray).

I'm personally really excited for Chaplin (The General on Blu-ray has me enthusiastic about silents).

Yes, but we were talking about the movie theater, where the prints usually are a couple of generations away (or made from a 2K DI). Yes, for Blu-ray you can return to the original negative, or the DI, or whatever has survived, but since you're still stuck with the resolution of HD. So, the improvement still won't be big. That will not change, unless 4K resolution home viewing will come into play, and I don't think that'll happen.
The reason why it might look sharper on the television is because the screen is much smaller, and because of several factors in the theater itself (focus could be slightly off, print might be damaged). Then again, there are several Blu-rays that look like crap as well. And with a crappy BD you can't just go to a different theater. You're more or less stuck with it unless the studio decides to fix the issue and re-release it.

Hi everyone. I'm new here.

I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere in this thread. Have you guys seen it?

I stumbled upon that a few weeks ago, but i decided not to share it because I was sure the cover art would change before it's released. It's just the same cover as the previous release after all.

At least that's what I'm hoping...

With the Beauty and the Beast Diamond Edition keeping the vast majority of it's previous extras, I have high hopes for Fantasia. If this comes unedited, fully restored (that's a given), keeping ALL of the Fantasia Legacy extras and includes all of the Fantasia 2006 shorts (pretty much confirmed), I'll go nuts!

Does anyone know yet if F & F2K will be released together or separate? I hope they don't put them together. I want to be able to arrange them on my shelf in release date.

Just like I do hope they have some sort of matching cover-art or logo

You know what would be a cool extra? Even though it's only loosely based on 'The Sorcere's Apprentice,' the full Mickey's Philharmagic show would be awesome. It wouldn't even need to be in Blu-ray 3D, just HD would be great. Unfortunately, that would be bad business on Disney's part, as it would take away interest from the park attraction (synergy) and lower the value of the park. Just like I fear we'll never see It's Tough to be a Bug bundled with A Bug's Life on Blu-ray (at least until the show is replaced).

Oh well, give me all of the Fantasia Legacy extras and the Fantasia 2006 shorts (Destino, Lorenzo, One by One, and The Little Match Girl) and that's all I'll need as far as supplemental material is concerned.

I'd also love an unedited Fantasia (Deem's voice, Sunflower). I love Corey Burton and so does Disney, which is why they use him for everything, but if he can't impersonate Deem, then find someone who can. I guarantee you there is someone out there who can perfectly replicate Deem and could make a seamless transition where the missing audio is. I wish they would at least make an attempt to find someone to replicate Deem's lines, instead of asking a couple of their in-house voice talents, and then giving up. As for Sunflower, at least give us the option Disney. As it is, I hate the horrible zoom and I'm sure it will look even worse on Blu-ray.

This is for a 'Special Edition' product - as of yet, only Diamond Editions are available on Blu-Ray, while the cut-down versions of the product made for DVD are still either Platinum or Special Editions (like Snow White and Dumbo).

Therefore, I would suggest that Disney still see the Blu-ray Diamond Edition of 'Fantasia' as having a very select audience, and so the DVD version would be a more promising seller, generally. In turn, the 'combo' I would have thought means that they'll be bundling both the original Fantasia and F2000 on DVD, while the Blu-Rays will still be separate releases, because they're supposed to the "la creme de la creme" :) Promotion wise, they'd be wanting to sell the original Fantasia on its own and getting the normal base Blu-Ray price rather than putting people off by charging more because you have to have Fantasia 2000 bundled with.

Also, don't forget that the previous trailer only announced the "Diamond Edition", and only mentioned the Blu-Ray format. This trailer will most likely be just make us aware there is a Special Edition DVD version too.

Hope they have something else planned for the year. It's been awhile since the last release since they skipped Dumbo.

Maybe Pocahontas or Alice will come up.

Don't forget - the U.S got the 'Alice' re-release, while the U.K got Dumbo at the same time. Next year, they've scheduled it to be the other way round so we get Alice, and you guys get Dumbo.

Should be a great second half to the year. Toy Story 3, James and Peach, Beauty/Beast, Fantasia :)

I don't think they'll change it. That cover is one that has been the same for many years, unchanged. It's the iconic artwork image irrevocably associated with the film, just like Uma Thurman with a cigarette for Pulp Fiction and the dead body in the snow for Fargo.

That's how I feel about it. I don't want them to change it, and I don't think they will. :)

If you're talking about the Mickey image then yes, it's had a good life since 1991 and has been used in many different ways, such as the VHS and DVD covers.

Personally however, I think they should come up with something abstract, given the nature of the film and the size of the release. I really liked the cover for the 'Fantasia anthology', the way they used the outline of Mickeys hat created a music note.
