I registered a while back but didn't really get into checking this place out until recently. See, I finally have a computer of my own so I don't have to rely on the library anymore!
I'm turning 29 next month, and I've been a serious Disney fan for as long as I can remember. I was told that my first real Disney experience was back in 1978 when a local theater was celebrating Mickey's 50th birthday. Man, I wish I could remember that, but I was only two.

Anyway, there was some *girl* in a cheesy Mickey Mouse costume that greeted the movie goers, and apparently I was convinced that she was the *real* Mickey Mouse! When we went into the actual theater, I started crying; I wanted to *be* with Mickey Mouse, not just watching his cartoons, LOL!
But my first real Disney memory is probably seeing Jungle Book back when our local high school ran a family movie night in their auditorium. I was about four.
I was glued to the TV every time a Disney special came on. We didn't get a VCR until 1985, when I was nine. I began to tape just about every Disney special I was aware of. My first pre-record video was of Lady and the Tramp, which was about two years later, I think. We had seen it in the theaters the year before and it was my dad's personal favorite. I went on to collect almost every full-length animated feature that came out after that.
Now that the DVD format is out, I've replaced most of my tired old VHS's. There are still some titles I'm holding out on and others that I'm anxiously waiting for, though.
I think my dad is the one responsible for getting me interested in behind-the-scenes stuff. He used to explain to me that it would sometimes take years just to make one movie, and I found that very fascinating at a very young age. I always loved to draw, and I also think that sparked some of my interest.
And Disney movies was always a family time thing in the household I grew up in. I got to see the majority of them in the theaters with my parents, and it was always awesome to gather around the TV whenever a new video would come out. Now that my parents are gone, I'm grateful for the memories I have attached to these movies. I've also been able to get my boyfriend into these movies again as well, as he admitted to not watching any of them since he was ten or so. It's like I told him, you're never too old for this stuff! I can't wait to have kids to share them with as well. . .
So anyway, my favorite animator is Glen Keane, but I also recognize a lot of the other many talented artists' work. It's exciting that a lot of the DVD's have the kind of bonus features that used to only be available on LD and then some (the price of LD's were out of my reach as a kid).
Well, I'm glad to be a part of this forum now. I'm sure there will be lots of interesting things to discuss here!

Welcome, Sunset Girl!

Always nice to get a 'new member' from someone who registered about a year and a half ago. Glad you're able to post now. It's even nicer to have someone as intelligent and well-versed in Disney as you seem to be. Do stick around! It sounds like you'll add much insight into discussions!

for Glen Keane!

Hi,
Sunset! Is that handle by any chance a reference to the ATB song of the same title? (:

Im Michael, Im kinda new to this forum thing, but ive been a disney fan all my life, here it goes
I use to live in a town that was full of violence and stuff like that. My schools were filled with trouble makers, bullies, and other kinds of people who werent kind or thoughtful. To escape from this reality, I watched old disney cartoons that i had on vhs. I wished i could live somewhere like that, where everything was peaceful
I watched some great films, which became my top favorites: Dumbo, Bambi, Snow White, Alice in Wonderland, and my absolute favorite...Fantasia. As i got older, i started to wonder how these cartoons were made. I studied in at least 100 different books and got hooked on the process of animation. I am now an animator in training, getting paid for my works of art, and have created over 50 different characters that are known throughout my neighborhood.
Well, thats my story

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome and kind words, I already feel at home here!
The way Minnie appears on my avatar is the image that came to me when I first heard the name "Sailor Mini-moon" (aka Sailor Chibimoon) from the Sailor Moon anime. I couldn't resist a little visual pun.
Oh, and Key, I don't believe I'm familiar with the ATB song, could you please elaborate? You've got me interested. . .

"Sunset Girl" is this electronica (on the techno-ish side) song by ATB. It appears on the album Addicted to Music. You should check the song out, it's rather nice. (:

Cool; I'll have to look that up.
Sunset Girl is actually a character I made up several years back. I've been kinda tinkering with her design and story for a while now, but I must admit I haven't really done much with her. And unfortunately, she bears more than a passing resemblance with Will and Irma from Disney's W.i.t.c.h. Here's a pic of Amber/Sunset Girl and Amethyst/Twilight Girl:

The scan turned out a little light for some reason, but you get the idea.

Welcome to the forums!
I'm going to merge this topic, and the other "I'm New" thread, with the previously existing "Your Disney Story" thread. That's not to discourage you, or any other new members, from saying hello to everyone, and I know everyone really appreciates your enthusiasm. But we get new members every week, and if every one were to make a new thread announcing their arrival, we'd have dozens of them. That's why we have the "Your Disney Story" thread, so all the new members can say hi and give a little background. Hope that's understandable!
