MadonnasManOne wrote:Thanks for sharing your story, Disney Villain! I am always interested in finding out what causes people to have such passion towards the things they enjoy. I like finding out what makes people tick, so to speak, so, I really enjoyed your story! Lucky you, that you have had the entire weekend with the DVD! I can't wait to pick it up. I am looking forward to seeing the film, again. I have the Limited Issue, but, I haven't watched it in a long while, in anticipation of the Platinum Edition. It's good to hear that it's a good release. I really wish that Disney would go back to doing the Platinum Edition releases the way they started, with Snow White. They started out very strong, and have had hits and misses, since then.
I'm anxiously awaiting the release on Tuesday!
Thank you so much
MadonnasManOne, I truly appreciate your kind words! So, now you know my story, lol. I also love finding out what makes people tick. You’re going to enjoy the PE. I also wish Disney would go back to creating releases like Snow White. They started the Platinum Editions out in an amazing way, and just went downhill from there.
Snow White PE was worth the $25.00 price tag but
Peter Pan PE wasn’t. I have a feeling that
Sleeping Beauty will be an amazing release, similar if not superior to
Snow White. Hopefully with the Blu-Ray technology, Disney can produce amazing features in an easier way. Once again, I just wanted to thank you for taking the time out to read my long story. I hope you enjoy the PE!
Thank you too
Ariel'sprince! I figured you felt the same kind of excitement for The Little Mermaid PE. We all have our favorite films; those films that inspire us. I felt like I was handed all the riches of the world when I laid my hands on the
101 Dalmatians PE. Thanks again for your kind words!
2099net, I have to agree with you, the release could have more, like storyboard to film comparisons, and an audio commentary. I just had to praise the DVD because I've waiting so long for it, it could have had one bonus feature, and I would have called it a packed release.
I also think that Disc 1 should have had a widescreen version of the film. It's not like Disney didn't have it lying around.
I have been frustrated with Disney. Everything after
Beauty and The Beast had nothing "Platinum" about them. I mean it’s wonderful to have a restored film on a digital file, in all honesty that alone is enough; however, I hate all the fluff Disney has been adding to recent releases. My aunt is one of those complaining soccer moms; she doesn’t understand why she has to pay for a 2-disc when her kids only want the movie, and only 2% of people watch the bonus features

These are the people Disney listen to and it's a real shame.
Here are a few scans from the DVD. Only one day left people!

I'm so thrilled for you
Disney Villain, to finially have your dream come true by owning the movie on Platinum Edition DVD. It really is your year with Sleeping Beauty coming out as well ! You must be on top of the world.

I can guess how you feel about 101; its probably the same as how I felt when The Little Mermaid came out!
I have only had time to watch the movie so far, and I just love the restoration. It's the first time its really hit me how wonderful Disney Restoration can be. It is certainly one of their best efforts; it retains the same feeling of it being an older Disney movie, but with the clarity of it almost being a new movie. Just wonderful !

Seriously what an amazing story - thanks for sharing Disney Villian, it makes you feel good when you read something like that
Although I too was a Disney Kid starting with Aladdin, the film that really "sparked" it for me in the movies was Hercules when I was 10 - good times.

So I don't post here often, but I just wanted to say how happy I am that the 101 Dalmatians fans finally have this Platinum Edition!(tomorrow anyways!) I know how long you guys have been waiting for this release.(well, myself included!!) DisneyVillian, in a way reading about your passion for this movie makes me appreciate 101 Dalamations even more than I already did! Seeing your love for this movie makes it even harder for me to wait another year for my Pinocchio, Because I feel for Pinoke just as you do for 101 Dalmations! Anyways, I'm so happy for you!!!

Oh I'm sorry but I'm really not sure, I just know you get them if you order in store. If you pre-order from the web-site it should tell you if you get any type of bonus or not.

For the store exclusives, as with the content on the actual discs, I don't like what I'm seeing. Even Jungle Book had a few good ones last fall. I know, for obvious reasons, that the Best Buy one is your choice of one of those plushes, although I've yet to see them physically, I saw one, along with one of the Jungle Book one in the back on someone's desk, but that's it. But one that I might be interested in is at Best Buy's sister store, Future Shop, in the ad it says something about a fuzzy cover. Have no idea what it is, but I might check it out. But I definitly think the best one I've seen was at Disney Store last week, they were selling preorders and giving out a lithograph or something along those lines, don't know if they have it just as a give away if you buy it without the preorder, if so, then I might pick it up there.

atlanticaunderthesea! When I found out that my two favorite films of all time were being released within the same year, I was more than thrilled. Waiting truly does pays off in the end. I truly appreciate your kind words, they mean allot! I also like the restoration; I consider it one of Disney's best . I also plan to order the 101 Dalmatians Gift Set from Amazon UK, I really want that book!
Ariel'sprince, I'm glad you were able to get the U.S. release of The Little Mermaid. I think it's horrible for Disney to scam over other countries with single disc films, when they have the second disc of material just lying there.
Thank you so much
CampbellzSoup and
Mowglie. I truly appreciate your kind words. I'm simply flattered by all the kind responses. I missed my friends here on the forum! Well I'm back, and I don't plan to leave again.

The fuzzy cover is a slipcover covered with the same material used on the Muppet Show DVD sets. It has a dalmatian fur design with the movie's logo in the center.

Unfortunately, No, disney online isn't doing litho's. I checked their website a while ago to see if they had the lithographs available and I didn't see them - I assumed they weren't doing them for this release. I called the store today (very last minute) and asked and luckily, not only were they doing them, they had some left. Honestly, i've been collecting the lithographs for years - way back when the VHS's were being released and I have continued to get them - but, my complaint is that for some releases they don't have them - and some they do - sometimes they are only available online and sometimes they are only available in the store. I now know that I have to check as i'm sure i've missed some. The 101 Dalmatians lito's are alright - not my favorite.
Even though the movie is being released tomorrow - I guess you could ask at the store if they could hook you up - good luck!

The most annoying part about Disney "fluffing" up their Platinum line is that they are being disrespectful to their own films.
They have made some groundbreaking, innovative and TIMELESS movies and have gone beyond the "family film" genre. In other words, they are more than just kid movies, and many film critics will agree on that.
So, why suddenly treat them as if they were babysitting movies simply because a few soccer moms find it too hard to pop one disc in?
You might say 'Its the audience that buys the DVDs, therefore they need to make them happy', but really. Did the Snow White DVD sell any less because it had a second disc? Did Beauty and the Beast, Bambi, and Aladdin sell poorly because moms had a hard time figuring out which disc is disc 1?
Worst of all, they are skimming on one disc releases too! What's wrong with one commentary or documentary? Or add more deleted scenes? I remember back in the day there were some one disc movies that had excellent bonus features, and in some cases, it was just the icing on the cake. Soccer moms can't complain there since they can just ignore it and watch the movie.
If Disney was alive he would probably order the DVDs to be treated properly, and more than just give them better extras. Correctly restore the picture in its original screen ratio, drum up the sound and treat it to a handsome package.
Its definitely sad seeing a company treat its own bread and butter so poorly just to please a few vocal minorities.

You are very welcome. Again, thank you for sharing your story. I'm so excited to pick this up, and wouldn't you know it, we are now having a freaking snow storm! It was in the middle 70's on Saturday, in the 60's (though raining), yesterday, and now it's in the 20's, and the snow is coming down so hard, you can't even see the road. I was so nervous driving home from work. So, I'm not sure if I'll be able to get out in the morning, and pick it up, or not! I know I'll eventually get it, but, I had my morning all planned out, and now, I don't know if I'll even be able to make the trip into town to buy the DVD! ARGH!

To whoever reviewed the DVD, excellent work. I'm excited to see how much better than the Limited Issue this looks. From the reviews I've read, I expect it will be a pretty big improvement. It's sad to see Disney lacking in the extra features department. It's become so common for them to provide the bare minimum, I guess we should be happy to get what we can. However, I really would like to see a return to the type of treatment the first couple of Platinum Edition releases received. In fact, they should all be just as packed and full of insight as Snow White was.
I assume Luke did the review, since no name was listed, although I swore that I read somewhere that Amy was reviewing this. So, I want to give proper credit to whoever reviewed the DVD. Great job!

I just got back from Best Buy with my copy of 101 Dalmatians: Platinum Edition, as well as my Lucky plush. I'm glad I went early, the store I went to only had a few Lucky plushes and tons of Penny plushes - and I really wanted Lucky. Well, I am finally glad to have 101 Dalmatians on DVD, I have been waiting quite a while this one. I plan on watching it tonight, it will be my first time seeing the film in quite a while. Happy Platinum Edition Tuesday everyone!

I had to get my copy at Target sadly, because the closest Best Buy near me is a little while off, but it doesn't matter as long as I get the DVD.
The movie rewards code did work, which was a relief after the National Treasure fiasco.
