I forgot to post this info as well. The same thing is being discussed on the Blu-ray.com forum.
The Mad Kiwi wrote:I think Disney's pulling another Fantasia on us and will drop Peter Pan from the Diamond Collection (yet still give it a strong release that matches the others in every way other than title). Why do I think this? Because with every Diamond release, Disney releases a bunch of merchandise to cross-promote it. Case in point, these Aladdin books coming early next year:

Now, doing a little digging, I noticed these:

http://www.amazon.com/Peter-Step-into-R ... ayforum-20
And look at the descriptions of them:
Fly to Never Land with Peter, Wendy, and Tinker Bell! This retelling of the beloved Disney film features thrilling sound effects, word-for-word narration, and real character voices! Readers can follow along as Wendy and her brothers meet the Lost Boys, experience fairy magic, and battle the evil pirate Captain Hook. Timed to publish with the 60th anniversary Peter Pan DVD and Blu-ray, this book-and-CD set is packed with fun and adventure. Now, I realize the second description mentions "Diamond Edition," but I'm willing to bet that's outdated and will be fixed in the coming months. The point is that these books are specifically timed to be released concurrently with the Blu-ray.Boys and girls ages 4-6 can follow Peter, Wendy, and Tinker Bell's adventures as they battle Captain Hook and the Never Land pirates in this Step into Reading adaptation of the beloved Disney animated film Peter Pan, coming to Diamond Edition DVD and Blu-ray in 2013!
So, to me, it looks like Disney is doing what they did with Alice in Wonderland last year and is releasing a high-profile 60th Anniversary Edition in February just before the next Diamond (Alice before Bambi, Peter before Aladdin). And if Alice is any indication, this will be a Diamond Edition in every way (top notch transfer, extensive supplements) but in name. As long as Peter's release is as strong as that one, I don't care if it's called a Diamond Edition or not.
And while we're on the subject of cross promotion, could these be pointing to another early 2013 release?
