It wouldn't have been hard to teach a baby that a different day was her birthday, and after seeing the lanterns for the first three years Gothel should know they would continue and Rapunzel would be curious. She probably would be curious about them no matter what day they fell on, but having her know it is her birthday only makes it more tempting to see them. Gothel made a huge mistake.
Well, if Gothel did pretend she was born on a different day, then maybe Rapunzel would've stayed in her tower and we wouldn't have a story of breaking free

Rapunzel and Briar Rose share a lot of similarities
- They've both been spirited away from their parents
They both do not know their princessiness
They both are totally hot size 0 blondes
They both have talents in the arts and non-english speaking animal friends
They both have a longing to go 'out there'
They both have protective 'mothers/aunts' who don't want them to go 'out there'
Not to mention Samson and Maximus are both very playful very strong and very white.

Yeah, but the mayor difference between them is that Rapunzel has a personality.

Okay, so something's up with Amazon.com and the Tangled artbook....
I got an email this morning from Amazon telling me they have "recieved new release date information" and the book will "actually ship sooner than we originally expected based on the new release date."
Not that I'm complaining, but then I went on the actual product page for the artbook and its says "In Stock but may require an extra 1-2 days to process," although the release date next to the publisher's name still says November 17. Uh....
Anyone know what to make of this?

no kidding. Aurora is such a pushover. She finds out she's a princess and starts bitching about it as if it's the worst thing that could have possibly happened to her. ever.

Had Prince Philip been polite enough to mention his name (which I think most princes would've), I think Aurora would've said "SCORE!" instead of running off in tears.

Not to mention she's not even the star of her own movie.

I think s/he did reply, but accidentally put it in their quote of Patrick.
I know a lot of people have said Rapunzel is like Ariel, and I agree that the design is similar in style (big eyes), but I still have never found her that similar to Ariel. It's probably some barrier between mediums, but she also comes across shorter than Ariel (though Ariel did seem to switch back and forth throughout
Mermaid...

). And I know we haven't seen enough to describe her actual
character, but she seems "younger" in spirit than Ariel. Ariel = teenager. Rapunzel = 11 year old (in spirit)? Which makes sense because, though Ariel was repressed, she roamed relatively freely--maybe against the rules, but she still did. Rapunzel's been trapped in a tower for, what, 15 years? I like Rapunzel, the character (from what we've seen of her), as she is, and that's not Ariel to me. If it were, I would probably just be more annoyed.

I dunno, I really hope she doesn't turn out to be an attempt at an Ariel replica, because the original will always win in these cases. (Aurora fans'll probably be more angry after this film than I would be though, because it looks like she's going to become the alpha long-haired blonde of the Disney Princess franchise now).

she's been trapped for 18 years

I actually think Rapunzel acts more like a fifteen year old than a eleven or eighteen year old.So she reminds me of Ariel alot, but i think she's stronger and does not break down so easily

Well maybe not. I would expect Rapunzel would still want to get out of the tower to see the lanterns even if they were on another day. Plus she probably wants to get out period.

I think most people just say she looks like Ariel. I haven't heard as many people say she acts like Ariel. Plus, most of us haven't seen the movie yet so it is premature to say she acts like anyone really.
I don't think Rapunzel is going to be the alpha long haired blonde. Her hair is too long to be a really classic princess image. Long hair looks great for individual things, but it doesn't really "fit in". Cinderella will still be the top princess, and Aurora will still be a classic princess look. Rapunzel, will be big for a while, but she will settle into place.

I don't see how Cinderella always gets to be the top princess. She's not too special.. i'd think Ariel would make a better top princess, because she's unique with the mermaid stuff and all. But i guess her movie came too late for her to be on top. Offtopic: I've always hated Cinderella's hair when it's up with the blue hairband. Looks like yellow poo.

Tbh, I never understood why Snow White wasn't the "leader," considering she was the first. Too short, I guess.

But I can kind of comprehend why Cinderella is the top in the franchise, because she's the epitome of the idea their selling: pretty dresses, slippers, nice manners, romance, prince charming, happily ever after, etc. I'm not saying that's what the films represent, but that is what the franchise uses to sell itself.
