I have heard the following from multiple sources: This Thursday, the 15th, Disney is going to make their press release about the "BOLT" home release and lift all media embargos.

There's going to be a 1-Disc DVD, a 2-Disc Deluxe DVD, and a Blu-ray.

I hope the 2-disc set is more than just the one disc release with a digital copy. Lots of other studios put bonus features on the same disc as the DC, hopefully Disney will follow suit. I doubt it though.

I finally saw it! It was fantastic and it felt like an actual Disney movie, something I haven't experienced since "Brother Bear". It would have been nice if it was a 2D movie, the film would have had more of that old-school/"Oliver & Company" charm. Nevertheless, I was blown away by the CG graphics. Great to see Disney getting their groove back.

Btw, "Tokyo Mater" was... surreal. It looked like a deleted scene from "Speed Racer" .

Today I was at Valletta (with my father) to buy some art supplies. I went to have a look at the stalls set up daily in Merchants Street. As usual, there were those people selling tons of bootlegged DVDs and CDs. I was especially disgusted to see BOLT available on DVD. The film hasn't yet been released theatrically in Malta. It hasn't even been released on DVD in the US! (So these bootlegs are certainly not pirate copies of the Region 1 disc). Of course, they must be the usual Camcorder-O-Vision version of the film.

Ew. These things make me sick.

By the way, mooks, BOLT got released in B&Herzegovina already?

They could be a bootleg of DVD screeners or check discs, Jules.

My copy of Sita Sings the Blues says "Limited Edition Festival Sceener" on it. Does it have anything to do with what you wrote?

They're usually just a DVD with the movie/tv show that gets reviewed by whoever is requested to review it (which is how some tv and film reviewers get to post previews of a tv show/movie without having to go to a preview press screening). In some cases, it's the same DVD that gets released, but with watermarked picture (stuff like Property of Escapay Films, Do Not Duplicate Or We Will Find You And Burn You Alive) and compressed to single-layer discs. If you check some online reviews for new DVDs by Fox, you'll see the A/V section might mention that Fox sent the reviewers a screener disc instead of the regular DVD. The recent UD review for City of Ember mentions it, as the actual DVD will be a flipper, but Fox sent a widescreen-only screener disc.

Also, usually around awards season, studios will make "for your consideration" DVD screeners and send them out to the awards voters.

Usually once a reviewer is finished with a screener or check disc, they're instructed to send it back to the studio (to avoid bootlegs being made). Most do (it's an honor system kind of thing), but some don't. Or they make a bootleg then send it back, which is how people can download torrents of a movie if a DVD screener was made and an unscrupulous reviewer decided to rip it before sending it back to the studio (or ripped it and held onto it anyway). I was able to watch the complete Everwood Season 3 because someone who received DVD screeners for most of the episodes ripped them as .avi files and put them up on torrents.

The frontpage reports that the Blu-Ray edition of Bolt will be available two days before the DVD versions.

I was expecting Disney to begin doing this... Just not so soon!

Great news! Not only does this mean I will get to see Bolt in the finest audio and video quality available in home theater, but I get it two days before the ever-shrinking DVD-only crowd, not to mention the Blu haters.

Second that, but I really hope that this move, releasing it as a Blu-ray/ DVD combo during the weekend, will get more people to buy it for the DVD, and have the Blu-ray so in a few months or years, they wouldn't have to pay another $30 to upgrade (I've done this a few times, double dipped on a title, paying another $25- 30 for the BD when I have the same movie and features on the DVD).

Someone's overly optimistic about the shrinkage of the DVD-only crowd. It's not shrinking nearly as much as you think.



Personally I can wait two days. Not that big a deal.

Yeah, I agree. I'm not even planning on ever getting a Blu-ray player unless DVD players aren't produced anymore. Two days is not a long wait at all!

"Blu haters?" No offense, but I really don't understand elitist attitude I've been seeing when it comes to DVD vs. Blu-Ray. I mean, I can totally understand having a preference of one format over the other, but the bashing has gotten ridiculous.

And with that out of the way, I can't wait to pick up my copies of Bolt and Lilo and Stitch on the same day.

Bolt was nominated for the Best Animated Feature Oscar today. Of course, I expect it to lose to Wall-e, but I was just happy to see it nominated. I thought the third spot would go to Waltz with Bashir. If memory serves correct, this is the first Disney Feature Animation movie to be nominated in this category since it was started in 2001/2.

I wonder if the folks at Disney are happy with the nomination? Like its been said its been a while since they have been nominated.

Most importantly, is Disney just plain happy with Bolt? The movie might now have been a smash hit, but it performed decently, received great reviews AND is nominated for an Oscar. Neither "Chicken Little" nor "Meet the Robinsons" received this kind of love.
