Well, I've got my copy of
Beauty and the Beast now. It's funny, I was thinking today about how
Beauty and the Beast was the first DVD I ever bought for myself, and now its the first full-on Blu-Ray I've bought. You'd think
Mermaid should hold that spot, but that's how things ended up.
Anyway, I won't be able to watch the Blu-Ray 'til Christmas when I get a PS3.
Now, I think I'll be going through some used stores, to see if I can find
Sleeping Beauty and
Pinocchio on Blu-Ray.

Better to build up to your favorite!

How long will Beauty and the Beast be out for? I keep hearing that it will have a shorter release than snowhite and pinocchio... ?

I was watching the movie earlier, and I really don't find there to be much difference between it and the Platinum edition, color-wise. Thankfully, the Platinum colors have never particularly bothered me, but I am a little disappointed.
Oh, and about the Tangled voucher--my Walmart had vouchers on all the copies of B&tB they had. I was definitely making sure (which might be the reason I didn't pick up the Blu-Ray case and instead got the DVD casing), because if they didn't have the voucher, I was going to go to Target. Besides the fact that I despise Walmart, at least Target would have come with a free CD (albeit with songs I already have on CD).

You know what, I was thinking the same thing too when I was watching the Blu-ray last night.
However, once I saw the Jordin Sparks Music Video, they use the Platinum Edition's colors for the movie clips and you can actually see a difference! The Platinum Edition's color are more washed out! There is way more shadowing in the new Edtiion. Also in the documentary you can see a difference to as well. They use the Platinum Edition in some clips as well.

I'm really impressed with what I've watched of the documentary so far (I've only watched the first hour and a half or so, including branching clips), but does anyone else find the way they did the branching really strange? One second you've got the interviewee speaking to the off-camera interviewer, then suddenly they turn directly into the camera and introduce the branching segment. I find it jolting and unsettling. Interviews are one thing and intros are another, but when you combine the two in the same take, it's a little creepy.
Oh, and my LG player has handled the documentary very well so far. It paused for a nanosecond when branching to Don Hahn's first intro, but after that it was fine.

Yes Kelvin! It did look creepy lol. I forgot to mention this before lol.
I don't know if they edit like a layer when you click on what you want to see, or that's how they filmed it. It is creepy though lol.

That sucks. I moved and no longer have a router. How does one get the update without their PS3 being online? Can you put the update on a disc? If so, from where and what kind of discs can you use? If I can't use something I have handy, I can't do it because I'm broke. *sigh* Any advice would be appreciated.
You can go on the Playstation site and I believe you can DL the latest firmware update there.

Hope this helps!

That's the best way if your PS3 isn't online. I know Sony is planning another firmware update for this month (I think) to add Netflix to the PS3 without a disc. Maybe the update will also fix the problem with Beauty and the Beast.

They definitely filmed it like that. It looks like they told the interviewee, "Answer this question for us, then when you're done, turn to the camera and read these cue cards." If you don't select the branching featurette, it cuts to the next soundbyte right after the interviewee finishes speaking but before they turn around to do their intro.

haha, yeah my friends and I also found that a little creepy. We ended up trying to avoid it from happening lol. I watched it with 2 other friends and we all loved the documentary aside from the weird branching. I still haven't finished everything in it, but I'd be very happy if the rest of the documentaries for the Diamond Editions are set up similarly.

Seems a lot of people here are downloading the latest PS3 patch to fix (or try to preemptively fix) the skipping/freezing problems on the PS3... but from what I read on another board the latest patch (3.50) is actually causing the problems.
So if you haven't downloaded it yet, maybe you'll want to hold off until you test playback yourself (unless it affects all recent patches, too -- apparently the QA passed with whichever version Sony had out at the time). Hopefully the next patch fixes everything -- for me the feature was OK, but the documentary kept breaking up!

Did anyone else notice in the documentary they used music from Edward Scissorhands for some transitions? Anyway, I liked this release of BatB, although the Lumiere in the main menu kind of annoys me. His voice blares on my TV even when the volume is pretty low, and he does it very often, making me make my choices very quickly so I can avoid hearing it. lol.

Yeah whoever is the voice of Lumiere is extremely annoying! Why couldn't they use Paige O'Hara or even Angela Lansbury to host the Blu-ray?
I try and skip him as well lol.
Also why do they have all the bonus feature menu's on the disc if they aren't there?

That is so confusing! I had to search the whole blu-ray before I found Jordin Sparks Music Video!

lol
Has anyone played the "Bonjour, Who Is This? Game yet? How is it?

You read my mind about the bonus features. I was getting all confused too and it took me almost 2 days to finally find the new music video, lol.

That is Jeff Bennett, who's basically become a stock voice actor for Disney. I mainly remember him as the Dad in
Dexter's Laboratory and as Johnny Bravo. To me, this just sound like Dexter's Dad with a stereotypical french accent and it's REALLY distracting. Just like Disney re-dubbing Deems Taylor with Corey Burton doing his stereotypical 40s accent, they don't even attempt to get impersonators and instead just settle on in-house voice actors. It's disappointing.
It should be noted that this was one of my MAJOR pet peeves with
Kingdom Hearts 2, in which many characters sounded nothing like their characters, and Jeff Bennett played Lumiere (among other characters) there too.
CampbellzSoup wrote:why did you people like the you wanna wanna stay here line? It sounds better when it's fixed.
I agree, it sounded better fixed. If they put the audio error back in to make it closer to the original theatrical version, they would've been better off putting the original transition after "Something There" in, as that is far more significant a detail.

I never really looked at the beast as someone who has a stutter, rather someone that just got flustered/nervous. I find it endearing. I like it there.

I agree with all the comments about Lumiere's voice. I see the "logic" for making him the host, but I mean... Cogsworth IS the majordomo and David Ogden Stiers has the advantage of being, you know, not dead to voice the character he created, thus avoiding that awkward "bad Jerry Orbach impression" effect.

This sounds silly, as we are talking about a candlestick and clock, but Lumiere is the one with the real charisma. They may have just put too much speaking in the menu or maybe like someone said it was just too loud, but I think they were thinking about him as a character, not who does the voice, when they decided to make him the host on the movie menu. Perhaps this is why Coggsworth made it on the spine.
