There are a lot of games I'd like to buy for the Wii, but like the many games for PS3 I'd also like to buy, money is an object.

If you saw my "to buy' list you would have a heart attack on the spot.

I have HUGE list of Wii games to buy, and it also include Madworld. I don't care much for bloody games, BUT I do care for original third party titles on the Wii so its a must.
Is it has to do with the "Wii is for family and kids" mentality? Or something else?
Yea, Madworld is great. Short game but loads of fun. It's way more violent than No More Heroes.

Its the fact that despite the Wii being the most popular console IN THE WORLD, constantly breaking sales records, having some great to amazing exclusive games, non-stop support from all companies and having a great library of downloadable games in the form of Virtual Console and WiiWare games it doesn't get respect from fans or the media. Its the Rodney Dangerfield of videogame consoles.
I just find it surprising when the Wii gets support from the unlikeliest of places, making the haters even more foolish.

I think the Wii-hate from the gaming crowd, despite the sales numbers, comes from a few things.
1.) Too many party/casual games (shovelware). All systems have these, but there seems to be a lot on the Wii. To the "hardcore" gaming crowd this makes the Wii a casual/kiddie system.
2.) Motion controls... Of course this is the Wii's main feature , but also one of its problems. When the controls are done right they really help with the game. For instance I hated the controls for Metroid Prime 1 and 2 on the Gamecube, however the Wii controls were fantastic for Prime 3. That's one reason I'm excited for the Prime 1 and 2 Wiimakes. However a lot of times developers just tack the motion controls on and they either don't work or consist of constant "waggling" of the Wii remote that gets tiring.
3.) Dated graphics. Graphics don't make the game, but the Wii is barely a step above the XBox from last gen. I've heard the Wii called a Gamecube 2.0/1.5, etc... I think some Wii games look really good while only being 480p, but some look very dated. Does it effect enjoyment for me? No, but for many it does.
I think the Wii was a step in the right direction for Nintendo. I always seem to choose the Nintendo system each generation, and its nice to see it #1 in sales. I have a few complaints, but overall I'm pleased. I hope whenever the Wii 2 (or whatever its called) is released we get a few things.
1.) Full backwards compatibility with Wii games, and maybe Gamecube ones too.
2.) HD graphics. Nintendo needs to make the jump to HD next time. Even if its just 360/PS3 type graphics while Microsoft/Sony go higher.
3.) Hard Drive... We finally got SD card support, but with a online system a hard drive would be a better option in my opinion. Also let us backup online games. Even with the new update there is no way to backup Brawl, Animal Crossing, Kart, etc... data to a SD card. I really wouldn't want to play though and unlock everything again if my Wii messed up or died.
4.) Better online, even if its not free. Ditch the Friend Codes and setup something similar to Live or PSN. Wii online is way behind right now compared to the other systems.
5.) More relaxed DRM. I don't mind that Nintendo protects the games, but if your Wii breaks you loose your Wii Shop account unless Nintendo repairs or switches your system out for a refurb. There needs to be a system setup where you can transfer your Shop account (DRM) to another system yourself. Personally this is one of my biggest problems with the Wii and one reason I do not purchase many WiiWare games.

Well I was torn between XBox360 and the Wii. I chosen the Wii because I like the VC titles and I was hyping for Brawl. Unlike PS3, at least Xbox 360 not just for graphic but has excellent games as well.
Darth Prime pretty much stated the reasons for so call "Wii hate". At least Wii now slowly starting to get rid of #1 list that Darth Prime gave. Having No More Heroes and Madworld really prove that Wii can put out unfriendly games as well. But Yes I have to agree that the Wii has a CRAP load of useless games as well. Some are even rip-off of Wii games by Nintendo themselves.
I dunno about you guys but I thought the graphics on the Wii pretty good and updated. Sure it's not Xbox360 or PS3 quality, but It looks improved enough for enjoyment. Brawl has some graphics that could be Xbox360 like quality.
Eh, I'm just waiting for NoA get SSB64 up on VC.

1. The most popular console will always get shovelware. This is a fact. When the Playstation was released and it became popular half of its titles were shovelware titles made to cash in on the success of the system. The same happened to the GB, the GBA, the PS2 and the DS. I think this has been an issue NOW is because the Wii being the unexpected winner of this generation some feel the need to mention this now.
I know fans says "But Nintendo should step in and stop these games from being made!". But Nintendo did this last two generations and it costed them a lot of support from developers, especially since Sony was made out to be a developer friendly company.
2. If the graphics in a game are poor its because the developers were lazy, its not the system's fault. Look at "Super Mario Galaxy". Its a visual stunner with great attention to detail and level design. "Madworld" shines thanks to its Sin City inspired look and great use of the comic book effect. Finally, "The Conduit" looks to raise the bar really, really high for Wii games. Again, if a game looks bad its because the developers were lazy and couldn't bring themselves to make something decent.
3. I agree that some games don't control as well as they should. But note that we are slowly moving away from this and developers are now creating control schemes that work to make the gameplay better. This is because when the Wii launched everyone rushed to make games look appealing, as thus "waggle" fests became common. But now it seems that we are getting more and more games with inventive and solid controls, and some even manage to be creative without relying on gimmicks. This is something that happened with the DS. Many games had tacked on touch screen controls and many simply didn't work. But then, games started being more traditional and the more innovative titles knew how to work touch controls well. The same thing will happen to the Wii.

You know what's even more foolish? The fact that most of the haters are 360 fans, and that console doesn't sell nearly as much in the rest of the world than in the US and Canada. I think it has something to do with it being the only current console made by an American company.

My only complaint is the lack of HD graphics. Also, if the controls for a game are good, I'll buy it. If not, I get the PS3 version with the HD graphics. The use of multiple systems make for some real choices.

Most of which are already ported over to PS3, so that edge is lost.

Sure, on a standard tv they look really good, but on anything higher than 32", the flaws become much more noticeable and the image not as detailed as the 360/PS3.

Wrong it's other way around. Many games that were originally going to be PS3 only games eventually became Xbox360 games as well. This is why PS3 fans are always piss off that all their "great games" aren't PS3 exclusive anymore.

I have my Wii on a 42"..... Doesn't look THAT bad. -__-
Of course 360/PS3 obviously going to have the better detail graphics, but I don't see the Wii THAT bad.

Example: My copy of Harry Potter on the Wii does not have half the color-range of the PS3 demo I downloaded. On the PS3, a stone courtyard would have lots of greens and look like it has overgrowth. The Wii version lacks that entirely. That's the graphics processor, but the characters themselves have stronger looking colors than they do in the Wii game.
The Wii is very fun, but compromising that much, even through a component cable, is sad.

And yet, even with that minor detail its the number one selling console in the world.
Not to rag you on anything, but while its sad that Wii games are missing details and textures seen on the PS3 and 360 note that the system was never about pushing graphical boundaries. It was about creating unique experiences in which everyone can join in and developers can create games that could only be done on the Wii.

Yeah I have a PS3 and Wii I hate this whole "but my system is better!" We're not in fifth grade.
Oh yeah I never buy a Wii game that's out on the PS3 as I don't find the controls to be that innovatie and the graphics look horrible on a HDTV truly. The Nintendo games for the Wii rock though.

I can't help but find that post ironic

.
But yeah, I own a Wii and 360, I am planning on getting a PS3 (AND NOT FOR BLU-RAY...OK, there's some slight interest) as well as a PSP and the new DSi. I never believed in console wars simply because we are debating over a piece of hardware. You can have favorites, but its stupid to be fanatical about them.
And I'll own the Wii if it proves to be better than the 360 or PS3 version, even if it means lower quality graphics.

Ssh, there's secretly this thing called the WAD manager that lets you install free VC/WiiWare games
Anyway.
I have all 3 "big" consoles, the Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3. I like the Wii and Xbox 360 about the same - each have their benefits, the Wii and its motion-sensing games, and the Xbox and the "hardcore" intense graphics games.
Then the PS3, I think, just fails as a gaming console. We got it as a Blu-Ray player, and I pretty much use it only for that. (LittleBigPlanet is the only PS3 game I actually like, that isn't also for Xbox 360)
It's true that a lot of the Wii games are more kid-friendly, but there are plenty of good titles. Super Smash Bros. Brawl is a crowd-pleaser, I've taken my Wii to school before (don't ask about it, please, LOL) and kids have always lined up to play each other.
And, honestly, I think people who only buy discs for the Wii aren't using its full potential. I'm not talking WiiWare per se, but more like the homebrew potential it has. Yes, that's considered "hacking", but it's perfectly legal (except the WAD manager stuff I mentioned), and there are some really good homebrew games. Including a port of Doom. (You heard right, play Doom using the Wii Zapper! Yay!) Plus, who doesn't like using the Wii Remote as a level?

I still enjoy my Wii for the motion controls. Especially the Potter ones. I also use the Wii Sports and Fit, as well as Prince Caspian, Ratatouille, Cars, and a few others. If the game's controls aren't so good, I will get the PS3 version. I usually choose the ones with a good control scheme, so it's not that bad.
My PS3 goes to games that are often better than their Wii counterparts, or aren't available on the Wii. Many good titles are shared with the 360, but that doesn't mean they're any worse on the PS3.
Yes, we all talk hardware. In the gaming world, PS3 and 360 are equal to my eye. The technical stuff leans to the former.

Well, I had an Xbox 360 before I got a PS3.
The PS3 costs more, so for the 95% of games that both systems have in common, why not get an Xbox 360? The Xbox actually has HDMI now and looks just as good as the PS3.
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with playing those games on the PS3, just that overall it fails as a gaming console - the Wii and Xbox 360 both have a large selection of exclusive games, the PS3 just has crap games in that category. (Except one or two)

Flower's a very interesting game. Little Big Planet also looks okay, but not my cup of tea. All in all, I agree with you. Gaming-wise, they have similar capabilities, and a console-war is just redundant at this time.
