Yeah, those screencaps really do look great. You can really notice the transition with time.

I have tracked down some other older releases of other Disney films to make comparisons as well, and I'll be posting them within the next few weeks. It's interesting to see how the look of these films has changed from video release to video release. I'm making comparisons of the following:
CINDERELLA (1989 LD/1995 LD/2005 DVD)
LADY AND THE TRAMP (1988 LD/1998 LD/2006 DVD)
SLEEPING BEAUTY (1987 LD/1997 LD/2003 DVD)
THE JUNGLE BOOK (1992 LD/1997 LD [also used for 1999 DVD])
BAMBI (1990 LD/1997 LD/2005 DVD)
THE LITTLE MERMAID (1990 LD/1998 LD [also used for 1999 DVD]/2006 DVD)
PINOCCHIO (1986 LD/1992 LD [used for 1999 DVD]/2003 UK DVD]

We saw disc art from all of the latest releases. Disc art doesn't come from Disney though, it usually comes from
lighthousemike or some other nice UD forum goer who recieves a DVD copy in advance and is nice enough to scan their discs and booklets and let the rest of us in on all the early excitement!

The screenshots were very interesting! Although probably in vain, I am still crossing my fingers that they restore the rich colors from the first release.
I can't wait to see the screenshots you are working on!

Anyone know if the Disney Store is having any specials when you pre-order? Are they doing lithographs for it? The closest Disney Store is 20 or so minutes away, so I don't get out there much. I notice that disneyshopping.com doesn't seem to have any pre-order specials so I'm not expecting much from the B&M stores...

Oh no, I believe you're correct. We used to get advanced looks at the disc art, like for
Sleeping Beauty and
Cinderella. In fact, I remember the day I saw the two
Cinderella discs shown on the front page, and they were the first time we saw discs with only a character or two and the rest was pretty much blank. People didn't like them. Anyway, I believe we got them directly from Disney.
But now, you're right, we haven't gotten looks at the disc art way in advance, because now we get our looks at the disc art from
lighthousemike if he gets an advance copy about a week or so before the release date. But that's only if he can and wants to get the movie. He's a really great guy for doing it all for us. I know I wouldn't want to risk scanning my own disc out of fear of damaging it! So he's the best.

Amazing how cold and boring the colors look in the SE release.. Nothing I didn't know before, but these screenshots really show it. Especially skintones are very often off on the SE dvd, sometimes even being white or grey...

I'm sure most of the retailers will have gifts with purchase for the first day, or while supplies last. I got my copy of Little Mermaid at Best Buy and they had plushes of Sebastian and Flounder, but I don't really think Peter Pan plushes would work that well. My guess is that Best Buy will carry a lithograph. The different retailers might have different gifts with purchase, but most will probably have something.

That's so funny!
But, it's not just Michael---it's all of the kids..
Interesting, I'm curious if the other movies have similar cover art as well

Does anyone know if you can just buy the DVD on release day and still get the lithos, or do you have to pre-order to get them? I ask 'cause I don't really want to go all the way out there just to pre-order them and then again a week or so later to pick up the DVD.

Disney reuses the cover clip art surprisingly frequently. "Cinderella" has much of the same as the Masterpiece Edition VHS cover, ditto for "Bambi".

Sorry but in order to get the lithographs you have to pre-order them

I have not pre-ordered online before, my only preordering experience has come from Best Buy. Usually they run a promo where you save $5 on any Disney movie (14.99 or more) when you preorder whatever Disney movie is set to be released. At Best Buy you DO NOT have to preorder to get the gift with purchase, you just have to get there early. Each store only has a set amount, and once those are gone, they are GONE! I preordered The Little Mermaid from Best Buy and arrived early and got my hands on both of the plushes (because I purchased 2 copies), however, I have opted to NOT preorder Peter Pan just yet because a) there aren't any Disney movies I want to purchase right now and get $5 off on, and b) I would like to wait and see what all the retailers have to offer before I commit to purchasing with one retailer.
