Thanks for the compliments on the Pongo & Perdita disc. It was one of those that writing about it was far more fun than watching it. Thanks also for the general compliments, Pasta, and your efforts towards reading the reviews and posting feedback. People posting any sort of feedback that engages with the reviews goes a long way in compensating for all that goes into them.
Speaking of which, I have plenty of feedback to be posting myself. I've enjoyed reading all of the recent reviews. The Timeless Tales vol. 3 reminds me of some classic Disney shorts that I need to either see for the first time or revisit for the first time in a long time. I especially like the picture with the plush dolls (even if it does look like the totally cool Edna doll is eating poor Snoopy's ear). I always go back and forth on whether I should start collecting Disney plushes... I especially want the Muppets ones at Disney World... and that picture went a long way in convincing me to take up another hobby that I can't afford.
I was a fan of The Very Hungry Caterpillar earlier in life. I had no idea until recently that it even had a video adaptation, so the backstory of that project was nice to read. Of course it isn't something that I'm going to watch for myself anytime, it is nice to see that something that is so nice for its appropriate age group was able to translate over to video. As for the other stories, I don't so much remember those. I, too, was left wishing that I had thought these books up at the end of the review.
I liked that your Good Morning, Vietnam review addresses the non-Robin Williams fan directly on several occasions, Luke, as I more or less put myself in that group. Still, this movie has interested me and I'm happy to see that you think that it can entertain at least once, even if his spastic quipping mode is what irritates me the most (and it is). And now it has a pretty good DVD treatment to make the investigation worth it. A very well-researched and thoughtfully-analyzed review.
Some of the SAS:TJB songs are a little less recognizable than the A-string, but it sounds like it resides in the upper crust of the SAS series. Surely the song is actually titled with "
Bear." If it's not, you're ever so right about a missed opportunity there. Is it just me or do SAS reviews lend themselves to some of the better captions? Well, SAS reviews and Princess reviews by Renata.
Who knew Bill Murray and Benji's lives have run on such an eery parallel? Honestly, this movie sounds more or less like my worst nightmare. (Live-action, non-speaking dog wandering through nature? No thanks). I'd heard of the title, but knew nothing about it, or even that it belonged to Disney, until this. As you say, a predilection towards dogs may help, and I simply have no such predilection (good word, btw).
Good job on the Funny Factory w/ Mickey disc, too. Those are kind of fun, aren't they? (The DVDs, I mean, not the reviews

). It made me want to get back in touch with my Mickey Treasures sets. The pete caption was hilarious.
Bill Cosby is all I really need to know to be interested in The Devil & Max Devlin... throw in Elliot Gould and you just sweeten the deal. This very informative review has me very interested in this movie, and not just because of its cast. It sounds odd but in a mostly good way, and a little edgy, what with all the damnation.
My Dog, The Thief sounds like a fairly good one. I enjoyed the comparison of it to studio patterns at the time. It's a shame it didn't fair better on DVD, but I guess that wasn't to be expected, either.
I like Jodie Foster. "Okay" is about what I would call Panic Room too, but I'm glad to have seen it and I look forward to seeing Flightplan too, which sounds pretty exciting for at least a single viewing. I wasn't too anxious for bonus features (though some of them and the menus sound pretty cool) on this one, but I'm glad to see the audio/video presentation is so good.
And finally, the one I've been most excited for: Once Upon a Mattress. The fact that it's so suggestive is a little surprising. I've been interested in this ever since UD posted the announcement and it sounds like it's definitely worth looking into, especially since many of your reservations were ones that you didn't seem to think would annoy fans of song & dance musicals as much. I'm so glad you illustrated the whole history of the play (how cool that Carol is still in it, but in a different role... and that's gotta be intimidating for Ullman). That was very informative, as I'd been curious about all of that. The tone of subject of this sound very interesting... the execution has me a little worried, as does your description of the music, but I'm still anxious to see it. The amount of bonus features for something like this is surprising too.
Thanks for so many great reviews recently!
