How can you tell it's fake if you don't mind me asking?

Sorry to say, but it looks fake to me :( . The fact that it can play on all regions as you stated means its fake, and the cover isn't that of the authentic region 1 release (it could be an import, but i'm not good at recognising them) Also, there should be a hologram, its the first thing I check for on ebay.

EDIT: Just read Robin Hood's reply, yeah, the 'Platinum' title nails the coffin shut.

I read a thread on here which states North America and Canada Disney DVDs don't come with a hologram.

The Little Mermaid: Platinum Edition, as already stated, does not get released until October of 2006. That automatically rules this as a fake, since it says it is a "Platinum Edition."

Well if someone from region 1 states that they don't come with holograms, then I apologise, but still it is a 100% fake. The link below is the official cover for The Little Mermaid;

Also, if you want to learn more about checking whether a DVD is real or not, check this thread its quite useful;

Hope that clears things up.[/url]

I don't sell on ebay so I wouldn't know, but can you not cancel the auction at all? :?

No, thank you! I wanted to view the thread so I can avoid bootlegs, too! Much appreciated. :D

You're very welcome, glad I could help.

Infact, because bootlegs are such a big problem there are loads of threads on UD tacking the problem, ona search for 'bootlegs' it came up with 198 threads, so if you're looking for a particular DVD. i.e. sleeping beauty, there will probably be a thread specialising in Sleeping Beauty bootlegs. :)

This is the link to all threads mentioning bootlegs;

I thought this deserved a bump, as it is a good read and people new in the game should definitely give it a once over.

I'm watching Law and Order: SVU right now and they mentioned that bootleggers sell The Lion King because it is more profitable than drugs. The bootleggers: al Qaeda! The moral of the story- if you buy bootlegs, you support terrorists. Let this be a lesson to you all!

(This is presented half sarcastically, half seriously.)

Hi,
You can cancel by ending auction early.
If you don't know how to do that, go to the help section
and put in "end auction early" it will guide you through
the steps. Pretty simple..Hope this helps..

The Little Mermaid Platnium Edition doesn't come out until October 2006. Take a look at it this way, if you have to ask us here if a DVD is real or fake, it's most likely fake.

Sorry for bumping this topic. I am experience the same dilemma as bigfrank. I too recently brought Snow White on eBay and I was wondering if my copy of Snow White is a bootleg. The picture Ruben posted of the Snow White DVD in the decrypter looks nothing like what I have. I was wondering if anyone has an authentic copy of Snow White DVD to tell me if their DVD looks something similar to mine.

Here are the things I notice unusual from the DVD.

• The DVD cover and the chapter insert have a heavier, glossy material rather than a light and not glossy material.
• The platinum edition banner is shiny and holographic unlike the other platinum edition DVDs. (it looks like the type of shininess found on the slipcases of the other platinum edition DVDs.)
• The disks are mostly smooth but a tiny bit roughness.
• Both disks are gold color.
• The DVD did not come with a security device inside it. (unsure that it suppose to come with it?)

Here are the things that it did have.

• The DVD was in shrink wrap with the security sticker on top.
• The DVD has the BVHE stamp on the back of the shrink wrap.
• The DVD has all the inserts and coupons in it.
• The DVD cover, the disk, and all the inserts have no spelling errors.
• The cover of the DVD edge is circular and not square.
• It did not come in DTS format.
• There were no Chinese subtitles.
• The DVD is encoded in Region 1 only.

By the way, when I was watching the movie there was this sort of blurriness in some scenes especially in the guided tour section of the DVD where Roy Disney is talking to the magic mirror. Also, there is some sort of pixilation when the main menu pops up with the purple sprinkle dust. I’m not to sure if this blurriness suppose to be there. Anyway, I hope someone can confirm that my Snow White DVD isn’t a bootleg. If anyone needs a picture of the DVD I’ll be glad to post it.

Dilemma about the 3 (soon to be 4) bootleg Disney DVD's.

Ok, so as a lot of you know, I just tried to get some used Disney DVD's from Amazon.com used section. 3 of the 4 (I haven't received the 4th yet) were bootlegs.
Now I have a dilemma... I have contacted the 3 sellers. One has already refunded the money and shipping and is going to be sending me a pre-paid envelope to return the DVD. The other two have agreed to refund once they get the DVD back.
Here's the dilemma. Since these are bootleg copies, and are probably illegal (are they actually illegal? Aren't they actually considered stolen copyrighted material?), by sending them back through the mail, I would be commiting a crime, correct? The distribution of illegal materials. Also, they might just wrap them back up and sell them again to someone else, in which case I would then be an accessory (if it is indeed illegal to sell them.)
So, the question if any of you might know.

Is it actually a crime to sell bootleg copies of Disney DVD's? Would I be putting myself in jeopardy by returning them through the US mail?
