:headshake: I hate it when they mix Pixar with WDAS. If they had to update the short, why not include a new WDAS property? There are so many to choose from. If they specifically wanted more diversity, they could have gone with TPatF or Moana or Raya or Encanto. Why force a Pixar element into a Disney attraction? This only further solidifies the public's perception that the two studios are one and the same.

That's their point in doing it for sure. I don't like it either, just like I hate Merida being in the princess line or PIXAR worlds in Kingdom Hearts. I'm a fan of Disney, not PIXAR.

Aren’t the Pixar and Disney Animation studios becoming more and more similar regardless? Personally, as long as I enjoy the stories/characters I really don’t care who makes what or if their brandings gets mingled.

I think that has been the case since 2012. Many people confuse some Disney movies as Pixar (like Wreck-It Ralph and Zootopia) and some Pixar films as Disney (like Brave and Coco).
Truthfully, when Disney became more director driven it didn't really matter. Enrico Casarosa could have been hired by WDAS and made Luca there while Carlos López Estrada could have been hired by Pixar, so really what makes Pixar Pixar and Disney Disney? If it used to be different mediums that's no longer the case, if it's the Once Upon a Time vs Wouldn't it be Cool if approches - that's also seem like something the studios don't really go by anymore. All I can say is that most Pixar films have a male protagonist while most Disney films have a female protagonist, but that's really it and it's flimsy at best since Inside Out and Brave and soon Turning Red are still Pixar films while Ralph and Big Hero 6 are still Disney.

While I understand that for many the line between WDAS and Pixar is blurring, I still feel like the output of both studios is somewhat distinct. Perhaps I can recognise it because I love animation, and the general public won't really discriminate? I don't know.

In any case, like Elladorine, I prefer to judge the movies on their own merits first and forget about any supposed similarities to the output of the other studio.

One more thing. All the movies at the WDAS and Pixar have, since 2006 been overseen by a single CCO - John Lasseter. That doesn't help.

At WDAS we are still getting new movies greenlit under his watch. I think it is possible that we will start seeing the studios diverge stylistically after the release of WDAS' 2022 film.

Were Soul and Luca greenlit by Lasseter, or was Luca (at least) greenlit under Docter?

I don't see why it matters what project was greenlit by Lasseter, now Lee and Docter are in charge and they are the ones making the shots and how each movie will progress from now on and how it will turn out by the end, or are we supposed to believe that Frozen II is not really a Jen Lee product because it was greenlit by Lasseter?! Because Into the Unknown made me believe otherwise...

And do you consider this a positive thing?

Soul, Luca, Turning Red, and Lightyear were all greenlit by Lasseter.

Not really. Never cared for Ralph or Big Hero 6, but truthfully I don't think they'd fit with other Disney characters despite being from WDAS, but aren't the parks already have Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars combined in them? The sad truth is that Disney is no longer "Just Disney".

Oh, yeah, Disney has definitely suffered from the PIXAR infestation of WDAS the past decade. WIR, BH6, and Zootopia are the absolute worst examples of it--although I think Ralph and Judy at least have the Disney "I Want (Something Everyone Else Thinks Is Impossible)" outsider stories driving them (although I still don't think they fit alongside other Disney characters from the past). It's one of the main reasons I've celebrated Lasseter leaving, because he oversaw both studios. And, lbr, he micromanaged to the point every movie was more his than the directors' attached.

No, I don't like that there are nothing but 3D buddy roadtrip films (PIXAR's bread and butter, bleh) at WDAS now. Or that they don't even make adaptations of literature, legends, myths, etc. any more. I'm hopeful new leadership at WDAS--separate from the leadership of PIXAR--will slowly move away from those things as time passes. I think there are some people who resign themselves to things being a certain way while there are others who will never stop resisting against things they don't like, no matter how much time may pass. I never stop b*tching about something I don't like, I don't care how hopeless it may seem to others of ever changing. I try never to give up hope. Lasseter's ouster alone really shows how fast things can change and how unexpectedly.

More info about the Coco sequence in the updated Mickey's PhilharMagic. This isn't the first time WDAS and Pixar characters share the screen. Did Disney already forget about Ralph Breaks the Internet?
Fans of all things jubilant, listen up: Mickey’s PhilharMagic will soon have a tuneful new addition! Beginning on July 17, a brand-new animated scene—anchored by the song “Un Poco Loco” from Disney and Pixar’s 2017 hit Coco—will debut inside the attraction at Disney California Adventure Park and Disneyland Paris, before being added to Magic Kingdom Park later this year as part of the Walt Disney World Resort 50th anniversary celebration.

The Academy Award-winning feature's fun, upbeat music and characters combined with the humor of Donald Duck marks the first time Disney and Pixar animators have worked on a creative venture where characters from both animation studios will be seen together onscreen. Pretty cool, right? In addition, one of the film’s original composers, Germaine Franco, has produced a brand-new Coco score unique to Mickey’s PhilharMagic.

What would you even classify as a buddy roadtrip?

That seems so wide that most movies can fit inside it.

I don't think it describes most films prior to Lasseter coming to WDAS, so I don't think so. Admittedly, the 2000's were in that area because they were pretty much imitating both Dreamworks and PIXAR in turn.
