Tell me if I'm wrong but didn't we already know that the theatrical release was not happening, so why is everyone even more upset?

Because...

While The Little Mermaid is getting a 3D release, Disney is cheating us by not making the 3D release a theatrical one! That's why, dammit! And by the time another theatrical rerelease for The Little Mermaid happens, I'm probably going to be old and gray, probably as old as my own grandparents!

Could we expect a truly making of in the BR?

I mean, we all know that TLM is the one that re-started it all... but come on. We´re talking about a movie that takes place under the sea in 1989. It HAD to to be a challenge to animate the bubbles, the movements, Ursula´s tentacles under the sea...

I want to know it all.

You might have a long wait in front of you, as Disney just plain can't be bothered with home releases anymore; they have steadily become lighter and lighter. I expect Mermaid to be no exception.

If we are lucky, the 'making of' found on the Platinum might be recycled here.

That´s a shame.

Since, yes... Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin (being my favorite) and The Lion King are all masterpieces; however, it was TLM that re-started it all and to have made an incredible movie that takes place under the sea in 1989 HAD TO BE SOMETHING.

Can you imagine how wonderful it must have been to work having aquariums all around you?

and if they did, people would feel cheated anyway and some would say the conversion's not that good.

steadily? It happened almost overnight between BatB and Bambi.

Honestly, I'm sick and freaking tired of Disney doing this, getting our hopes higher than the Empire State Building and then shooting them down out of the sky.

Disney didn't even plan a theatrical release for The Lion King. If El Capitan theatre does well enough we might still get it. Heck, Beauty and the Beast was cancelled several times before finally getting a late release.

Yes. Lion King, Beauty and the Beast and Finding Nemo. But out of those three, BatB was the only one I didn't exactly have the pleasure of seeing in theaters back in 1991 (was 2 and too young to remember) or in 2002 when it came to IMAX. Lion King and Nemo, I saw in their initial runs as well.

Really? I beg to differ....each release has gotten worse then the last. Heck, most people are keeping hold of their Platinum Editions due to the inferiority of the Diamonds.

The most visible dip still occurred after "Beauty and the Beast" when they went from two discs to one. "Snow White" and "Beauty and the Beast" are pretty equal in terms of content, and starting with "Bambi" they became predominantly existing Platinum features with a handful of new material. If something like "Peter Pan" feels more lightweight it's primarily because the initial Platinum DVD release was also. So to address your earlier comment also, "The Little Mermaid" will surely have the PE's documentary, given how established the Diamond Edition format is now.

And frankly everyone should've been hanging on to their Platinum copies from the start. Even "Snow White" excluded things that I would've thought were givens.

Well to me, even having to keep hold of DVD editions when upgrading to Blu is ridiculous; Blu can hold so much more, but Disney gives less and less.

The Only Platinum I ditched was Bambi. I wish I would have kept it but there wasn't that much missing. The others however I have kept a hold on

The Disney Fan Page on Facebook just posted a picture of the "Kiss the Girl" scene of TLM, and it seems to me that they are using an image of the new restoration, because the colors look very different (in a good way...at least for me) and the image looks just beautiful, very clean and without any grain.
