EDIT: I just read rodrigo_ca's comment about the dress being (VERY) blue in the movie. I guess the picture just makes it appear purple-ish..?
Yeah, it's the picture. I have some more accurate, but I need to delete me from them first.

The costumes look like I kind-off expected, hopefully there will be more unseen details on the shoulder pads/neckline.
@supertalies: Had the same reaction as you first

after hearing things like: the ball-gown will blow you away, I too was expecting something out of this world….But this dress does look like the cinderella we all love….

Glad to see I was not the only one who was a little underwhelmed by the ball gown at first.

It has grown on me, though, and I'd love to have a better look at the dress. (
rodrigo_ca...?

)
Also, I found this picture on Tumblr and it looks like there will be more than enough details on the costumes. Since I love details, this makes pretty happy. That's also why I liked a lot of the costumes in
Mirror Mirror.

There you go
Some bad photoshoping on her arm to take some hand off.
In the clips it seemed even more blue, but that could be because the projection was kinda too dark.

Jesus, her hand looks so weird! But thanks for posting this! I'm very happy with her dress!

After so much waiting, I finally see the Prince and Cinderella in their ball costumes...and like many here, at first I was dissappointed.
We were told 2 things: That the gown was inspired from (and thus look similar to) the gown from the 1950 animated film. And before that, that this film would be so opulent and extravagant. The glass slipper we saw followed that last stipulation to the max.
But this ball dress doesn't seem to follow either. The width of the skirt, the many pleats, and the poofy sleeves are close, but not quite enough. Her skirt begs more to be on it, like I and I think many others here imagined! Something like the original's bustle should be on it!
But...I have to admit, it is actually gorgeous, and I have grown to love it, and I especially love the purplish blue color! Bluish purple is actually my favorite color! So, in the end...while maybe not perfect...it does fit this re-imagining, and you know what now? I love it! Look at those butterflies! Perfect to match her shoes! And her hair! I thought it would be just completely down, but some of it is up, above her head, and done very beautifully! So I love that now too!
Rodigro_ca, I am so thankful to you for giving us these images! Oh, but you didn't have to Photoshop a hand out, by the way. It's not a person's face! Any way to show us the original picture? Is that why
Old Fish Tale said her hand was weird? And any way to get that white dot at the bottom out, or is that in the original photo?
Old Fish Tale wrote:WonderNeverOz wrote:her dress looks purple-ish....

What's wrong with that?
Yea, what is wrong with that? If you want it closer to the film, which I do, too, there are way more things different than the color. The original's actually kind of purplish bluish silver from the scene where she transforms up until she arrives at the ball.
Old Fish Tale wrote:supertalies wrote:Is this her ball gown? I mean, it's a really pretty dress (and I don't mind if it's not blue), but I was expecting something.. really unique and special for her ball gown.
Like what? What did you have in mind?
I had in mind pretty much the original film's dress but with more details on it like spirally gold or silver designs and jewels on it.
Old Fish Tale wrote:How narrowing it would have been if the insanely talented Sandy Powell had to replicate the dress from the 1950 film...
When making a live-action version of an animated film, using the same names and plot points, the designs should look fairly close to the originals. Sandy Powell's work could still be seen even if the costumes were a little closer to the originals.

I used photoshop to delete my sister's hand next from Cinderella's shoulder (but I took it from another photo from the thingy, I just can't match the colors perfectly) and painted it around so she wouldn't be visible at all. Just to make the picture more... complete. And I so didn't see that dot. I must have pressed the erase button, but I will correct it tomorrow. And Cinderella's hand was like that in the original photo, I didn't touch it

Thanks for posting,
rodrigo_ca! I agree with
Duster that you didn't have to put all that effort into erasing a hand, but thanks anyway!
I really like the butterflies on Cinderella's dress. It matches the butterfly on her glass slippers and adds a little more colour to the dress. I wonder if butterflies will be a theme in the movie? Maybe they'll represent Ella's desire to be free.
Disney Duster, I was actually kind of looking forward to hearing your thoughts, since you're probably one of the biggest Cinderella fans on this site.

Glad to hear you like the costumes!
I actually removed the white dot at the bottom of the picture myself. I hope you don't mind,
rodrigo_ca.

I like the sparkles in her hair ! Much like Gemma Craven had the bubbles / sparkles on her hair when she went to the ball too.
Seeing it up close, I'm still not sure what I think of the dress… maybe I'll grow to like it
I too was immensely looking forward to what Duster had to say about it !

I understand, but we know the chateau and the stepmother will look different. And if I'm not wrong, the girl who attended the screening said there will be some deviations in the third act. Don't expect a copy of the 1950 film. You'll probably be disappointed if you do.

Thanks to everyone who looked forward to hear my thoughts! I probably am the biggest fan of the film here.

Yes, your're right. I just had heard that Cinderella's gown would look close to the original and got my hopes up. And I think that Cinderella's ball gown is so important, and iconic, that should be closer to the original than the other things.
Here is my crappy little computer painting of how I think the dress could be a little closer to the original, and, to me, better, by just adding a detail to the skirt:
EDIT: I didn't like this idea.
I forgot! Someone who saw the D23 footage said in the concept art Cinderella's dress was "very ornate", so the dress not being so is even more of an outrage! I will draw a picture of the more magnificent one I expected soon.

For me too the biggest problem with the dress is it not being ornate or detailed. After seeing Anna Kendricks dress, I think Lilly's looks a bit cheap

I mean the fabric of those sleeves (it's organza) is available for a few bucks here in Carnaval stores

It would have been perfect if the body had some lace details on it, and the neck/shoulderline was made of flowers/butterflies, but all in a blue colour. Wish the dress would have looked a bit more like one out of the dresses from la Belle et la Bête(2014).
Edit: made a quick sketch of how The dress would have looked better imo

Apart from The Inside Out and Into the Woods, this is the Disney project I'm most looking forward to. The score is beautiful, it appears to have a classically magical story and it's directed by Kenneth Branagh. Marvellous.

Not cheap to me, but I think Anna's dress is better.

You did a pretty nice design, but I don't like it as much as mine, or even the original, strangely. Sorry. It's ok if you don't like mine either. I just want honestly.
Great, I'm so glad
Dr Frankenollie!
Here's my better picture of my addition to the dress.
EDIT: I didn't like this idea either.

Not going to lie, but when I first saw the dress, I was like "that's it?" Now, the more I see it, the more I like it. In the 1950 film, the fairy godmother made Cinderella a simple but daring dress. This dress is simply elegant, and the butterflies are daring. I love the fact her hair is down and glittery. Honestly, Anna's gold dress in ITW looks cheaper than this one to me (even though I still find it beautiful).
I'm looking forward to see the dress Ella wears before her step-family tears it up. In the original film, I always liked that dress and her look more than what she eventually wore to the ball.

I hope it's more blue and better-looking on screen. I'm not saying it's a bad dress, I was just expecting more, personally. I like Anna Kendrick's dress a lot because the gold reflection is so shiny and It's just the way I imagine the grimm's cinderella dress would look like.

Hm, you'e right tsom, this new 2015 dress is simple, but daring, just like the movie! And her hair if half up above her head in three braids like the original's three buns. But I think I like Anna Kendricks' ball dress more because it has more parts to it. It has silver material hanging on the sides. In a way I love this Disney Cinderella dress more, because it's based on my favorite movie, but I like the Into the Woods one more.
And I wish you liked the musical Into the Woods more than you do. I love it so much.

Haha. I mean I didn't hate it, but I wasn't impressed either. You know how people over-hype something and you finally see it and you realize it did not live up to the hype? That's how I felt about ITW. For instance, people have hyped the movie "Bridesmaids" for years and I finally saw it a couple of months ago, and I was not impressed. I laughed maybe three times. I was just expecting more from ITW. I felt that there was way too much going on, both in the plot and song-wise. Also, I felt the writer of ITW just deviated so much from the fairy tales in the second act just to make them different and to teach a lesson. There was no reason why
all those characters should've died, but I digress. I loved the trailer though and I'm excited to see the movie! It looks good!

The death is for how more happens than just happy endings. And that people don't really leave you and you're not alone despite death.

Cinderella is officially rated PG for "mild thematic elements."
Wow, I didn't think we would be getting an MPAA rating this early or that the movie was already finished. In my experience, though, when a PG movie just has "mild thematic elements" as its rating explanation, that tends to mean it's an otherwise appropriate movie for everyone, but the studio wanted a PG because a G tends to be considered too "kiddie" for the teen crowd.
